“SYLVIA” STARTS THIS WEEKEND AT THEATRE 29! “Sylvia” is a play about Greg and Kate who move to

Manhattan after 22 years of childrearing in the suburbs. Greg’s career as a financial trader is winding down, while

Kate’s career as a public school English teacher is beginning to offer her more opportunities. Greg brings home a dog he found – or that has found him – bearing only the name

“Sylvia” on her tag. A street-smart mixture of Labradoodle, Sylvia causes stress between the couple. She offers Greg an escape from the frustrations of his job and the unknowns of

middle age. “Sylvia” will run over three weekends, January 13-29. Friday, Saturday,

& Sunday performances are at 1900 with three Sunday matinee performances at 1430. Tickets are available at www.theatre29.org. Because of strong language, “Sylvia” is not

recommended for children under 13.

MCAGCC TAX CENTER OPENS SOON! The MCAGCC Twentynine Palms Tax Center opens on January

23rd & looks forward to serving Service members, retirees, and their families with FREE tax preparation. The tax preparers

were taught by the IRS, the California Franchise Tax Board, and the OIC to spot tax issues unique to members of the military.

They are equipped to deal with complex tax returns dealing with income from different states, rental properties, and retirement

accounts.

The MCAGCC Twentynine Palms Tax Center is located on Brown Road in between Adobe Road and 1st Street in Building 1525.

COUPLES COMMUNICATION WORKSHOP ON FEBRUARY 8th

All couples are invited to FOCUS’s "Sweet on You" candy communication event which offers not only a free lunch & free candy but also unique ways to connect with your significant other! This event will be held from 1130-1230 in the Training Room at the Village Center (Bldg 1551) on Wednesday, February 8th. Couples do not need to be married to attend, but one partner must be a military member and both partners need to be present. RSVP is required. Please contact Darci Ohigashi-Trapp at 830-3817 to save your spot!

FAMILY READINESS VOLUNTEER TRAINING Want to be more involved with your spouse’s unit?

Become a family readiness volunteer! Volunteers are needed in every unit to assist with making the family

readiness program successful. Volunteer opportunities can include helping with administrative work in the office,

planning & helping out at events, and more. Contact your FRO to find out specifics on what your unit may

need. The next class takes place on Wednesday, January 25th, from 0900-1200. Register for this

class by calling 830-3110.

WINTER DODGEBALL LEAGUE Be sure to get registered for this Winter’s Dodgeball

League! Registration is now open through February 1st. The mandatory coaches meeting is on February 1st at

1500. Active Duty play FREE & everyone else is only $20 for the season. For more info please call

5 LOVE LANGUAGES WORKSHOP ON JAN. 31st How do you best express and receive love? Based upon principles introduced in the book Five Love Languages by Gary Chapman, this FREE class will help you identify your love languages which will help lead you to an even stronger relationship. MCCS Special Events is presenting an all-hands “Murder Mystery Theater” Date Night event on February 10th at

Frontline Restaurant. This roarin’ 20’s themed event will last about two hours & include dinner. There will be a DJ and

dancing following the show. Tickets are $50/couple or $30/individual. What a fun way to get away from the stresses of

everyday life and spend some quality time together! TICKETS GO ON SALE SOON!

COMMUNITY ED CLASSES AT COPPER MOUNTAIN Did you know that CMC offers Community Education classes?

These courses do not require formal enrollment or admittance at Copper Mountain College. It does cost a nominal fee, and several different classes are offered throughout the Spring semester. Community Education classes are designed to be

personal enrichment courses that do not generate any credits with the college. Community Ed classes can be face-to-face on our campus or there are several online offerings through our

partner, Ed 2 Go. View the latest course catalog HERE.

PASSPORT TO VOLUNTEERING FEBRUARY 7th This training provides volunteers the necessary tools to have a successful volunteer career. Volunteers will be exposed to the fulfilling part of volunteering & the necessary skills needed to

ensure their volunteer experience is positive & rewarding. The next Passport to Volunteering class takes place next Tuesday,

February 7th, 0900-1030 in Room 25 of the Village Center, Bldg 1551). Register by calling 830-3110.

JOIN THE “SUPPER CLUB”! The MCCS Community Center is hosting a “Supper Club” where you will prepare 5-6 meals, so you will have ready-to-go meals on hand when your meal

prep time is limited. Once registered, participants will receive a shopping list of items to bring to class. Supper Club meets one Wednesday a month (February 8th & March 8th). Midday & evening sessions are available (1100-1300 or 1700-1900). Be sure to pre-register at the Community Center (Bldg 1004) because space is limited to only 12 spots per session! Cost is $5 for the class instruction. Please note that all participants must be 18 or over. For more information, please call 830-3910.

includes dinner, silent auction & live auction. Cocktail attire is encouraged as this is a fun, elegant night out. Tickets are $25 & can be

HOME DEPOT KIDS WORKSHOP ON FEBRUARY 4th Join in this FREE hands-on workshop where children & parents work on a project the first Saturday of every month! All kids get to keep their craft, receive a FREE certificate of

achievement, Workshop Apron, and a commemorative pin while supplies last. Next class goes on Saturday, February 4th, 0900-1200.

VOLUNTEER YOUR TIME Several on-base agencies are always in need of volunteers to help accomplish their mission. Both American Red Cross & Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society are located within the Village Center (Bldg 1551). Stop by their offices to find out more information. Want to call first? No problem! Their office numbers are listed below. **American Red Cross: 830-6685 **Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society: 830-6233 - They offer mileage & childcare reimbursement as an incentive to

all of their volunteers, so if you’re a parent looking to get out of the house for a while & want to help others aboard the Combat Center this may be a perfect fit for you! The Armed Services YMCA is always on the lookout for volunteers, too! They are located in Bldg 192 (across from the Marine Mart & DiCarlos). They are currently searching for people willing to volunteer at their thrift store—from sorting the donations, helping customers, and assisting with their bag sales there is always A LOT to do & any time you can give is appreciated! BABY BASICS CLASS ON FEBRUARY 2nd Expecting a new baby? Baby Basics is for you! This class helps expecting parents learn how to care for infants, to

include bathing and how to change a diaper. The next class is being held on Thursday,

**OSC SCHOLARSHIPS** ATTENTION ALL MILITARY DEPENDENTS! Graduating senior & spouses pursuing AA, BA/BS or vocational certification are eligible to apply for scholarships for the 2017-2018 academic year. In order to be eligible applicants must be the dependent of an active duty service member station aboard MCAGCC or MWTC Bridgeport –OR— a dependent of a retired or deceased service member & living in the Morongo Basin, Greater Palm Springs area or Bridgeport area who’s last duty station was MCAGCC. Application & info may be found on www.osc29palms.com. Please note that all applications MUST be postmarked by March 15, 2017!

**MOAA SCHOLARSHIPS** MOAA's Educational Assistance Program provides interest free loans and grants to students for up to five years of undergraduate study at an accredited college or university. The program is open to ALL ranks--active duty or retired. Click HERE for more information & the application.

**SCHOLARSHIPS FOR MILITARY CHILDREN PROGRAM ** The Scholarships for Military Children Program is now accepting applications! Scholarship grants (worth $2,000 each) will be awarded for the 2017-2018 school year. At least one scholarship will be awarded at every commissary location where qualified applications are received.

To qualify for consideration, applicants must be a dependent, unmarried child, 23 years old or younger of a service member on active duty, a Reserve or Guard member, retiree or survi-vor of a military member who died while on active duty, or survivor of a retiree. All applicants must be enrolled or plan-ning to enroll in a full-time undergraduate program.

Applications must be hand-delivered or mailed to the commis-sary where the applicant's family normally shops by close of business Friday, Feb. 17, 2017 (individuals may only apply at one commissary). The application form may be found HERE.

BUDGET FOR BABY CLASSES Welcoming a new family member is exciting. This free

workshop helps you make sure you’re financially prepared and know how to budget and spend wisely on baby’s expenses.

Make a “hug” for your Valentine at FOCUS's upcoming "Paper Hugs" workshop taking place on Wednesday,

February 1st, 1430-1600 at the MCCS Community Center (Bldg 1004). Children ages 3 & over are encouraged to
