5C - WHAT ARE THE CHANCES OFTHE SHIP SNAPPING?CONSIDERATIONS WHEN USINGPROBABILISTIC ANALYSIS

In the April 2019 issue of NAFEMSBENCHMARK magazine, two challengeproblems are presented.

The first one consists of two normaldistributions, producing an analytical(theoretical) solution. The second onecontains several distributions (normal, uniform and lognormal), and therefore anexact solution is not available.

At the NAFEMS World Congress 2019 theseproblems were discussed and a fewsolutions were presented. In this specialsession at the UK Conference, thesesolutions and additional ones will bedeliberated in combination with thetheoretical background and the pitfalls ofthese methods.

4D - OPEN SPACES

‘Open Spaces’ is a way to enable everyoneattending the conference an opportunityto have their say and ask some poignantquestions.

Delegates will create their own parallelworking sessions around a central themeof strategic importance, such as:

• “How do I perform a successful non-linear analysis”

• “What is the future of linear elementsin FEA analysis?”

• “Bad geometry, do I mesh it or stop?”

• “I want all my analysts to have PSEcertification.”

• “Can I let non-specialists carry outadvanced analysis / what measuresshould I put in place?”

• It is hoped that the result of ‘openspaces’ is a powerful, effectiveconnecting and strengthening ofwhat’s already happening in theengineering analysis community, planning and action, learning anddoing.

6D - VMAP STANDARD (RELEASE 0.4.0) FOR SIMULATIONPROCESS INTEROPERABILITY

VMAP (vmap.eu.com), created via thealmost-complete ITEA-VMAP project, hasreleased a public version of the vendor-neutral standard for CAE data storage andtransfer to enhance interoperability invirtual engineering workflows. This openand free-to-use standard defines datastructures for geometry, discretization, material parameters, results and statevariables and includes a software library toread/write the VMAP data files; test casesare also provided. The standard issupported by a strong community made upof industrial and software companies andvendors, experts from academia, etc.

This workshop/discussion will present theVMAP release, current softwareimplementations, test and use cases andthe VMAP community. There will be ampletime for Q&A and enable participants todiscuss their simulation processrequirements, their data transfer, etc. withthe possibility of engaging in the creation offunctioning simulation processes.
