Trnava

Trnava is one of the oldest towns in Slovakia. In Trnava there are a lot of churches and that‘s why Trnava is called the ‘Slovak Rome‘.

In the 17th century there were alchemy workshops and laboratories that were very mysterious places.

Alchemists used laboratory glass containers (retorts) for distillation.

The objectives of alchemists to turn metal into gold or to find the elixir of eternal youth made people very curious.

...That’s how stories were born.

The Black Cat of Trnava

In the 17th century there lived an old alchemist. He wanted to invent the elixir of eternal youth. His work was watched by a young man who was his assistant.

The alchemist didn’t allow him to do any experiments because it could have ended badly.

The assistant promised that he wouldn’t do anything stupid.

However, once he found himself alone in the laboratory. He forgot that he had made a promise to his master. He thought he could make the elixir of life. So he read something in the alchemy book and began to work.

When he finally finished, he drank the elixir and waited for the effect.

Suddenly, his hair and nails started to grow but his body began to shrink.

In the end, he turned into a black cat and escaped through the window.

If you ever see a black cat walking through the streets of Trnava, it will probably be the

alchemist’s naughty assistant.
