MENTORING OPPORTUNITY EDT The Engineering Development Trust is the largest provider of STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) enrichment activities for the UK youth. Our range of work related learning schemes provide opportunities for 11-21 year olds to enhance their technical, personal and employability skills through industry-led projects, industrial placements and specialised courses. Businesses tend to participate for a number of reasons for example, developing relationships with the local community, recognising their CSR commitment or developing their staff (or apprentices). Go4SET EDT have secured funding to run a Go4SET Hub that in Luton’s schools, to promote the STEM Agenda, during the Summer term. Go4SET is aimed at Year 8/9 students and a team comprises 4-6 students. All teams will chose from a list of projects although the choice might be influenced by the supporting businesses. The Programme commences with a Launch event (being hosted by Luton Town Football Club on 28 th April 2015) and concludes with a Celebration & Assessment Day on 13 th July at BRE (in Bricket Wood). During the intervening 10 weeks the students work on the projects supported by a business Mentor giving an hour a week. Feedback from last year was extremely positive with evidence from students, teachers and mentors that we met the objectives that they set out to achieve. For example, last year, in a sector that struggles to recruit female engineers, the majority of our participants were female. NO CHARGE As a not-for-profit we normally charge to cover our costs. We would normally charge businesses £1000 (+ VAT) per team that they support. However, funding from the Bedfordshire and Luton Community Foundation’s London Luton Airport Ltd Youth Fund covers your participation during this pilot year...making your involvement free.
