nunter Principal – Mrs Toni Skinner WEEK 8 6 December 2019 Principal’s Report The term has flown by and we are certainly on the count down now. The children are very busy with lots of exciting things still happening. Our movie reward day was yesterday for our Diamond PBL award recipients and I would like to congratulate them all once again for achieving this level. There were over 250 students who went along to this event and I would like to thank our PBL team for organising this excursion and escorting these lucky students on the day. Kindergarten Early Birds 2020 Our newest enrolments for 2020 enjoyed their Kindergarten Orientation over the past 3 weeks. I would like to thank our Kindergarten teachers Mrs Downey and Mrs White for looking after these children making them feel welcome and getting them school ready! Thank you to all of the children who are in KW and KD this year who kindly gave up their classrooms during this program. We look forward to welcoming our Kindergarten group next year into our Kariong family. Canberra Last week Mr Brown, Mr Gilks, Mrs Buckton and myself accompanied our Year 6 students to Canberra for a 3 day excursion. The itinerary was exhausting but lots of fun. We were able to visit Parliament House, Old Parliament House, The Governor General’s quarters, Questacon, Australian Museum and The Institute of Sport just to name a few! Each place was interesting and highlighted what a wonderful place our capital is. Thank you to our Year 6 teachers for giving up their family time to escort the children on this excursion, especially Mr Gilks who put an enormous amount of time into planning and organising this excursion. Thank you to all of the students on being a great fun group to go away with and I would like to acknowledge their wonderful behaviour and manners at these important venues. Parent Helpers Morning Tea Today we were able to say a special thank you to our parents, carers and volunteers for all that they do here at school. I am aware that many of our helpers were not able to attend today’s special morning tea today due to other commitments and I would like to say a big thank you to all of you as well for being there to support our office staff and teaching staff no matter how small or large. Without us all working together our school would not be able to function efficiently. Thank you once again and we look forward to working with you again next year. Wiseberry BBQ Next Monday we have our lucky house winners Grevillea receiving a BBQ lunch put on by the wonderful Wiseberry Real Estate. Thank you to Wiseberry for their continued and generous support to our school. Each term they have provided the winning house with a lovely lunch and on behalf of the school we would like to thank them for their generosity over the year. Year 6 Farewell On Monday December 9 all of Year 6 will be enjoying their farewell at Gosford RSL from 6-9pm. Thank you to the parents for helping out with the organisation for the night in many different ways. I look forward to enjoying this special night with them and farewelling them all as they get ready to embark on their high school adventures! Presentation Days Next week is a busy week for Presentation Assemblies. These will be held over 2 days, Wednesday and Thursday and we look forward to acknowledging the wonderful students in our school for the many different achievements. Staffing 2020 There will be a few changes to our staff in 2020 as we welcome some new members to our team and sadly say goodbye to some wonderful staff. Mr Bennett will be moving to Sydney with his family which means we will unfortunately not have him here with us next year. Mr Bennett has been a wonderful part of our staff this year and he has had a huge impact on the Year 5 students who were lucky enough to have him as their classroom teacher. I would like to personally thank Mr Bennett for the wonderful job he has done here at school this year. He will certainly be missed but we all wish him and his family all the best for the future. I would like to congratulate Miss Kate Farrugia on her permanent appointment to Kariong Public School through merit selection. Kate has been a wonderful part of our school over the past few years and we are pleased to be able to ensure that we now keep her here on our staff in a permanent capacity. Miss Hannah Tunbridge will also be joining us next year. Miss Tunbridge was appointed to our school through the graduate recruitment process and we are excited to welcome her in 2020. Mrs Rosemaree Barnes has decided to retire after a long successful career in teaching. Her position on staff will be filled over the next few months and we would like to wish Mrs Barnes all the best in her retirement years. End of year information The end date of Term 4 for students is Wednesday December 18, the staff will finish the term with professional development on Thursday December 19 and the school will be closed as of Friday December 20. Have a lovely weekend and I look forward to seeing many of you here at our Presentation Days next week. Toni Skinner

LIBRARY NEWS

As the library will be closed for stocktake during Week 9, we request that all library books are returned to the library as soon as possible. Books can be returned to the library at any time and placed in the returns trolley. Performing a stocktake enables us to ascertain which books are held in the library and any books still on loan. After the stocktake is finalised, parent notes will be sent home if there is a book recorded under your child’s name, deemed missing in the stocktake.

PBL Update – Sandpit

This week students are focusing on how to show Respect,

Responsibility and Personal Best when playing in the sandpit. This area is very popular with the older students during free play Friday,

and it’s great to see the teamwork that takes place.

Yesterday we had the privilege to take our Diamond Award Students to the

movies at Erina as part of their reward.

What a wonderful group! Look out for the photos in next week’s newsletter.
