This guide explores the content and resources of the online digital courseware. It shows how this digital courseware helps students connect, experience, and understand Prentice Hall United States History.

You can find all of the resources you need to assign content or monitor and track student progress online. The content in the program is divided by era (or unit) chapter, and section. Each of these segments is broken down further into teacher resources and student resources.

After logging in to the program, click Pearson Content on the Programs channel. Click the plus signs or folder titles to expand the sections.

The Teacher Orientation documents describe how the content is organized and explain each activity icon.

The Geographic-Information Systems (GIS) Maps and Tours folder has a sample lesson plan and contains subfolders with GIS files for each region of the world. The lesson plan gives suggestions and tips on how to use GIS maps in the classroom and how to create interactive, multimedia tours.

The Online Student Help PDF supports your students as they navigate the United States History digital courseware. This is a helpful resource to point students in the right direction as they proceed through instruction in the program.

The Current Events feature links to CNN Student News. This resource provides a wealth of teacher materials, including a daily news program, discussion questions, and in-depth learning activities.

This folder provides all of the answer keys for materials in the program.

Lesson Plans

AYP Monitoring Assessments provides resources to aid in adequate yearly progress. It provides practice through systematic testing and gives recommendations for remediation. Test Prep with Document-Based Assessment: Skills Practice provides a variety of skills practice materials.

Within this folder, there are thirty-six printable reference PDFs related to the 21st century skills found throughout the program. To access the online lesson that correlates to these PDFs, go to Library and click Twenty-First Century Learning Tutor. These are interactive lessons that reinforce the skills.

The Citizenship Activity Pack: Agents of Change resource contains videos and interactive lessons that teach students citizenship skills, such as how to influence public opinion.

Additional resources online in this section of the program include Accelerating the Progress of English Language Learners. This resource offers current research about best practices and provides teaching strategies for teaching English Language Learners (ELLs). There are also folders that contain Maps, Blank Graphic Organizers, and Rubrics to assess student work. This folder also provides a WebQuest Teacher Guide and an Essential Question Video Teacher Guide.

United States History Lesson Plans allow you to customize online lesson plans for each era or unit, chapter, or section, and then create printable PDFs.

The United States History Interactive Whiteboard Activities contains media-rich activities that allow students to interact with the content in the program.

The American Issues Connectors provides students the opportunity to think critically about enduring issues and Essential Questions found throughout the program.

Activity icons that organize the content by era or unit, and also by chapter, are found underneath American Issues Connectors. Resources for each chapter include eText links to the Online Student Edition.

The Online Student Edition provides immediate links to each unit’s Reflections essay, as well as to the sections in each chapter.

Test Prep with Document-Based Assessment contains practice exercises in PDF or editable format that are multiple-choice, constructed responses, or document-based exercises.

Connect—the first subfolder in the chapter folder—contains material that will help students relate to the concepts that they study.

GIS Maps and GIS Tour links launch interactive maps in Google Earth or in a similar 3-D Earth viewer program. These GIS maps offer a unique introduction to key historical places.

Videos tell the stories of real people from the past and why these stories still matter today.

Hip Hop History provides rap songs that contain interesting facts and reference Key Terms from the chapter. There is also a downloadable PDF copy of the lyrics online.

Lecture Notes are PowerPoint presentations that you can download directly to your computer desktop. These are found in each section subfolder in the chapter, as well as in the Connect and Understand subfolders.

The Teacher Resources subfolder contains various teaching support materials in PDF and editable format. You can also find additional teacher resources each section subfolder.

Image Bank houses maps and charts from the chapter that you can use in the classroom.

Each section in the chapter has its own subfolder found underneath the Connect subfolder. The Experience label helps students identify these sections as the core content in the chapter.

Reading and Note Taking Study Guide contains graphic organizers and summaries in fillable PDF and other editable formats. There are also adapted version for lower-level students.

Self-Tests contains a Know It? Show It! interactive quiz and an online multiple-choice self-test for each section.

Spanish Support provides graphic organizers and summaries in Spanish. There is also a Spanish audio review of the section.

Quick Study Timeline

Understand is the last subfolder in every chapter folder that contains activities and assignments that wrap up and review the chapter’s content.

Quick Study Timelines are interactive timelines that allow students to learn more about an event in history. When students click on a red icon, they are taken to infoplease.com—a comprehensive encyclopedia, almanac, atlas, dictionary, and thesaurus.

Review

Channel Awesome Activities help to review chapter content with students in an engaging and fun game show format.

There are three test folders within Understand: Self-Tests, Chapter Tests, and Assessment Banks. Chapter Tests come in two forms—A and B. The Assessment Banks test items come in both English and Spanish.

The Reference Section includes links to additional resources in the eText—such as an Atlas and an English/Spanish glossary—that students may wish to use when they complete assignments in the program.
