I must be honest and express the pressure I was under while design-

year, and ater putting out a newsletter eedback survey, I had a lot
on my plate to make this the best it could be. I hope you like it~!! Iyou have any suggestions, comments, concerns, questions, etc., dont
hesitate to let me know! Theres always room or improvement, so stay
tuned or the next issue or some brand new additions and such! :)
On a Circle K-related note, though, has it been a crazy six weeks or
what!? Ive been pretty much on my toes throughout this quarter (or
both Circle K and school reasons) so ar, but I cant help but thank
Circle K or being my occasional stress reliever. Speaking o stress reliever, I am
NCREDIBLY EXCITED or this weekend. Why? Fall Training Conerence~! This

If you thought Circle K took a break during the summer, take another
at our calendar! Throughout the summer, UCLA CKI held service pro
socials and even began hosting general meetings so our members c
stay active and continue upholding our tenets of service, leadership
fellowship. With the more exible schedule, Service Team was ab
have events like Habitat for Humanity Community Build Day, where
helped build a house to a local deserving family, or Heal the Bay BClean Up, where we cleaned up Dockweiler Beach with Foothill Div
schools. We even had environmental projects in Orange County, suc
ROOTS Day and 2nd Sundays at Upper Newport Bay, where we remo
invasive plants so the natural vegetation could grow.
Our service wasnt limited to the LA or OC area, since some of us m
the trek down to San Diego for District Summer Service Social. Cal-
Ha Circle K-ers came from all over to enjoy service projects, fun so
and network with Kiwanians at DSSS, which is held in conjunction
Kiwanis DCON. The whole weekend was jampacked with events w
we ate for service, had an epic laser tag battle, and cleared out p
overgrowth for the environmental project. We also attended worksho
learn about things like changes to the Membership Recognition Progand the new District Service Initiative written by our own Jamie T
Needless to say, this was an amazing opportunity to bond with C
K-ers within our district.
Now that summer is over and school has started, there are plent
opportunities to do fall service projects! Keep your eyes and ears o
for whats coming up this quarter!

Playa Del Rey K-Kids Fall Festival is an
nnual event that Playa Del Rey Elemen-
ary put on. Each year, around Halloween,
l of the kids dress up in their favorite Hal-
ween costumes, and the entire school gets
Halloween makeover!
They have various activities around the
ampus, from arts & crafts to games, and
ey even have a rock climbing wall! Its
n immense event so they needed as much
help as they can get. We volunteered at a
food station (omg, their popcorn is amaz-
ing!) and various games stations.
Patrick [Huie] and I even participated
in an adult dodgeball tournament on their
dodgeball obstacle! Although I dont re-
member who won, I think the kids came in
and chased all the adults out. At the end on
the festival, we all got to go on an inat-
able bounce house and jump our joy out.
What an exhilarating day!

On October 22nd, 2011, UCLA Circle
hosted its annual Key To College, an event
hat a Circle K hosts to educate high school
udents about college. We were able to
ring in over sixty Key Club members from
earby divisions. The Key Club membersrst enjoyed our numerous ice breakers fol-
owed by a late morning tour of the campus,
which included residential halls. After lunch,
hey learned about SATs, Financial Aid, and
ance during the workshop succession and
got their questions answered during the
panel.
Overall, it was a very successful event and
an enormous improvement over last years
Key To College. Connie Lams hard work
and planning along with the dedication of
UCLA Circle Ks board paid off in the end.
Furthermore, we were almost able to get
almost fty Circle K members to volunteer
at this single event! Well done Clammmm,
we are all proud of you! We look forward
on matching our success next year!

The beginning of every school year is always a big
for UCLA Circle K. While the same feeling arises at the
of every quarter, nothing beats the thrill of a new scyear. The reason behind this is the simple fact of wel
ing new Bruins into the club. This year, we had a plet
of rush events for our potential new members, planne
none other than our Membership Development and Educa
Chair Alex Pham. And what better name to call this seri
events than Circle K: Were More Than a Gas Station
Believe it or not, but our welcome week activities ran
ERY DAY for two weeks. Each day embraced one of t
tenets of service, leadership, and fellowship. By doing
not only were we representing CKI in the best way poss
were also giving potential members a greater feel of
organization and to spark their interest in whatever way
sible. Needless to say, it ultimately paid off in the long
because we had large numbers of people come out to
of our events. It was fantastic! Lets take a short trip d
memory lane with our favorite rush week events, shall w
Things kicked off at the end of Week 1 on Thursday a
our very rst General Meeting of the year. After this m
ing, we had a Meet the Board social, where people
mingle and snack on goodies. The next day, we had a p
at Sunset Recreation Center, which was moved to a loca

cooperating with us that day! As we started the montOctober with a lovely weekend, the Sports Jamboree

As Week 2 began, we started with Dorm Brunch, because,
well, nothing beats brunch in the dining halls! We also had
n event called Board Games with Board (what a great pun,
o?), where members simpled played all sorts of different
oard games with board. Two different great events alsoook place this week: the Alexandria House Cook Night and
ards for Tanzania. Both projects allowed members to em-
race their creative sides with cooking and arts and crafts.
My personal favorite event took place this week as welll - Ice
Skating Social! When I was a
rst year, this was the one event
I enjoyed and remembered the
most; it was also when I met my
rst Circle K friend: Neil, your
president!
Week 3 marked the last
week of welcome week activi-es, starting with the Run Long Beach Marathon, at which our
members woke up bright and early to volunteer with CSULBs
ircle K to cheer on runners and hand out cups of water as
hey ran by. One of the crazier rush week events we had was
rogressive Dinner, which was a favorite to many because
hey were pretty much apartment hopping for delicious noms
ll evening! We wrapped up the week with an epic battle of
umans VS Zombies Friday night and CKI South on Saturday.
What a way to end all our rush events, huh!?
Whew! That was a handful! New members and old mem-
ers alike, I certainly hope you all enjoyed the activities thatook place during our welcome week(s). We can only hope
o bring more wonderful things to you now and in the future
s well! Thanks for coming out!
Each day embracedone o three tenets o

and ellowship.

at CKI Sout
Waking up bright and early on a Saturday morning, I hopped in my car
to pick up several sleepy Circle K-ers to head to my very rst (and sadly
last) CKI South! After an hour, we arrived and were greeted with masses ofpumped Circle K-ers in club shirts, bandanas, knee-high socks and looks of
erce desire to win. There were several stations with different games river
of lava, balloon pop, sponge race, jump rope, and relay race. UCLA rocked
the games, showing great spirit and sportsmanship. I was glad to have been
a part of TEAM VICTORY!!
During Metro DCM that followed, I was glad to see we had new schools
join the big Circle K family, including Cal State University Northridge and
Pierce College! I hope they grow in numbers and develop an awesome Circle
K branch in their schools.
The day ended in an intense ninja battle to determine the winners of CKI
South which turned out to be UCI! They did a great job in the competitions.Sweaty, tired, and throat hoarse from shouting, I was exhausted but super
thankful that I got to spend my Saturday at CKI South with some amazing
people supporting a good cause.

Masquerade Ball is an annual district-
wide event hosted by UC San Diegos
Circle K club held this year on Halloween
weekend. It is a fundraiser for Pediatric
rauma Program, which
eeks to reduce the numberof children killed or injured
by unintentional injury. Not
only is this event held on a
boat, this event is held on
a THREE-LEVEL BOAT, set-
ng sail from 12:30AM to
3:30AM.
This years Masquerade
all was different in that it
was held on Halloween Weekend (which
explains why UC Berkeley wasnt there, ince they have a single service project dur-
ng this time... ) where the event was Hal-
oween themed so attendees were allowed
o come dressed up formally like previous
years or with a creative costume! One of
he most creative costumes this year was
UCLAs own, and Metro Lieutenant Gov-
ernor JONATHAN JUNPRADUB, where he
dressed up as a Ghostbuster packed with
a self-made proton pack with pretty lights
and sound effects. Also, for some odd rea-
son, there seemed to be a lot of the beau-
tiful ladies dressed up as Minnie Mouse,
including our very own Vice President of
Administration, LINZY BINGCANG.
There were a lot of attendees from our
club who were going for the rst time.
GARVEY SU, well-respect-
ed member and co-fund-raising chair, says with this
year being my rst time at
Masquerade Ball, I was re-
ally excited for the event
and I could feel the entire
bus anticipation as well. A
harmony of UCLA, CSULB,
and El Camino sung on the
trip to San Diego. On the
yacht, everyone was enjoying themselves,
whether they were karaoke-ing, playing
casino games, taking pictures as a couple
or with friends, or dancing the night away
with friends downstairs or romantically with
ones signicant other upstairs on the deck.
As the event reached its end, the nap on
the bus ride back from 4-6AM is going to
be the best nap of your life.
...and to think, BRIAN KAN wanted me
to drive to KEEN LA at 9AM. Nope! Chuck
Testa. We all need our rests for the amaz-
ing and unforgettable event, Masquerade.

TurKeys Take:Passion TriumphsOver All
I have seen my share of moments inCircle K, but something that gets mevery time is members with enthusi-sm. New members who bring charis-
ma and drive to the organization help
ekindle an old bag of bones mascotke me.It happens to all of us. Just like
ow eating too much ChOcOlAtE cAkEmakes you sick, people get tired of theame things over and over. It is sad,
but some of the members may leaveor a bit just to try out new things.Yet, there is a silver lining in this soul
earching. Even though we may leave, ventually we will always come backo an organization that was such auge part of us. Part of that reasons because of you, the new membersoining. Theres a small turtle-monkeyn each one of you, ready to BURSTut of your heart of gold to do greathings for the community. Its hard tond that nowerdays; people in Circle
K understand how to help peoplemore than any other group on campus.
So if I have any advice to give toou, it is this: dont be afraid of us old
members. In fact, were as shy to meetou as you are to meet us! Dont befraid to introduce yourself or ask ifouve forgotten a name. We mayot come out as much, but rest assuredwe share the same passion for help-
ng others as you do.

spects of CKI. Look forward to
