Keywords and Pronunciation• coherence : the sensible presentation of smoothly

• evidence : a specific detail, such as a fact or expert opinion, that supports a reason

• introduction : the first paragraph of an essay, identifying the topic and stating the main idea

• pattern of organization : the order in which details are arranged

What are the stages of the writing process?

Use the Writing Process• Prewriting: Continue to brainstorm ideas, seek

more information or sources, and start to organize ideas into a plan.

• Drafting: You may discover that you need to go back to your plan and adjust it or gather more information as you write. When you have finished your draft, take at least one day off from writing before you begin to revise it.

• Revising: Does the organization and content seem sound? You may need to go back to rework your draft or even your plan.
