Tutorial 5: Revolves, Patterns, and Copies

Introduction

The Revolve option is useful for designing circular parts and features. Patterns and copies allow multiple instances of a feature tobe created with little effort. In this section, you will revolve a section around a centerline to create a pulley and a hole. You will alsocreate a pattern of holes and a copy of this pattern.

Creating a Revolved Part

1. Start Pro! "ildfire.#. $hoose %&ile' () %*ew' and name the new part %!+ample'.

3. Select the Revolve Tool icon from the tool bar at the right of the screen, as shown in &igure .1.

4. Select the S-etcher icon from the revolve tool bar on the dashboard.  

5. Select the plane labeled &R*T and select the S-etch button in the Section menu.  

6. Select %S-etch' () %Intent /anager' from the menu bar. 

7. 0oom in so that you see the coordinates shown in &igure .#. 

8. Select %ine' from the 2!/!TRY menu, and select %$enterline' from the I*! TYP! menu.

9. $lic- point 3 and point 4 shown in &igure .# to create a centerline.  

10. Select %2eometry' from the I*! TYP! menu. 

11. 5raw the section shown in &igure .# by clic-ing the endpoints with the left mouse button, and then clic-ing the middle mouse

button.

12. Select %Regenerate' from the S6!T$7!R menu. 

13. 3dd the dimension shown at point 3 in &igure .8 by performing the following steps9  

$lic- !dge1 with the left mouse button. 

$lic- $enterline with the left mouse button. 

$lic- !dge1 again with the left mouse button.

$lic- point 3 with the middle mouse button.

14. &ollow the same procedure to add the dimensions at points 4 and $.  15. &ollow the normal procedure for dimensioning to add the dimensions at points 5, !, &, 2, and 7. 

16. Select %Regenerate'. You should now be able to see dimensions similar to those shown in &igure .8.

17. Select %Scale' from the /5 S6!T$7 menu. 

18. Select the dimension at point 3.  

19. Type : into the te+tbo+ and clic- the chec- mar-. 

20. Select %Regenerate'. 3ll of the dimensions should scale. 

21. Select %/od !ntity' from the /5 S6!T$7 menu.

23. Select %Regenerate'. You should see the image shown in &igure .=.

26. Rotate the part to e+amine the modifications. You should see the image shown in &igure ..

Creating a Sketched Hole by Revolving Section

1. Select the 7ole Tool icon from the tool bar at the right of the screen.

2. Select %S-etched' for the shape of the hole in the hole tool bar on the dashboard.  

3. Select the S-etcher icon, as shown in &igure .;.

6. $lic- points 3 and 4 to draw a centerline as shown in &igure .<. 7. Select %2eometry' from the I*! TYP! menu and clic- points $, 5, !, &, 2, 7, $ to draw the section shown in &igure .<.

3dd the dimensions at points $ and 5 using the normal method.

14. $lic- on the Placement menu on the dashboard and select %Radial' for the hole placement dimensions, as shown in &igure .1:.  

15. $lic- and drag one handle on the hole to the center a+is of the hole in the pulley. 5rag the other handle to the plane labeled &R*T

Ado not select the handle that changes the diameter of the holeB. You should see the image shown in &igure .1:.

Creating Patterns and Copies

1. Select the hole that was just created and select the Pattern Tool icon fro the tool !ar at the ri"ht of the screen.#. 5ouble clic- on the dimension that was shown at point 4 in &igure .1:. $hange the value from : to ;:, as shown in &igure .18.

3. $hange the number of features to ;, as in &igure .18. This will ma-e a pattern of ; holes located ;: degrees apart.
