WRITING SKILLS IN KBSR SYLLABUS
Focus is on developing learners’ writing ability (word,phrase, sentence, composition)Attention is also paid to penmanship (print and cursivewriting)
Learners are taught the various writing steps and touse appropriate vocabulary and correct grammarAll learners are encouraged to write for differentpurposes and for different audiences.
By the end of their primary schooling, learners shouldbe able to write lists, messages, letters, instructions,directions, simple poems and stories, descriptions,simple recounts and simple reports for various
purposes.

WRITING SKILLS IN KSSR SYLLABUS
Back to basics - It is essential for teachers to beginwith basic literacy skills in order to build a strongfoundation of language skills. The strategy of phonics isintroduced in order to help learners begin to read anda good foundation in penmanship will help pupilsacquire good handwriting. Learning is fun, meaningful and purposeful. Lessons,which emphasise meaningful contexts and the
integration of language skills, allow learners to learn bydoing fun-filled activities. Contextualised as well aspurposeful activities will promote the fun element inlanguage learning.

SELECTING & PREPARING ACTIVITIES
Activities in a lesson plan should show connectednessand progress from easy to difficult - from modelledwriting to independent writing
The flow of the lesson plan should begin with Level 1before progressing into Level 2 and 3This is to ensure learners are able to grasp properunderstanding of the lesson and to successfully
achieve intended objectives.

GRADING & SEQUENCING
Teachers need to sequence their writing lessons insome logical order.Basically, at the earliest levels, a lesson may:
involve providing multiple and varied context for
practising handwriting and/or spelling,teaching and creating occasions for meaningfulpractice in punctuation,providing occasions for using what language theyhave for real communication.
At later phases the writing lessons could focus on theprocess involved in producing a written documentsuch as a letter or a story.
