    In the UPSR examination, pupils are exposed to various types of textsuch as narrative, descriptive, factual, announcement, advertisement, rule

    and regulations, formal and informal letter, TV guide, plans, programme

    summary, news report, notice, dialogue, diary, comic, message, chart,

    poem, speech, diagram, poster ,

    timetable, invitation and so on.

    Each passage is followed by multiple choice questions from which the

    pupils may cultivate the skills of recalling, relating the sequence of events

    and ideas, making inferences, predicting outcomes, drawing conclusions

    and also testing thinking skills.

    TIPS TO ANSWER ON COMPREHENSION QUESTIONS 31-40

    1. First read through the five questions given.

    2. Then read the passage once to get an overall idea of what it is all about. The picturebeside the passage will give you a clue.

    3. Read it again. This time slowly and carefully.

    4. Read each question carefully.

    5. Read all the alternatives given before choosing the correct answer.

    6. Refer to the portion of the passage which is related to each question. Look out for

    clues which will help you to arrive at the correct answer.7. The questions usually follow the development of the passage. The answer to the first

    question is found in the paragraphs that are before the paragraph which contains the

    answer to the second question and so on.

    8. You should therefore work through the questions progressively. In this way, you wont

    wasting time going through the whole passage each time to look for the answer.

    9. If you are not sure of the answer to a question, skip the question and come back to

    it when you have finished answering the other questions.

    10. If you cannot answer a question, you should :

    a) Read the question and four alternatives again carefully.

    b) Check the passage again for the answer.

    c) Then cross out the answers that you know are definitely wrong.

    d) Choose the best or closest answers from the remaining answers.

    11. Always remember to check your answers before you hand them over.
