University of Miami CaneLink Training Version 1.00 Selecting Cognates To select cognates: Entering the cognate on the student program/plan page: 1. Log into the portal at http://canelink.miami.edu 2. On the Admin Home tab, using the Main Menu navigation at the top of the page, navigate to Records and Enrollment > Career and Program Information > Student Program/Plan 3. Enter the student’s emplID in the ID field or enter the Last Name and First Name. 4. Select the Include History checkbox. 5. Click Search. 6. The most recent program action is displayed. You can use the row count at the top right corner to view past rows. 7. Click the Add a New Value ( ) icon. The Effective Date will default to today’s date. 8. In the Program Action field, enter PLNC. 9. Click the Student Plan tab. 10.Click the Add a New Value ( ) icon. 11. In the Plan Code field, enter the plan code for the cognate or use the magnifying glass to find the code. 12.Enter additional plans using the Add a New Row icon again. 13. You can use the View All link to view all current plans. 14. Click Save. Proceed to the next page. 9 8 10 7 11 13

To select cognates:

Entering the cognate on the student program/plan page:

1. Log into the portal at http://canelink.miami.edu

Selecting Cognates

     

   

 

Selecting the cognate on the Student Milestones page:

1. Using the Main Menu navigation at the top of the page, navigate to Records and Enrollment > Enroll Students > Student Milestones

2. If the student’s ID does not carry into the search page, enter the student’s emplID in the ID field or enter the Last Name and First Name.

3. Select the Include History checkbox.

4. Click Search.

5. Click the Add a New Row ( ) icon next to the Milestone Copy button. The Effective Date should be today’s date.

6. Note that on the new effective dated row, cognate information from the previous row will fill into the previous fields.

7. Set the Milestone Level to Selected. Once the cognate is set to Selected it will appear on the Academic Advisement Report.

8. In the Academic Plan field, use the magnifying glass to select the plan code that will fulfill this cognate. This can be either one of the student’s existing codes.

9. If you are entering information for all 3 cognates, use the Next arrow on the Milestone Detail group box to scroll through each additional cognate and enter the information as you did above.

10. Click Save.
