ABSTRACT
This thesis is essential because it intends on solving the problem of space, time, and
economy encountered when using the flat fabric inspection table and advanced fabric
inspection machine and in addition to this it will try to increase the quality of fabric.
Small scale industries in textile and garment Plants inspects fabric on flat fabric
inspection table and most of them do not use any mechanisms to solve the above
problems. Thus they are wasting key elements that affect the profitability of industry.
Therefore this paper triest design a fabric inspection machine which is manually driven
that is economical effective and efficient in operation. Before we go directly to the
design of the machine a brief introduction on the basic concept of fabric inspection
machine, its and benefit will be provided so that the readers has a clear picture why we
do finally a number of features of the machine are given for the readers and this paper
can be used as a lead for future research works in the field.

BACK GROUND OF THE RESEARCH
Introduction
Fabric inspection is the visual examination or review of fabrics that received from
supplies in relation to some standards, specification or requirement. The cost impact of
defect can be greatly reduced by detecting the defects early as possible. Fabric
inspection determine its acceptability from a quality view point, otherwise extra cost
may be incurred due to either the loss of material or time. The quality of the final
garment depends on the quality of a fabric when it is received as a roll.
BASED ON TECHNOLOGY
Fabric inspection is done either manually, semi automatically and fully automatic. It
depends on the technological development and types of fabric roll.
Manual inspectionIt is suitable to folded cuttled fabrics done on a large (long) flat table due to the size of
the table it needs large spaces. All activities are performed by the operator; it is low
productivity and inconsistence due to the fatigue of the operation.
Semi-Automatic Fabric inspectionIt performs some of the operations automatically and the rest are responsible of the
operator or inspector. Mostly the following operations performed automatically width
and meterage measuring system. Defect analysis and detection may not performed by
the machine. It is more productive and costly than the manual inspection.

The automated fabric inspection systems are based on adaptive neural networks. It is
most productive and consistence, the most costy system. Due to the above reason: Ther
is a need for cheaper and efficient inspection machine. This machine should be afforded
by small scale textile and garment industries.
OBJECTIVE OF THE RESEARCH
The objective of this study is to design a fabric inspection machine which has less cost,
minimum space consumption, effective and efficient in operation for the user.
STATEMENT OF PROBLEM
Globalization has brought the planet together ; and Ethiopians small scale textiles and
garment industries are highly related with the outside world, and they are more and
more manufacturing products for local and foreign customers; therefore benchmarks fo
quality and sped are being set very high. With everything in mind the majority of them
are not using the proper material or following the proper techniques in order to achieve
the standards. This problem is related with the lack of awareness or capital. Some knowthe existence fabric inspection machine but they do not have the required capital to buy
it, others do not know its existence. In the production of fabric, a number of fabrics in
the form of cutteled fold are inspected on the long flat fabric inspection table and the
rolls of fabrics are inspected on the semi-automatic and fully automatic inspection
machine. The manual fabric inspection system has a disadvantage of high space
consumption due to its length, in consistence and fatigue and the cost of semi-automati
and automatic inspection machine is very high then small scale industries do not afford
the cost of those machines and also as developing country there is less tendency to
produce industry machineries within the country: due to reason there is a need of

inspection machine which have less cost, minimum space consumption, effective and
efficient in operation.
SCOPE OF THE RESEARCH
The scope of the research started from idea development to the design stage.
BENEFITS AND BENEFICIARIES
Many organs will beneficiate from the inspection machine that will be designed. They ar
two major beneficiaries of these research, they are small firms / micro enterprise in
textile and garment industry. These two beneficiaries will also benefit by using thisresearch; those are:
Reduce the cost of electric power to run the machine. Reduce foreign currency that paid to the imported machine. Since the inspectio
machine will be manufactured locally and create job for the communities
opportunities.
Transferring technology to small firms /micro enterprise and also save spaces insteady of the long fabric inspection table. All this will help the industries to
accomplish the required excellence. Thus it results in higher profitability. In
addition to these two organs there are many other organization that benefit
indirectly from this research for instance researchers or graduate students may
use this research as an element while they are doing their research.

METHODOLOGY
LITERATURE REVIEW
Fabric inspection machine is the tools to improve/control fabric quality by the process
know as inspection. Most researches have only focused on semi-automated and fully
automated fabric inspection machine for the industries /factories. The tradition fabric
inspection (:.e the flat cannot be used for the rolled fabric it is difficult to inspect the rol
fabric.
Regarding to quality of row materials and products (output products) fabric inspection is
one of the critical issue in textile and garment industries. These are different types or

models of semi-automated and fully automated fabric inspection machine which have
different parts and functions.
For manual inspection system :_ It has long table for inspection area.
_It has 4 or 6 legs for holding the table.
_The number of legs depends on the length of the table.
Most semi-automatic and fully automatic fabric inspection machine is_In dependently controlled unwind and rewind cradles with electronic synchronization
for tension free rewinding wit out stretching for woven and knitted fabrics.
_Automatic edge guide system for accurate rewinding in order to reduce selvage during
cutting.
_In dependent over head lamp and rear light box with three illumination levels.
_Electronics counter for measuring (in feet, yard or mater).
_caster for mobility.
_Automatic stop features at the end of the roll.
_additional start /stop buttons in center of over head lamp assembly.
Basically the manual fabric inspection machine is consists of wooden frame, roller
for holding the fabrics roll and to control tension of the fabric during inspection.
An inclined inspection table with light/light box/ for a very good view of defects fo
inspection.

TYPES OF FABRIC INSPECTION MACHINE
Based on the types of fabric there are two major categories of fabric inspection machine
those are woven and knitted fabric inspection machine. We manufacture and offer to
our clients a wide range fabric inspection machine that is suitable for woven and knitted
fabric. Those machines have lighting arrangement at the top or at the bottom. Available

WOVEN FABRIC INSPECTION

DESCRIPTION OF FABRIC INSPECTION MACHINE
Fabric inspection machines are used to inspect fabric quality. These machines measures
the fabric using different parameters and these parameters can also changed according
to the fabric specification, features fully detachable body, portable with standard fitting
makes the installation of this machine easily.
WHAT IS THE CONCEPT WHEN USING FABRIC INSPECTION MACHINE
The diversity of fabric quality and kinds of making up demands of an inspecting machine
also a multiplicity of different main and secondary functions for this purpose, the
inspection machine has continuously developed and perfecting their fabric inspecting
and make-up technique by carefully studied and variable modular design from the simp
long flat table to the automated fabric inspection machine.
HOW TO DESIGN FABRIC INSPECTION MACHINE
It is design based on the fabric types (knitted or woven); then analysis the existing flat
fabric inspection table, semi automatic and fully automatic fabric inspection machine.
From this we can design fabric inspection machine by modifying the existing fabric
inspection machine. This machine is designed so that the roll of fabric can be mounted
behind the inspection table under an adequate light and re rolled as they leave the table
