Coursedescription:This course aims to develop academic written skills by means of critical analysis ofacademictexts.Relatedreadingswillcomefromtherelevantliteratureinvariouswayssuch as academic books and journals which enable learners to develop and increasevocabularyinanacademiccontextwiththehopeofcontributingtotheirwritingskills.Withinthisperspective,thiscoursemainlyencourageslearnerstowriteacademictexts.Learnerswill have theopportunity of benefiting from scaffolding throughdigital peerfeedbackexchangeontheirwrittenassignments.Learnersareexpectedtoanalyseandproduce essays considering the organization, coherence, cohesion, unity, vocabularyselection,in-textcitationsrulesincludingquoting,paraphrasing,andsummarizingasthiscourseaimstoteachacademicwritingtostudentswhoneedtopresentanddefendtheirownpointsofviewclearlyandpersuasively.Studentsalsoworktomasterthenormsofin-text citationsandattributingdata fromprintandothersources,and toobserve themethodsofacknowledgingtheresearchfindingsofothers,specificallyintheAPAstyle.Teachingmethod: Lectures,extensivereading,peer-review.Prerequisites: Advancedreadingcomprehensionskillsandproficiencyininformal

Assessmentmethod:GoodnewsJ There are nopen andpaper tests for this course.However, it does notnecessarilymean thatyouwillpasswithoutanyefforts.During the term,youneed tosubmit3writtenassignmentsatanaveragelengthof600wordsforeach.Inaddition,youalsoneedtoexchangefeedbackwith3peersthatareassignedbythelecturer.Foreachassignment,youareexpectedtoreviseyourpaperbythehelpofthepeerfeedbackthatyouretrieveandsubmit itasarevisionassignment.Pleaserememberthatallrevisionassignmentsneedtobesubmitteddigitallybothwithandwithouttracksofchanges.Theprocess of submitting assignments and exchanging peer feedback will be managedthroughTurnitin.Hard-copyoremailsubmissionswillnotbetakenintoconsideration.Scoresretrievedfrompeerreviewtaskswillfunctionasmid-termexaminationandhavetheweight of 40%whereas scores retrieved fromwriting taskswill function as finalexaminationandhavetheweightof60%.Attendancepolicy:Youneedtoreadrelatedchaptersbeforetheclass.Attendancewillbetakenandrecordedinallclasssessions.Youneedtoattend70%ofthelecturesotherwiseyouautomaticallyfail.Plagiarismpolicy:Eitheraccidentalorintentional,thereisnotoleranceforplagiarism.YouneedtosubmitallyourassignmentsthroughTurnitinandasthelecturerIwilldeterminetheoriginalityof your assignments by checking them against plagiarism.
