Principal’s

Message

This week we are hosting our local state member

of parliament Philip Donato on Tuesday. Super 8’s

Cricket will be on Wednesday.

Last week, we had the privilege of hosting the

Deputy Prime Minister Mr Michael McCormack.

Mr McCormack spoke to students on assembly. I

thank Mr McCormack for making himself available

to our community. On Tuesday, our state

member Mr Phil Donato will visit to talk to

students and the community about issues within

his electorate. Members of parliament are paid to

serve the public. Therefore we are all entitled to

question their performance just as they are

entitled to question mine. I thank both members

for making themselves available.

Opportunities for employment for our students, I

believe, are affected by location and the cost of

travel. Consider the financial disadvantage our

students have if they gain employment in Parkes

but choose to live in Trundle. Six hundred

kilometres a week on an apprentices wage. This is

something I will be taking up with Mr Donato.

In some wonderful news, the P&C under the

expert guidance of Ms Hazel Walton has been

successful in securing a $60,000 grant for our new

bus. This will mean the school will have two buses

with a combined capacity of 35 seats. This will

significantly reduce the cost of excursions and

open up opportunities. I am hoping our existing 11

seat bus will serve us for another two years and

then we may be in a position to apply for a grant

to update it. Through our fundraising, the new 24

seat bus with all the extra tow bar, roo bar and

cocktail bar only cost the school $5000.

This week, our replacement computers will arrive.

This is enough to completely replace one

computer lab. In the 2020 school budget, I have

allocated funds to replace the other computer lab.

This will mean, by the end of first term, the school

will have all the latest computers giving our

students access to the best available in NSW

government schools. When I think of

infrastructure, I ask myself the question. If we

cannot afford the best available, is this the best we

can afford? I refuse to have our students sitting in

hot uncomfortable classrooms or using old

computers.

Many people have commented on how good the

school grounds are at this time. This is because of

the hard work and knowledge of Richard Grady.

This school has made considerable effort over the

last 5 years to improve the appearance and

comfort of this school, as well as improve facilities. The reason is simple. There is a

mountain of research that indicates student effort,

behaviour and well-being are positively enhanced

by the physical environment in which they learn.

Research also indicates that the appearance of the

school is one of the cheapest and most sustainable

ways of improving school spirit. I am one of the

best spenders of other people’s money on the

planet but I also read research into how students

learn or behave.

Last week, our school hosted ZDF Television

from Germany. These people were making a short

documentary on the difference between farm lives

in Germany compared to the Central West. I

thank the Randall and Charlton families for hosting

this crew. Australia was shown off at its finest to

these visitors with the exception of the thousands

of little black flies that are currently sticking to

every part of people’s faces. The school has

recently purchased a fly net for every student to

help make the playground a little more bearable.

The installation of our new air-conditioning is well

ahead of schedule. In my 28 years of being

involved with schools, I have never seen a more

professional company. Every person working for

this company is professional and dedicated to

completing the project on time and to a high

standard. I would also like to pay tribute to our staff and students as well. They have coped with

the disruption and noise without any complaints.

At least not to me anyway.

Guitar lessons are not part of the compulsory

curriculum.

Page 3 Term 4 Week 3

Guitar lessons are not part of the compulsory

curriculum. The school heavily subsidises these

lessons and as a result, only asks parents to pay $15

per term. This is less than the cost of a single

lesson in town. Unfortunately, if outstanding fees

are not paid I will be forced to remove children

from the program. I hate doing this because

children are suffering not the person responsible

for the fee, parents.

Last week, there was a very minor incident outside

the school involving a member of the public. Our

school practices for such incidents and our

procedures worked perfectly.

Happiest man in Trundle

Guitar fees are now due.

Kindergarten/Year 7 Transition This week will be the second week of

Kindergarten/Year 7 Transition sessions that will

run throughout the term.

This year the sessions will run from 8:55 – 11:30

for Preschoolers – Year 6.

This will allow the Pre-schoolers and Year 6 to

engage in some fantastic activities to ensure the

transition from both Preschool and Primary School

is a smooth and enjoyable experience.

All classes in primary will be moving up into the

next group for these sessions. It is a great way for

the students to practise being in a new class.

Sun Safe Policy This term is a No Hat No Play term. Students

MUST wear a wide brimmed hat. This means that if

they do not have a hat, they cannot participate in

any outdoor activities including lunch time play. We

keep a small selection of spare hats for those

students who accidently forget their hats. These

hats are washed regularly but are not to be used

every day by the same students. We will endeavour

to call parents to let them know their child has

forgotten their hat so that it can be found. Please

make sure you put your child’s name inside their hat.

Swimming For Sport Friday the 8th November will be our first swimming

for sport. We are reducing the size of our groups

by sending one group to the pool at 1:00pm. This

group will return to school at 2pm, have lunch and

return to class for half an hour.

Notes were sent home last week. Please return the

signed permission notes as soon as possible.

The second group will walk to the pool as per usual

and can be picked up at 3pm at the pool. Alternatively, if your child catches a bus home, they

will be picked up at the pool.

Please check your child’s note carefully. If there are

any changes to your child’s afternoon arrangements

during the swimming season, please call the front

office on 68921303.

Year 3-6 Excursion to Canberra All the arrangements for our Year 3-6 excursion to

Canberra on the 13th November are being finalised

over the next week.

The final payment for our Canberra excursion is

due as soon as possible.

There will be an invite to an information session

sent out this week. This information session will

provide the students and parents with a detailed

itinerary and provide all information regarding the

excursion.

Secondary

The last few week has been a little disrupted with

the new air conditioners being installed. However,

as always our students’ ability and willingness to

apply themselves to any situation and overcome

distractions so they can continue to learn has been

outstanding. Also as a very hot summer fast

approaches [is there any other kind in Australia?]

our little bit of pain will make for a big gain as we

will be learning in comfortable conditions no

matter what the weather!

Friday afternoon our assembly for Term 3

celebrated the many successes our students

achieved. As usual the number of students receiving Bronze and Silver awards was an

extremely pleasing acknowledgement on how well

our students are working at school. I would

particularly like to acknowledge Monique Morgan

and Nick Williams of the attainment of their Gold

Awards. To achieve this a student needs to be

consistently contributing to the positive culture of

our school as well as gaining many individual

awards. Well done! Thanks to Miss Rowlands for

her ongoing organisation of our welfare system.

Continuing in this light, this Thursday our Level 6

students will be in mufti as an award. Also today a

large number of students will be receiving and ice

block as acknowledgement of their attainment of

the higher levels of our system. Again our students

need to be congratulated for their ongoing

excellent behaviour.

Mrs Gray will be away for the next 3 weeks. Miss

Emily Price will be filling in for Mrs Gray and we

welcome her to our school.

On Wednesday we have our students participating

in Super 8’s Cricket. As usual we look forward to

hearing all about our students’ efforts and

achievements. Thanks to Mrs Morgan for her

organisation and Mr Southon and Miss Rowlands

for helping with supervision and transport on the

day.

Wednesday also sees the second day of transition.

Congratulations to our 2020 Year 7 cohort on the

start they made last week and also to the rest of

secondary for their mature and helpful approach to

the new secondary students.

Next week our Year 11 students will be partaking

in this term’s study days. A note with all

information about next week will be sent home

today with Year 11.

Year 7-10 examinations will be held in Week 5 and

6. If your child needs any extra support from

school, please contact us.

As always if you have any questions in regards to

secondary please contact me at school.

Have a great week

Trundle Junior Cricket

On Saturday the Trundle Juniors travelled to

Condobolin to play their first game of the season

against the Gilgais. Trundle won the toss and

elected to field taking early wickets but a 70 run

partnership from the Gilgais helped them to post a

formidable score of 129 runs.

In reply Trundle batted well, however found

themselves needing 8 runs an over to reach the

target. With the return of the retirees to the

crease, Paddy Williams and Sam Charlton

combined in a blistering partnership to steal the

game with 3 balls to spare to give the Trundle

Juniors a great winning start to the season.

Runs for Trundle: Paddy Williams 50 NO, Sam

Charlton 16 NO, Jim Ramsay 9, Blair MacDonald 5.

Wickets for Trundle: Blair MacDonald 2, Charlie

Anderson 1, Kayden
