PRINCIPAL’S NEWS
Congratulations to all our Year 3, 5, 7 and 9
students who sat their NAPLAN tests last
Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. All our
students tried their best during the exams.
Thank you to Mrs McCosker and Mrs
O‟Dwyer who supervised the tests. The results
will help us to individualise our teaching and
learning programs to cater for the needs of our
students.
Last week Charlotte Fisher and Daniel Walker
represented our school and the
Gobondery/NARRAF district at the Western
region touch trials in Wellington. Miss Louise
McAneney coached this team and was very
impressed with the effort and sportsmanship
of our students.
Our Year 11 students have started their half-
yearly exams this week. The students have
been studying and applying themselves to
their exams.
Our Connected Learning Coach, Sue
Mestrom, is visiting us today to help our staff
with the use of our interactive whiteboards.
This position is partially funded through our
National Partnerships funding. We have been
very privileged to have Pam Davis last year
and Sue this year in this position as they have
a wealth of knowledge and skill in utilizing
the Interactive Whiteboard for the teaching
learning process.
Students are sitting the first of our UNSW
competitions, Computer Skills, today.
Years 7-12 travel to Dubbo on Wednesday for
an excursion to the Art Gallery and to see a
play. Our Choir are attending a workshop in
Trangie on Wednesday as well. The World of
Maths roadshow is on Thursday and parents
are also invited to attend. Our Primary
debating team travel to Nyngan to debate
Bourke on Thursday also. Please return your
permission notes and money to the front
office. Tuesday the 29th will see the CWA
Public Speaking competition here in
Tullamore. Students from Years 3 to 10 will
compete against students from surrounding
schools in this very competitive competition.
Unfortunately Mr Martin Lee has resigned
from the Mitchell Conservatorium of Music.
The Conservatorium is in the process of
recruiting a new music teacher of our school.
Guitar, piano and violin lessons are on hold
until a new teacher is appointed. Any music
fees that have been paid in advance will be
refunded.
Please contact either myself or the Mitchell
conservatorium if you require further
information.
Our Athletics Carnival is at school all day

school athletics carnival. Donations of cakes,
slices and fruit can be left at school.
Our P&C is also catering for the
Gobondery/NARRAF district cross country
which will be held at Pola Park on Friday 1st
June. Donations of cakes, slices, fruit and eggs
as well as time to help with preparation and
serving would be most appreciated. Please
contact our catering whizz, Mrs Mel Alvey.
Years 7-10 half-yearly exams begin next
Monday. Please encourage your child to revise
for these exams.
We are again placing helpful advice into our
newsletter for student attendance. With winter
fast approaching and the cold and flu season, it
is important that students attend every possible
day, so that if they do get sick and have to stay
home, they do not find themselves with a large
number of days absence. If students are sick
and attend a medical centre please ask for a
medical certificate for us to place in their
records.
Our next P&C meeting is on Monday 4th
June
in the Library at 7:00pm. Everyone is
welcome.
Please feel free to call me at school on 6892
5005 or make an appointment if you need to
discuss any aspect of your child‟s education or
if you need clarification on any issues or
events your child may be involved in.
Our Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL)
expectations: At Tullamore Central School we
are respectful, responsible, cooperative and
honest learners.

P&C NEWS
The P&C will be catering for a few upcoming
carnivals for the school and we are asking for
donations and volunteers to help out with this.
These carnivals are:
* The school athletics carnival which is on this
Friday the 25th
May at the school. Volunteers
will need to be at the school about 9:00am and
onwards to begin to set up for the day.
The P&C would appreciate any donations
of cakes, slices, fruit, etc to sell on the day.
The P&C will also be selling pies, sausage
rolls, hot dogs, powerade, water, poppers, hot
milos and tea and coffee.
* The next event is the Gobondery/NARRAF
cross country which is on Friday 1st June at
Pola Park. We will try to start the day early to
allow for travellers and Mel is hoping to be
around by 8:00am to prepare the canteen.
The P&C would appreciate any donations
of eggs, loaves of bread, coleslaw, biscuits,
muffins, fruit, etc to use and sell on the day.
The P&C will be selling egg and bacon rolls,
steak and sausage sandwiches, ham/chicken
salad rolls, hot dogs, pumpkin soup, and a
range of hot and cold drinks.
As this is a big event with at least 252 students
attending we will require the help of a lot of
volunteers to be able to cater for such a large
crowd. We will need help setting up,
preparing, cooking and selling food and
transporting food and equipment to Pola Park.
If you think you may be available and willing
to help out on the day or before hand then
please contact Mel Alvey at
[email protected] or 6892 5562 as soon
as possible. Also if you are able to help out
with egg donations could you please contact
Mel and let her know how many you are able
to donate please.
On Thursday afternoon (31st May) before
Gobondery we will be doing some preparation
work at the school to get ready for the big day.
If you are available to help then please let Mel
know.

read simultaneously in libraries, schools,
preschools, childcare centres, homes and
bookshops.
This year, reading takes place on Wednesday

Well done to Daniel Walker and Charlotte

selected but they represented our district with
great pride and sportsmanship.

SECONDARY NEWS
Welcome to week 5!
There are a few short reminders that follow in
this section for secondary students and their
parents:
URGENT - DER Laptop Chargers –
Missing!
All chargers for the DER student laptops that
have been issued to students from Years 7-10
need to be found and brought in to school. At
the moment we are missing a number of
chargers off the charging dock. Each charger
has a number and the student that was issued
this charger is responsible for it.
This means that if these chargers do not
come back to school or cannot be found the
student that it has been issued to will be
invoiced for the cost of a new one.
Laptop Issues!
Year 9 and 10 students who have signed the
laptop charter and who are not bringing their
laptops to school charged and ready for
lessons are in violation of the charter that they
have signed. If it continues to be a problem,
laptops will be taken off students and they will
only be able to access them at school.
Remember our expectations regarding use of
the laptops:
Bring them to school fully charged
See Mr Owen if they are having any
issues with the device as soon as
possible
Your laptop is a learning tool - it is to
be used at the direction of your
teachers
Teacher is talking – lids ajar and
paying attention.
WH&S compliant shoes
Students and parents were advised at the end
of 2010 and 2011 about compliant footwear
for school. Students should be wearing black
leather shoes or boots that cover the entire
foot. On days that students have PE or sport
they need to be bringing their sports shoes
with them and changing into them for those
lessons. Canvas slip on shoes are not
acceptable for PE or sport as they provide no
shock absorption for the foot. Please ensure
that students have the correct footwear
otherwise they will not be able to participate
in practical elements in specialist subjects.
Mobile phones and music players
Students are reminded that they are not to
have their phones or music players out in class
unless they are using them under the direction
of their teachers for a specific lesson activity.
They are also reminded that they should not be
using their phones or music players in the
playground during recess and lunch breaks or
between classes. This is due to WH&S. We
have already had some near miss incidents
with people texting and not looking where
they are going and incidents where a student
has not heard a teacher‟s instruction because
they had their music player / phone earphones
in. Please adhere to these rules and do not be
surprised when a staff member asks you to put
your phone / music player away.

Assessments and Home Work
Half yearly examinations will be occurring for
all students from Years 7 – 10 in week 6 of
this term. The exam timetable is published in
this newsletter and will be distributed to
students today. If students are absent from
school during the exam period they must have
a doctor‟s certificate to cover absences due to
illness. Other absences must be approved by
the principal.
Year 11 students have begun sitting their half
yearly examinations this week.
Students are reminded that they should be
asking their teachers questions and begin
revising the work covered this semester in
preparation.
Senior Assessment Items - the following items
are due over the next few weeks:
Preliminary
Assessments
Due Date
Ancient History Week 5 (During
Exam Week)
Work placement (Group
A)
Week 6
Metals and Engineering Week 7
CAFS Week 7
Applied Mathematics Week 7
VET Work placements
This week Emily Ashe has been at TAFE as
part of her Certificate III in Electrotechnology
looking at wiring systems and diagrams.
Emily will also be completing her WH&S
White card training as part of this course
which enables her to enter building sites on
her work placement later in the year.
Next week sees the first of our Year 12 work
placement activities. Zac Guy is off to Custom
Steel in Dubbo for a week of work as part of
his Certificate III in Metals and Engineering.
Zac early commenced his studies in this
course whilst in Year 10. This has meant that
he is able to have an AQF Certificate III
qualification by the end of his Year11 studies.
Year 11 Primary Industries will be heading to
a week of TAFE in Week 10 this term as part
of their Certificate II in Agriculture. They will
be covering several areas including use of
ATV‟s, Chainsaws, Tractors and PTO
equipment and chemical application.
Chemcert Training
Year 10 and 11 Agriculture students will be
travelling to Condobolin on 20th July to
complete their AQF Accredited Chemical
Course. This is a qualification that is now
needed by many industries, especially
agriculture. In one of our careers lessons we
were looking at jobs advertised in the Land
newspaper and there were 64 jobs advertised
and there were at least 49 references to
Chemcert or preference of potential employees
to have this accreditation. Making our students
employable has been the goal of our careers
and school to work program for the last 2
years and we subsidise courses such as this to
enable our students to have the opportunity to
gain these qualifications.
Drama / Art Excursion to Dubbo
Secondary students will be able to experience
live theatre and visit an art gallery this week
due to the efforts of Mr Richards. Mr Richards
was successful in gaining a grant that will
enable our students to be exposed to a live
drama performance of David Williamson‟s
play “Let the Sun Shine” at the Dubbo
Regional Theatre and they will be able to
further experience art with a visit to the Dubbo
Regional Gallery. This is an experience many
students do not get the opportunity to
participate in and I encourage all students to
attend this. Students have permission notes for
this event and I would like to thank Mr
Richards for his efforts in providing this
wonderful learning experience for our
students.

School Athletics Carnival
We will be running this from school again this
year. Please make sure you are at school for a
9:00am start. Parents are reminded not to drive
their vehicles past the library due to pedestrian
access on the day. Students are encouraged to
dress in their house colours and come prepared
for a day of fun (hopefully in the sun this
year!).
If there are any parents who are willing to
assist with time keeping on the day it would be
greatly appreciated. This year we will be
attempting a novelty hurdles race. It will be a
time trial event with participation points going
towards the overall house tally. We will also
be looking at a parent/teacher relay but with a
twist. Thank you to the suggestions which
have already come in. It looks like we will do
a medley of activities to maximise our chances
of winning. If you have another suggestion
I‟m still happy to consider all options.
We have already held our discus events at
school and will be holding the secondary
javelin this Thursday during PE.

Trundle Junior League News for games
played on Saturday 19th May Trundle v's
Condobolin at Trundle
Trundle U/7's.
Bad luck guys. Well played but there are a few
things we can improve on at training. If we
could all try to make it for training on
Tuesday at 5:00pm that would be great. I
would like to thank Condobolin for cycling
two players throughout the game so everyone
could play.
But on a down note I would like to make
perfectly clear that kicking and punching
players, referees etc will not be tolerated in
any form of Country Rugby League. Juniors
games from under 7's to under 18's and future
plans for the National Rugby League and 1st

Under 10’s
With 7 Trundle players up against
Condobolin, we were happy to borrow 4
players for the game.
Darcy and Tommy teamed up well with
Tommy scoring 2 tries from Darcy‟s kicking
and Darcy also scored a try.
Brandan had a great game and kicked a goal,
with Darcy and Tommy also kicking a goal
each.
William and Nathan were quick in attack, with
solid runs. Isaiah and Skye showed off their
defending skills with some great tackles.
The score was 18 - 18 just after half time.
With some handling errors, Trundle wasn‟t
able to keep up with Condobolin, the final
score being 34 – 18.
We have another home game this week against
Grenfell. See you at training on Tuesday and
Thursday at 5:00pm.

Trundle U/12's Services & Citizens Club
The U/12's took on Condobolin at home on
Saturday and were beaten 0-36. The score line
doesn't tell the full story as it was a gutsy
effort against a win at all cost Condobolin
side.
Best defenders were the same children that put
their hand up week in week out, Sam Nixon,
Will Nixon and Andrew Ashe. They were
backed up by Tom Aveyard, Dan Walker,
Sam Horsburgh, Jack Eyre, Cameron
Shepherd and Harry Friend.
TERM 2 2012 – WEEK 5
Page | 12
Best in attack were Will Nixon and Tom
Aveyard with some good runs and AA with
some good organisation. Boys when we had
the ball we went OK but a slack defensive line
let Condobolin control the ball too much.
While a few injuries at the end allowed Condo
to run a couple more in.
We play Grenfell next week so get to training
Tuesday and Thursday. Thanks to Matt, Paul
S, Paul C, Donna E and Donna R.

Steve
Junior League Tag
Thank you to Greg Burke for training the girls
last Thursday. The girls worked hard and
enjoyed the speed touch.
10 League Tag girls had a game amongst
themselves on Saturday. Great game girls. The
girls are improving each week with their
passing and tagging skills. Great use of
communication and spreading across the field
with only five players on each side.
Tries were scored by Charlotte, Paris and
Hannah W. Thank you to Mat Aveyard for
being the referee and to Darcy, Sam and
Lachlan for being the linesman. See you at
training on Thursday at 5:00pm. We will let
you know at training what time you need to be
at the home game against Grenfell on
Saturday.
Thank you
Alex and Doll
Attention Parents
Thanks to the few who helped out in the
canteen on Saturday. It was very much
appreciated. However we are still short at
certain times of the day - particularly during
set up at 8:30am in the morning and during the
12‟s games. If we do not have parent helpers
we will be forced to close the canteen until we
have enough helpers. This is directed at
parents who do not help with the club in any
way - not the parents who help week in week
out.
Next week both canteen managers will be
absent and we will possibly be hosting a 14‟s
and 16‟s game - so lots of help will be needed.
So pop your head in on the day and ask if they
need help or give Donna Eyre a call on 6892
1544 if you are unsure on what to do or what
time would be more appropriate. An hour of
your time is all that is needed.
Remember all the money raised in the canteen
keeps our football club running - without ALL
parent support we cannot continue to do this.
We only have 6 home games and 2 senior
League games left, so please do your part. It
would be a real shame to lose this in our
community as well.
Thankyou
Donna Eyre
