By Sudha UmashankerThere was a tingling sense of

anticipation in the hallbefore Sanjay Subrah-manyan’s concert in KrishnaGana Sabha on Dec. 25. Sanjaynever disappoints his rasikasand his concert on that dayexceeded expectations.

He was accompanied by S.Varadarajan (violin), PalladamRavi (mridangam) and Banga-lore Rajasekar (morsing) wholent wonderful support in en-hancing the experience.

Sanjay started with songslike Kamakshi Amba, Para-

Sanjay Subrahmanyan concert -Music that touched the soul

mathmudu and moved to moreintensifying numbers likeMuruga Muzhumathi Pazhi-kum Arumuga and MariveraDikevaraiya Rama. He thenshowed another facet of hiswith pieces like BhogendraSayeenam and a RagamThanam Pallavi (Oru TharamSiva Chidambaram).

In my opinion, he is a coura-geous singer, for he lets go ofthe familiar and dares to gowhere lesser musicians fearto tread. It is this approach Ibelieve that has helped himfind his unique voice. His virtu-osity and years of sadh-ana showed up at every stageof the concert.

He effortlessly scaled up anddown the octaves and his voiceglided along with effortless easeproviding the audience with analmost spiritual experience. One could feel a paradigm shiftin the energies in that halland deep peace settling overthe listeners, only interruptedby the spontaneous applauseat the end of each song.

The concert concluded withBharathiyar songs (NinnaiyeRathi endru and TheerthaKarai inile) and a Thirupugazh.

It was indeed a concert thattouched the soul. SudhaUmashanker is a well knownfree lance writer and a Carnaticmusic critique. Her contactnumber is 98402 47624

LETTERS TO THE EDITORCorporation defies court order to remove encroachment

Sir, We are residents of Gokulam Colony, West Mambalam, nearSatyanarayana Temple.

We have been fighting for more than a decade to remove a largeencroachment by a lady who is occupying more than half the width ofthe approach road to our colony from Indian Bank Bus Stop andconnecting Balakrishna Mudali Street.

She is running a private business on the encroached space.Due to the encroachment, the road is reduced to less than half the

width, Corporation lorries finds it difficult to approach the road to collectthe daily garbage from the bin kept near the encroachment. Due to thenarrowing of the road, vehicles are forced to drive over the storm waterdrain on the opposite side resulting in it often getting damaged

After fighting the case in court for a number of years, a judgment waspassed favouring the appellant and the court ordered the Corporationto remove the encroachment.

But till date no action has been taken by the Corporation officials toimplement the court order.

We wonder why the officials are sleeping over the court order unlessthere is a powerful nexus between the encroacher and local officials.

We have also made an online complaint in the Corporation portal andAmma’s cell but still no action has been taken. Gokulam ColonyResidents

Natesan Street excluded from enumerationSir, I am a resident of Natesan Street which was badly affected

during the recent floods. The Tahsildar/Revenue inspector last weekvisited the nearby Thukaram Street and New Postal Colony (behindSiva Vishnu Temple) and did enumeration for distribution of flood reliefamounts by noting down names, addresses and bank account numbersof the residents. But they left without collecting details from theresidents of our street. I, along with some other residents, immediatelyvisited the Tahsildar’s office in Saidapet and lodged a complaint. Butso far the enumeration has not been done. It is unjust if the residentsof our street are deprived of flood relief funds as we too incurred heavylosses due to the floods. We appeal to the Tahsildar to visit our streetand do the enumeration. M. A. Jaishankar, 38, Natesan Street, T.Nagar. Ph: 97909 34666.
