Luisa and Samantha, New Associates
TMA are pleased to announce our two new Associates: Luisa Vicente Martinez and Samantha Dean.
Luisa has been at TMA since 2008 and controls practice design quality and continuity.
She led the design for TMA’s Tokyo Metro competition entry which won an award for Design Excellence, and is currently working on the designs for a brand new station for Winsor Link Railway.
Past projects include work on Lewisham Station, West Brompton and step-free access for Hanwell Station.
Samantha, finalist in the Women in Construction and Engineering Awards 2017, has been with TMA for ten years. She controls the suite of Practice Management Systems and manages new business opportunities for TMA.
Currently leading the design for Elephant and Castle Station for the Atkins TfL Bakerloo Line Extension, as well as working on with Fairhurst for the Farringdon Sidings SWIP Project.
Past projects worked on include outer stations on Crossrail, Walbrook at Bank, due to open in May 2018, and Greenford Station’s Incline lift.
New People on the Team
We have had two new colleagues join us and TMA wants to welcome them.
Both are eager to learn more about the infrastructure sector and are keen to establish themselves within the practice.
Bakerloo Line Extension
After many years of hard work, Transport for London has finished its second round of consultation for the Bakerloo Line Extension.
The consulted route will begin at Elephant & Castle and follow the Old Kent Road and terminate at Lewisham with the potential for future expansion to other areas of south-east London.
TMA is part of the Atkins team delivering the next stage of the project. The team is designing the ‘Best Railway’ and ensuring that the designs are developed with the results of the TfL 2017 Consultation.
The latest proposals will build on previous public feedback; provide an TfL service to currently unserved areas; create new housing and urban intensification opportunities; and define a new and significant milestone for this ambitious project.
We are delighted to see this positive step towards the development of the underground network in some of the more sparsely populated areas of south east London.
TMA People Stations
The Team visits Walbrook, Bank
TMA are very excited about the opening of the Walbrook New Station Entrance, which is due Spring 2018. As the project nears completion it was good opportunity to go back and examine how our design has been developed by London
Giulia Giansante
Giulia gained her qualifications in “La Sapienza” University of Rome. She is a creative and enthusiastic architect who has, for the past 3 years, been working on residential and retail projects in Italy, France and the UK, as well as being involved in a variety of architectural competitions.
Mustafa Tekman
Another new addition to the TMA team is Mustafa who has a passion for drawing, and comes to us after working in the residential sector for a number of years. He has also been involved in larger social projects, such as supporting local architects in providing beautiful designs for places of worship and theatres.
Bond Street
Comparing the Bond Street Station’s new entrance scheme done by TMA in 2006 and the current newly opened scheme we can conclude that just few minor changes have been made since our initial references designs.
The diagram shows how the station circulation works and how the spaces happen on a sequence from Ticket Hall to Platform.
In the pictures we can appreciate the new finishes, and how the spaces relate to that same sequence.
AA
Underground and Hochtief. It is a proud and humbling experience to see our designs being brought to life, and it certainly highlights how important BIM construction can be on complex projects. Roll on the opening in Spring 2018......

Cultural Activities
Continuing with our weekly cultural walk, and encouraging our new colleagues to join us on this tradition, we have been visiting exhibitions and buildings as part of our ongoing search for new inspiration.
The Open House Festival is a prime example of these fascinating points of view from stations and places, as we can see from the image of St Pancras Station taken from the clock Tower.
The Scalpel
The TMA team attended a masterclass lesson, on the construction of a new presence in London’s distinguished and dynamic skyline, by the Construction Director himself Christopher Dean.
We were all amazed not only by the privileged location but also the design, smart shape and the technology used in current construction and future efficiency of the building.
We’ll be back next year to see it completed.
Asides
Liverpool Street
Jayne and Tony had the opportunity to visit the new Crossrail station in Liverpool Street, experiencing the majesty and flexibility of construction that the spray concrete tunnels offer.
Some of the geometrical designed finishes on the ceiling and walls were already visible in the passenger areas, and the station looks closer than ever to being open to the public in 2018.
