I was thinking to myself, “What is going on and how can I help? I can’t go to Vegas; I’m not a politician (nor do I want to be). I’m a principal—what can I do?” Out of respect for the young students and not wanting to bring fear into their lives, I don’t mention events like this over the morning prayers; however, we do pray. We pray together every day as a school, and I asked all teachers to take some time this week to pray with the students outside of their normal prayer routines. Prayer is the best thing we can do for one another and those affected by tragedy. It can also help us deal with our own fears, anxiety, and questions. As you know, I play a Christian song to start our morning prayers on Mondays. This week, I chose “In Christ Alone” by Anthem Lights; give it a listen, it has a powerful, timely message. On a lighter note, I hope that you and your children have the opportunity to join us tomorrow for our Marathon at Central Park, and ask that our students wear their navy and white Saint Rose tee shirts to show off their school pride. We’ll be gathering in the Lions’ Shelter Pavilion located near the Victoria Street entrance. Please remember that the Marathon is absolutely vital to our yearly budget, and we ask that you participate to the fullest. The reward for meeting our school goal of $35,000 is an afternoon of an appropriate movie and popcorn for the entire school. The highest earning class will help me pick out the movie. For the last year, I’ve scheduled “Pop with the Principal” on the third Friday of each month at 1:30 pm, during which time, to put it nicely, I’ve typically been a little lonely! :) We’ve decided to try an earlier time, and so I welcome you to join me once a month for PASTRY WITH THE PRINCIPAL! Please join us on Friday, October 13, at 7:45 am. You’ll participate in the morning prayer and then we’ll have approximately 30 minutes to just get to know each other. There is no agenda—just a chance to mingle with other parents and me. Upcoming dates will be announced in The Redhawk and on Facebook. I hope you can make it from time to time! School News

It’s Marathon time TOMORROW!

We’re ready for our Marathon in Central Park tomorrow from 8 AM—1 PM! Meet us at the Lion’s Shelter. Our students are excited and ready to make this the best Marathon we’ve ever had, and need YOUR help to reach our $35,000 goal! The marathon is mandatory for students in Kindergarten through Grade 8. While it’s optional for our Prekindergarten families, we strongly encourage their participation as vital parts of the Saint Rose School community.

The requirement for schools to fundraise is a reality of our times; Saint Rose is greatly in need of your support with this, our primary fundraiser. We ask that you reach out to your friends and family, neighbors, and even employers (corporate matching is a real plus!). We’re in need of assistants to help with money counting at the school on our collection days. Please contact Ann Wurst at [email protected] to help! Thank you in advance for contributing your time and helping to making our 2017 Marathon a tremendous success! MARATHON COLLECTION DATES

Free and Reduced Lunch Program Roseville Area Schools Child Nutrition Program participates in the Federal Free and Reduced Lunch Program. This program serves not only to provide all children in our country a nutritious lunch and/or breakfast, but also is the basis for most federal funding we receive as a school, most importantly our Title One program. The more families who qualify for free and reduced lunch, the more money we receive from the federal government for our educational programs. Even if your child brings a lunch from home, we strongly encourage you to apply if you meet the income guidelines, as our school benefits in many ways from students who qualify for funding. Please complete the application that will be sent home next week as soon as possible. Please note: All families receiving Tuition Assistance from Saint Rose of Lima must apply for Free and reduced Lunch if they meet the income guidelines. Thank you!

Hot Lunch

Saint Rose of Lima School contracts with Roseville Area Schools to provide a K-8 hot lunch program. Monthly menus are sent home in advance and available on the school website, and MAIN or ALTERNATE meals are available each day. The cost for a hot lunch is $2.90. Hot lunch includes milk. Milk can be purchased separately for $0.50 a carton. Additional lunches may be purchased for $4 if student account funds allow (they are billed as non-reimbursable meals); however, students may receive “seconds” of fresh fruit and salad bar items at no extra charge. Checks for hot lunch should be made payable to Roseville Area Schools or RAS. If you have any questions about your child’s lunch account balance, please call our Nutrition Services Manager, Stacey Gaetz, between the hours of 9:00 AM—12:30 PM at 651.357.1232 , or you can email her at [email protected].
