Letter From the EditorGrace and peace be unto you UNITED,

Can you believe it? This month we are celebrating the third anniversary of the United Times newsletter. We thank you for three years of support, collaboration and creativity as we endeavor to bring you encouragement and updates about what is going on in the body of UNITED! The best is yet to come!

We ask that you please continue to send your feedback regarding this year’s Holy Convocation to [email protected] so we can make your experience next year even more amazing!

This month we feature a special request bulletin calling for unity in response to the blood of Michael Brown shed on the streets of Ferguson, MO. We cannot stand idly by and allow Michael Brown to be convicted of his own murder. It is time to take action! Read more about this clarion call in this month’s issue as we stand together in solidarity for justice.

Police brutality videos are popping up all over the internet; School is back in session; work, or job searches are in full swing; Christmas decorations are already on the shelf; and bills still need to be paid. With so much on our minds, we must take the time to rest in Christ because as Pastor Howard Hamilton ministers to us this month, we are Left Behind to Have a Peace of Mind. Be encouraged UNITED, and above all, continue to stand.

In His Service, Annette ParkinsEditorwww.unitedcovenantchurches.org

Left Behind To Have A PEACE of MindAre you satisfied with the state of your relationship with God? Are you frustrated because you know there is more to the abundant life He has to offer than you are experiencing? Are you looking for inner peace a mental and emotional calmness that would take away your worries, anxieties and restless thinking? Are you looking for more?

A famous poet by the name of Ralph Waldo Emerson quotes: "For every minute you remain angry, you give up sixty-seconds of PEACE of mind." The definition of a peace of mind is a state of mental and emotional calmness with no worries, fears or stress. In this state, the mind is quiet, and you experience a sense of happiness and freedom.

We never perhaps know the weakness [or strength] of our faith, until we are placed in a fearful circumstance. Possessing the "How To" in the matter, which are instructions and biblical principles as well as revelation, will enable PEACE in handling the problems and cares of LIFE that God may not initially handle for you. Inner peace eventually leads to external peace. By creating peace in your inner world, in your mind, you bring it into your external world, and into other people's lives.

David said in Psalm 51:10 states, "Create in me a clean heart and renew a right spirit within me." This was a prayer for cleansing and clarity within righteous living to have POWER over the FLESH. This was not a prayer of receiving BLESSINGS, but a prayer for BREAKTHROUGH.

When you have a mind, heart and soul-cleansing, it allows for what resides in you spiritually to be in full operation. Not being cleansed can cause internal combustion, back-ups and misfires....ex. (car engine misfiring). Also, you will tend to entertain hazardous conversations, irrelevant

relationships, spiritual equilibrium problems and lack of consistency in following biblical instructions and positive lifestyle habits. Sometimes your emotions and feelings can get the best of you when they navigate you through life. Beloved, understand that you must tell your circumstance that you may be in my LIFE, but you will NOT take over my LIFE! We are not perfect beings, but we must embrace what's called "process of elimination". It won't always happen overnight, but there are ways in showing you "HOW TO" principles for a PEACE of MIND.

1) Minimize the time spent on irrelevant moments. {2 TIMOTHY 3:16-17}2) Stay away from negative conversations and negative people. You don't want their thoughts and words to sink into your subconscious mind and affect your moods and state of mind.{ROMANS 16:17; PROVERBS 14:7-8; I CORINTHIANS 15:33}3) Don't hold grudges. Learn to forget and forgive. Nurturing ill feelings and grievances hurts you and causes lack of sleep. {EPHESIANS 4:31-32}4) Don't be jealous of others. Jealousy and low self-esteem often lead to lack of peace of mind.{PSALM 37:1-2}5) Accept what you can’t change and change what you will NOT accept. {PHILLIPIANS 4:11-12}6) Don't dwell on the past. There is no need to evoke unpleasant memories and immerse yourself in them. {PHILLIPIANS 3:13-14}7) Learn to be more patient and tolerant with family, friends, coworkers, employees, and everyone else. {EPHESIANS 4:1-2}8) Don't take everything personal. A certain degree of emotional and mental detachment is very helpful. {ECCLESIASTES 7:21}9) Learn to focus your mind. When you can focus your mind, you can more easily reject worries and anxieties, refuse to think negative thoughts, and reduce the constant chatter of your mind.{COLOSSIANS 3:1-3}10) Meditation is essential for proper preparation for receiving from God. {JOSHUA 1:8}

On Friday, August 22, the UCCC NYS Youth Division gathered together for a time of worship, intercession and an encounter with God. Youth from various churches and age groups interceded on behalf of youth and young adults across the world. Our Uc3 National Youth President, Min. Ray J. Garcia, ministered a powerful word - "Today, We're Gonna Fight" - instructing us on how we are to discipline our

bodies and strengthen our spirit man.

God moved mightily amongst our youth and we declare that their lives will never be the same.

I shared this article a couple of years ago, but with everything going on in the world around us, it is worth repeating! As our students get back in the routine of going

back to school, it is good for us as Christians to take some of those tips and get ourselves geared up to serving the

Lord.

We need to get back to the school of life for Christ!

Get Enough Sleep. (Rest in the Lord): As parents we all know the benefits of getting our children to bed early on a school night. They need that added rest in order to get up early in the morning. A good night's sleep will work wonders on your attitude the next day and it will help your whole disposition. Resting in the Lord will also make you fit and ready for the day. It will recharge you.

"Rest in the LORD, and wait patiently for him..." Psalm 37:7

Develop Good Work and Study Habits. (Develop Good Bible Study Habits): Children that develop good study habits are the ones who sail through school without major problems. We as Christians need to develop good study habits when it comes to God's Word. Knowing the Word is what is going to make or break us. We've got to know the Word of God in order to live it.

"Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth." 2 Timothy 2:15

Page 27: United Times ~ September 2014

Try Your Best. (Do Your Best for Christ): Teaching our children to do their best will bring results and they can be proud of themselves. It's rewarding to do your best. As Christians we need to strive to do our best in whatever we do. After all we are doing it to honor God.

And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men; Knowing that of the Lord ye shall receive the reward of the inheritance: for ye serve the Lord Christ. Colossians 3:23,24

Get Along With Your Classmates. (Fellowship With Other Christians): When children are taught to get along together at school it causes such a good atmosphere for learning. When we as Christians get along with each other and fellowship with one another, it causes more productive lives, which helps further the cause of Christ.

But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin. 1 John 1:7

Get To Know Your Teacher. (Know Christ More): One of the first things a student needs to learn is what is expected of him from his teacher. How does that teacher deal with homework? With classroom policies? With grades? We need to know what Christ expects of us. Getting to know God will help us serve Him better.

And thou, Solomon my son, know thou the God of thy father, and serve him with a perfect heart and with a willing mind:for the LORD searcheth all hearts, and understandeth all theimaginations of the thoughts: if thou seek him, he will be found of thee; but if thou forsake him, he will cast thee off for ever. 1 Chronicles 28:9Visit http://www.juliabettencourt.com/dev/schooldev.html for the full list and complete article by Julia Bettencourt!
