History
The UPV is more than 40 years old, but some of its centres are even older: more than 100 years old.
The UPV’s initial germ was the creation of the Instituto Politécnico Superior de Valencia in the 1968-1969 academic year.

Structure
The University comprises three fully equipped campuses:
Vera (in the city of València), Alcoi and Gandia.
In them, a total of 9 schools, 2 faculties and 2 higher polytechnic schools can be found.

Studies
40 degrees and double degrees, almost 80 master's and double
master’s degrees, and almost 30 doctorates, all meeting demanding quality standards, are taught at the UPV.

Regulated professions
Regulated professions are those for the practice of which a particular requirement –
generally, being in possession of a specific academic degree– is mandated by law.
When students obtain such a degree, they become entitled to work in a specific field, performing activities which are exclusive to those professions.
At present, there are two kinds of university degrees which confer such an entitlement:
bachelor’s degrees and master's degrees.

Regulated professions requiring a master’s degree
In the 2014-2015 academic year, those master’s studies that qualify those who complete them (i.e., qualifying master’s studies) for practising the regulated professions of engineering and architecture have begun to be taught at the UPV.
Qualifying master’s degrees have been designed on the basis of a specific degree of reference, and together with it they constitute an integrated study programme.

Doctoral School
The UPV’s Doctoral School is the university structure responsible, from an academic and
administrative point of view, for the UPV’s doctoral studies.
It is therefore responsible for the training of researchers carrying out their research activities with the aim of obtaining a PhD degree.

Languages
Classes are given in Spanish, Valencian and English.
More than 300 subjects are taught in English.
There are also High Academic Performance (ARA) groups, where English is the main language in the classroom.

Languages Centre
At the UPV’s Languages Centre (CDL), language courses can be taken: English, French, German, Italian, Japanese and Chinese.
Official exams can be taken there as well.

Ranking
The UPV is the first Spanish technical university among the best in the world,
according to the Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU), best
known as the Shanghai ranking.

It also ranks in the top one hundred universities under 50 years old, according to
the British magazine Times Higher Education (THE 100 Under 50).

Recognition
The UPV offers four degree programmes accredited by the American agency
ABET (Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology), which recognizes them as equivalent to the master's studies taught in the USA in their respective disciplines.

In addition, the UPV offers two degrees with the EUR-ACE quality seal and four more with the EURO-INF seal.

Excellence
The UPV has been awarded the Campus de Excelencia Internacional seal twice.
Only five universities in Spain have achieved this seal –which is the highest recognition bestowed by the Spanish Ministry of Education– in two occasions.

The UPV Library comprises a central headquarters building and 10 specialized locations
(occupying more than 10,000 m2), with separate areas for study and extensive opening hours, including weekends.

The Polytechnic City of Innovation (CPI) is the heart of the UPV’s RDI.
It comprises 140.000 m2, where 1.600 scientists and 400 supporting people work.
The most advanced institutes and technological centres are located there.

Politech 1. The UPV has worked on the development of a picosatellite for various scientific experiments.
Smart bodysuit against sepsis. The UPV has participated in the development of a bodysuit for the early detection of diseases in newborns.

The UPV offers all its students rooms for the creation of startup companies, located in each of the schools and faculties.
Additionally, there is also a Start UPV Entrepreneur Space, located at the Student Recreation Centre (Casa de l’Alumne).
