Cheek To Cheek features classic jazz standards sung by Lady Gaga and Tony Bennett in a combination of vocal duets and solo performances. Each song was handpicked by the artists, and the album features classic selections from the Great American Songbook including “Anything Goes,” “It Don’t Mean A Thing (If It Ain’t Got That Swing)," “Sophisticated Lady,” “Lush Life,” and the record’s title track, “Cheek To Cheek.” Recorded in New York City, the record took over a year to complete and features jazz musicians associated with both artists including members of Bennett’s quartet, Mike Renzi, Gray Sargent, Harold Jones and Marshall Wood as well pianist Tom Lanier. Jazz trumpeter Brian Newman, a long‐time friend and colleague of Lady Gaga appears on the album as well with his NYC based jazz quintet. Jazz soloists on selected tracks include tenor saxophonist Joe Lovano and flutist Paul Horn, who passed away earlier this month. Of this new project Lady Gaga commented, “Cheek To Cheek” came out of a very organic friendship and relationship that Tony and I have built over the years and it truly was a collaborative effort. It was important to Tony that this was a jazz record. I’ve been singing jazz since I was a child and really wanted to show the authentic side of the genre. We made an album of jazz classics, but it has a modern twist.” Tony Bennett and Lady Gaga first met backstage in 2011 after the two performed at the Robin Hood Foundation gala in New York City and Bennett asked Lady Gaga to sing a duet with him on his DUETS II album that he was beginning to record.

Crystal Shawanda, born on the Wikwemikong Native Reservation on Canada's Manitoulin Island, grew up immersed in the music of her heritage and dreams. Formed in 1996, Polish Tech Death masters DECAPITATED built a reputation over the years as one of the international leaders of their genre. Continuing with the momentum of celebrating their 25th anniversary, Sweden's extreme metal deviants MESHUGGAH have announced the reissue of their 2004 one‐song EP, "I", via Nuclear Blast. The album artwork and concept are courtesy of MESHUGGAH drummer Tomas Haake, who comments on the EP's mutant resurrection: "This 21‐minute madness that is the song 'I' is something we've always been extremely proud of!!” "This song is really different as it wasn't 'written' in the normal sense, but recorded without anything more than very open guidelines/ideas as to what kind of style we wanted each part to have. For example: The initial one‐and‐a‐half‐minute drum fill is an excerpt of around a 15‐minute recording of me just randomly going off on a kick/tom fill. Once we had chosen which part of it to use, we had to chart out the hits on paper and guitarists Fredrik [Thordendal] and Mårten [Hågström] then basically used sight‐reading/Avista to get the hits right while recording. And this is how we continued through the whole song/process. We often get the question, 'When will you guys play 'I'?' — and though I'm sure it could be done with a lot of listening and hard work, it's really too unstructured a track. It would take up too much time and effort to make sense.” "We're super stoked now to have this be re‐released under the Nuclear Blast flag. Distribution and access to this little demon of a song was never quite what we had wished back when this was released, so we're thrilled to see it be brought back to life!! On April 3, 1975 the Mk III line-up of Purple – guitarist Ritchie Blackmore, frontman David Coverdale, bassist/vocalist Glenn Hughes, keyboard player Jon Lord and drummer Ian Paice – played a concert at the Liebenauer ice rink, located on the outskirts of mountain-cradled Graz, Austria’s second largest city after Vienna. Enthused by Purple’s arrival in town, the local press dubbed the concert ‘das Rockereignis des Jahres [the rock event of the year]’. And it was – in more ways than one. After Graz, Purple would play just two more shows – in Saarbrücken, Germany and Paris, France – before Blackmore left to form his new band, Rainbow. The remaining Purple members would regroup quickly with American guitarist Tommy Bolin in tow, in place of Blackmore. But that’s another story... In order to preserve Blackmore’s final run of Mk III concerts for posterity, Purple’s managers had brought the Rolling Stones mobile recording studio over to mainland Europe

When the last notes rang out in the Dublin o2 on Saturday, April 12, 2014, the 9000 fans packing the venue knew that they were witnessing the end of something special. The reunion that nobody thought would ever be possible had happened, but now the itch was scratched and that particular book was closed. When the original line-up of Status Quo reunited for a 9-date UK tour in March 2013 the outpouring of approval and raw emotion from the fans was incredible. Public demand made the final tour of 2014 mandatory and it was just as emotional. Rossi, Parfitt, Lancaster and Coghlan received a rapturous response; the band clicked straight back into their groove, the chemistry obvious, the music stunning and the volume almost overpowering. It all led to Dublin; the final show of the final tour. Ever. The Frantic Four tours were highlights in a career that has seen Quo achieve more than anyone dreamed possible. Those chosen ones who recognise Electric Wizard as the heaviest, most evil, most decimating, most exciting, most bad-ass heavy rock band of all time, and those unfortunate souls who are yet to receive enlightenment. Or enheavyment, as it should rightfully be called… But fear ye not: those who are lost will soon be saved, those who are blind will soon have their third eye pried wide open, because The Wizard have returned with ‘Time to Die’, their first new album since 2010. This astounding eighth long player is scheduled for release on September 29th via Spinefarm Records, and it fizzes and crackles with the malevolent energy of a giant black sun blotting out the sky; this is their heaviest album since magnum opus ‘Dope Throne’ (2000), their most evil since fan favourite ‘Come My Fanatics’ (1997), and the most acidic and psychedelic of their career to date. The longstanding colossal yin & yang twin guitar assault of Jus Oborn and Liz Buckingham has been augmented by the temporary return of an old face from the distant past: the original Leccy Wizard drummer, Mark Greening. Speaking about bringing Mark back to play on the album, Oborn says: “Our relationship is still volatile and can blow up at any time, so the recording process has been about tapping that negative energy and making something primitive out of it.” From the second you dive into ‘Time to Die’, it’s clear that this line-up has found some kind of alchemist’s sweet spot, enabling the musicians to combine all of the things the band has done so well in the past into one devastating whole. Instead of going for monolithic riffs built up out of multiple layers of crushing musical weight, this is an album of four lead instrumentalists battling it out and complementing one another by turns. The effect is more focused, acidic and minimalist than anything they’ve done before. The album, which was mostly recorded at Toe Rag studios, East London, then finished off at Skyhammer in deepest, darkest Cheshire by Chris Fielding, opens and closes with the sound of a gurgling river and a haunting organ – a return to their uncanny rural roots. After 21 years of being reality rupturing doom outliers, Electric Wizard are finally getting their dues as one of the all-time great British bands. Oborn agrees that the time is right and that their dark star is in the ascendancy… Let the enheavyment commence.

I could listen to this and sing it over and over, and still enjoy it. You'll Find Your Home (Intermezzo) ‐ I'm excited to have this on the album. I took part in the opera Cavaleria Rusticana a while before selecting the songs. Goodbye (Adagio) ‐ I remember tearing up once or twice while recording it. The song moves me, it’s fun to sing and I feel that I connect to the lyrics. Ave Maria ‐ I've sung Ave Maria since I was 8, so this a real treat to have on the album. It's always been a favorite of mine, and I'm so glad I got to sing it again. Air on a G String ‐ I felt that this incredible Bach melody didn't need lyrics, it is already so beautiful. I simply vocalised the melody, and I think it turned out very well! The Key ‐ The most magical out of all the songs on the new album, and I adore it. I love all things fantasy, I like the surreal, and this song was so exciting for me because it is so dreamy and magical. Open Air (based on Traumerei) ‐Knowing that this is also a very famous piece, I tried my best to do it justice. I very much adore this song. Katya Katya (Ekaterina Shelehova) is one of opera’s outstanding new voices. Born in Russia in 1995, Katya immigrated to Canada with her family in 2002. Her career has been focused on both studies and live performances, and her wall is decorated with gold medals and top awards from conservatories and festival in Canada and her native Russia. A seasoned performer, Katya has sung in productions including The Magic Flute, Tosca, La Traviata and Carmen, Cavaleria Rusticana and Pagliacci in both chorus and featured roles.

The garage‐punk trio Le Butcherettes are like the brilliant offspring of surrealist Luis Bunuel and intrepid rock icon PJ Harvey. Led by 24‐year‐old vocalist/guitarist/pianist Teri Gender Bender (a recent transplant to L.A. from Guadalajara, Mexico) Le Butcherettes bring a brazen intensity and playful, hook‐laden simplicity that hacks to pieces all forms of pretension and excess. The band's songs and wildly cathartic live shows have often drawn comparisons to Karen‐O, Patti Smith, Bikini Kill and many other female‐fronted rock groups, but there's a theatricality to Le Butcherettes that brings a further reaching sense of mystery and imagery to the band. Originally forming as a duo, Le Butcherettes began in 2007 as the brainchild of vocalist/guitarist/keyboardist Teri Gender Bender; a modern feminist who cites Sylvia Plath and Malcolm X as major influences. Born to a Mexican stage actress mother and a father who was a fervent lover of the arts, Teri was constantly surrounded by creative energy. Following the death of her father, Teri Gender Bender moved back to Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico to begin a new and eventful chapter in her life, and with that the first page of Le Butcherettes was written. Le Butcherettes quickly garnered acclaim in the Latin underground music scene. The group's debut EP Kiss & Kill won "Best New Artist" and "Best Punk Record" nominations from Mexico's Indie‐O Awards in 2009, and their outrageous and spirited live show captured the attention of both fans and artists alike. By the middle of 2009, Le Butcherettes were tapped by The Yeah Yeah Yeahs to participate in their multi‐date "It's Blitz" tour of Mexico. There, Le Butcherettes blew away the press, nightly audiences of 25,000+ spectators and even the members of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs themselves, who demonstrated their passion for the duo, often dedicating songs to the band. Support dates soon followed with The Dead Weather. Following a nearly legendary L.A. debut performance, Le Butcherettes signed to the prestigious William Morris Endeavor agency for worldwide booking, leading to US dates with The Flaming Lips, Omar Rodriguez Lopez and Jane's Addiction. Festival appearances in 2010 included the main stage alongside The Pixies and Interpol at The Corona Capital Festival in Mexico City and the Sonar Festival in Barcelona, Lollapalooza, Coachella, Fun Fun Fun Fest, endless festivals around the world. Le Butcherettes' full length debut, Sin Sin Sin was produced by Omar Rodriguez‐Lopez, who also plays bass on all of the album's tracks, and was released May 10th, 2011. The band toured the U.S, Europe, Israel, Australia, with new drummer Lia Braswell, touring with such acts as Iggy and The Stooges and The Mars Volta. Their follow up album, Cry is for the Flies, was also produced by Rodriguez‐Lopez and comes out April 15th, 2014 on nadie, Rodriguez‐Lopez’s own label. SPM embodies the elements of Texas southern rap. SPM has garnished a cult following built up through the Texas rap scene through numerous high chart topping releases and his association with legendary DJ Screw “Chopped & Screwed” culture. SPM is gearing up to continue his legacy of albums by releasing his tenth album “Son of Norma”. The album gathers a mix of previously recorded songs before SPM was incarcerated. For the uninitiated, Thank You Scientist was forged from the music program at Montclair State University in New Jersey when guitaristTom Monda met saxophonist Ellis Jasenovic and trumpeter Andrew Digrius. The 3 bonded over their love for Frank Zappa, Mahavishnu Orchestra, The Beatles & Harry Nilsson. Those influences would become the seeds for what Thank You Scientist would evolve into today. With the addition of vocalist Salvatore Marrano, bassist Greg Colacino, drummer Odin Alvarez & violinist Ben Karas, Thank You Scientist’s lineup of virtuoso musicians was complete. They would go on to self‐release The Perils of Time Travel EP in 2011, followed by their debut full‐length Maps of Non‐Existent Places in 2012, which caught the ear of Coheed and Cambria frontman Claudio Sanchez, a fellow purveyor of progressive stylings, which led to his signing of the band. Sanchez officially launched his record label Evil Ink Records in 2014, making Thank You Scientist his first signing. The upcoming release of the fully remixed and remastered version of the band’s 2012 debut full‐length Maps of Non‐Existent Places will be released for the first time ever on vinyl as a 180 gram double LP. To pinpoint Thank You Scientist’s sound would be inconceivable. On Maps of Non‐Existent Places they hold a virtual master class on musicianship, fusing elements of progressive rock with jazz fusion, classical, metal, psychedelic and pop for a head spinning, mind‐blowing listening experience. The seven‐piece band, who collectively play some 20 instruments, boasts a hyper‐composed sound which is indebted to their experience and formal training in both classical and jazz idioms. A Frank Zappa for the indie generation? Incubus jamming with the Mahavishnu Orchestra? Mr. Bungle and Steely Dan joining forces to fight Godzilla? Mos Def & Talib Kweli are Black Star was released on August 18, 1998, to critical acclaim. The title is a reference to the Black Star Line, a shipping company founded by Pan‐Africanist Marcus Garvey. The album deals with modern‐day issues, philosophies and life in Brooklyn. The two MCs had planned to release solo albums around the same time, but decided instead to collaborate on a full‐length album. The first single, “Definition (song),” is a reaction to hip‐hop’s fascination with death, dedicated to both Tupac Shakur and the Notorious B.I.G., with a chorus that gives a nod to Boogie Down Productions’ “Stop the Violence.” “Children’s Story” is a re‐imagination of the Slick Rick original, featuring Mos Def cautioning against materialism. The second single, “Respiration,” featuring Common, includes a Hi‐Tek produced beat that samples Don Randi’s “The Fox” and another from the hip‐hop documentary Style Wars. The track offers a melancholy ode to city life, with references to organic life functions such as breathing, eating and sleeping, but with an ominous edge, as Kweli raps about “sitting on shitty steps/we stooped to new lows, hell froze/the night the city slept.” The album peaked at No. 53 on the Billboard Top 200 and No. 13 on the Hip‐Hop Albums chart, but has become considered a classic since then.

PHIL ALVIN was the big voiced front man and founder along with his brother DAVE of THE BLASTERS. Unlike his brother, his solo career has been fairly low key, and has made only 3 solo albums. Lándini, the new album from Aurelio, sees him reconnecting back to Plaplaya, the village where he grew up, and back to

his musical roots. A narrow spit of land arcs into the Caribbean off the coast of Honduras, where a dark-watered river flows into the sea. There, in a small village without electricity, Garfina songwriter, singer, and guitarist Aurelio Martinez first learned music at his mother's knee. This village, a hamlet named Plaplaya, has become a touchstone for Aurelio, a dedicated Garifuna cultural advocate and musical innovator. In original songs crafted by Aurelio and his mother Maria, as well as traditional tunes, Aurelio returns to the landing place that launched him with Lándini ("landing" in Garifuna), a swaying, bittersweet homage to his beloved home and people. It was only by putting great distance between himself and Plaplaya that Aurelio began to hear this spirit in new ways. He toured the world, performing his own music and paying tribute to his late friend and fellow Garifuna music advocate, Andy Palacio. Thanks to the Rolex Mentor and Protégé Arts Initiative, Aurelio spent time with Senegalese Afropop great Youssou N'Dour. Though it incorporates elements from a wide variety of sources, Garifuna music's heart beats with very personal, deceptively simple tales. Aurelio credits his mother Maria, who dreamed of being a professional singer, with introducing him to the basics of Garifuna songcraft. Like many Garifuna, she composed her own songs based on community events and her personal experience, songs. She would teach the verse and chorus of the songs to her son, who would then go on to build on the tale by adding another verse, in traditional Garifuna style.

At first this might seem an unusual pairing, the dean of the avant-garde bass and a fellow that for decades virtually defined mainstream jazz guitar. But Charlie Haden and Jim Hall had much more common ground than one might think. Each brought over five decades of jazz history to the table and each brought out the best in the other in that most intimate of contexts, the duo.

Charlie Haden and Jim Hall were both veterans at the Art of the Duo—Haden with Keith Jarrett, Ornette Coleman, Kenny Barron, and more; Hall, with Ron Carter, George Shearing, and Bill Evans, among others. Moreover, each dueted with Metheny and both played together under Ornette Coleman’s leadership on The Complete Science Fiction Sessions. Both refused to let any “purist” notions of jazz limit them in any way.

Aside from shared stages and studios, Hall and Haden had something else in common: An earthiness that grounds whatever they’re doing, something that gives a listener something to hold onto—Haden’s background in folk music is never far away, just as shades of the blues and even folk-like simplicity are within Hall’s approach. There are too many highlight to enumerate, but note the Ellingtonian cool and the Monk-y wryness of “Bemsha Swing”; one could imagine John Fahey playing on the bright yet pensive, Caribbean folk-flavored “Down From Antigua,” and before Hall’s tres elegant, gliding solo, “Big Blues” could almost be a Led Zeppelin tune. Dazzling interplay, sparkling solos, rhythmic impetus—it’s all here.

Tre Voci are Kim Kashkashian, viola; Marina Piccinini, flute & Sivan Magen, harp. This group first played

together at the Marlboro Music Festival in 2010, and all of them realized that the potential for this outfit

was too great to be limited to that one event.

On this compelling first release it revolves around Debussy’s 1915 Sonata for flute, viola and harp and its

influence, most directly felt in Takemitsu’s shimmering “And then I knew ‘twas wind”. Debussy himself

had been profoundly moved by his encounter with music of the East and in his last works was

emphasizing tone‐colour, texture and timbre and a different kind of temporal flow. In this music, the

elasticity of Debussy’s feeling for time (as Heinz Holliger observed) pointed far into the future and to the

works of Boulez.

And indeed to the music of Sofia Gubaidulina, whose “Garden of Joys and Sorrows” makes its own reckoning with

orient and occident. Gubaidulina has said that she considers herself "a daughter of two worlds, whose soul lives in

the music of the East and the West".
