Dear Mary Star of the Sea Parishioners, Today we celebrate the Great Solemnity of Christ the King. We must truly attempt to let Christ rule our hearts, our minds, our bodies and our souls. He is the Way, the Truth, and the Life. Our truest path to Salvation. Let us continue to pray for one another as we end this Liturgical year and begin anew on the first Sunday of Advent praying that the light of Christ the King will shine in our families, our country and throughout our world. As we begin the new liturgical year, I thought it would be helpful to give a “State of the Parish” report on all the wonderful things that are taking place here at Mary Star of the Sea. Have a blessed week.

Fr. Harrigan Pastor Religious Education We are blessed to have Sister Mary running our Religious Education/ R.C.I.A program. The numbers for the children’s Religious Education program are the highest they have been in several years. We have 222 children participating this year. We have an excellent team of teachers and support ensuring that our young people are receiving a proper and thorough Catholic Instruction. Many of these young people will be receiving Sacraments throughout this new year, please keep them all in your prayers. In our Catholic convert program R.C.I.A we have several adults participating in formation with the hope that they will be received in the Church this year at Easter. Please keep these adults in your prayers and Masses as they continue to explore the fullness of our Christian Faith. Schools At Mary Star of the Sea High School, we are blessed to have an extremely dedicated faculty and staff under the leadership of Ms. Dever and Fr. Nicholas. Through their tireless efforts we continue to see growth in enrollment, we continue to pay off our annual debt ensuring the financial stability of the school. In keeping with our Catholic mission, we gave 1.4 million dollars in scholarships to those who need them to attend our Catholic school. At the elementary school we are very excited to welcome Fr. Benedict, as our new Rector, who will assist Mrs. Maricich, the principal in continuing to increase enrollment, build a financial foundation for scholarships and identify curricular areas for growth. Both of our excellent schools continue to serve the youth who are the future of the church, our society and the world. Confirmation/Youth Program We are very excited with our new Confirmation/ Youth program here at Mary Star of the Sea. We have close to 250 students participating in the Confirmation program both from public schools and our own high school. All of the teachers this year are high school teachers and priests ensuring that the students are receiving the highest quality of formation possible. Our Youth program, under the auspice of Knights of Columbus and Dr. Dever from the high school, has 60 young Squires and 60 young Roses. We have also begun a new Young Adult program in the parish which continues to grow and hopefully will attract young adults throughout San Pedro. Property Improvements Thanks to all parishioners and their great generosity we have made tremendous progress improving and beautifying the plant here at Mary Star. This past year we have improved the following: completed the protection of the stained glass windows project; we have begun replacing the padding of the kneelers; we have installed security gates and security cameras throughout the entire property; we have hired a security team who patrols the campus from evening to morning; we have painted several portions of the parish center, old high school and elementary school; we have upgraded the air conditioners in the Church, Convent and Rectory; all the trees of the property have been groomed and trimmed; we have installed high speed internet at the school. religious education and rectory; and have repaired the elevator in the parish center. Without your continued support and generosity none of these projects would have been possible. I thank you from the bottom of my heart. Parish Groups Our parish is so blessed to have close to 35 parish groups who support the mission and vision of our Catholic Identity. These groups are involved in every facet of parish life here at Mary Star of the Sea. They are always happy to welcome new members. If you are interested in learning more about the groups and what they do please see the back of the bulletin. We thank all of you for your tireless service and generosity to our parish.

Holy Hour

In order to convert America and save the world what we need is for every parish to come before Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament in

Holy Hours of prayer (St. Mother Teresa) Every Wednesday at 6:00 p.m. there is a Eucharistic Holy Hour

in our church. The Holy Hour begins with exposition of The Blessed Sacrament. Within the hour, there are readings from

Sacred Scripture and the saints, time for silent reflection, and the Chaplet of Divine Mercy. The Holy Hour concludes with

Benediction. Please come and spend one hour with Jesus. This is a special time of abundant blessings for all!

Thanksgiving Day Prayer Loving God, Who created and sustains the universe, who loved us all into being, and who give us every good thing, we thank you for the blessings that you bring into our lives. We thank you for the gift of life itself, which you gave us in our mothers’ wombs. We thank you for the fresh start of each new day, which is a sign your renewing and creative love. And we thank you for our friends, our families, our neighbors and our coworkers, whose human love is an image of your divine care. Increase our gratitude this Thanksgiving Day, and help us to recognize all the good things that we have, both large and small. And magnify our desire to shat what we have with others, so that they too may be grateful to you, loving God. Amen.
