San Jose Christian School A love for God. A desire to learn. A commitment to serve. Monday, April 29, 2013 SJCS SPRING AUCTION - SATURDAY, MAY 4 TICKETS AVAILABLE IN THE OFFICE! From the Office April Board Summary On April 22, the Board of Trustees held its monthly meeting, which featured continued review of this year, along with discussions about next year. The group was blessed to hear from two teachers—Mrs. Baham and Mrs. Nelson—about their experiences dur- ing 2012-13, and once again we are re- minded of the tremendous blessing that our high-quality staff is to the students of SJCS. Not only do our faculty members provide excellent academic teaching, they also serve as mentors and life-shapers for our students, guiding them down the paths that the Lord has laid out for them. Next year’s budget was reviewed and ap- proved, and the SJCS Association will now receive that budget for approval at the an- nual business meeting on Monday, May 13. The trustees discussed admissions standards and “mission-fit” for families inquiring about our preschool and our JK-8 classes, and we continue to do serious thinking about how to best serve the school and ex- pand its impact. The coming year has many exciting opportunities in store for SJCS, and we are blessed to be a part of this wonderful school. No Parking on the Red Curb When bringing your students to school please do not park at the curb and leave your vehicle. When cars are left unat- tended it negatively affects the drop off process and impacts the arrival time for all of our students. Field Day is a Mandatory School Day! GrandFriends Day is coming to SJCS on Friday, May 10. We look forward to a fun- filled morning as those programs unfold for our visitors. In a long-standing school tra- dition, the day concludes with Field Day, an afternoon of team contests that forges bonds of friendship and school unity across the grade levels. We would like to remind all of our families that Field Day is considered a part of the normal school day, and it should not be viewed as an optional activity or a chance to get an early start on the weekend. We appreciate your support in making school activities a priority for your students and your families. Upcoming Events Grand “Friends” Day May 10 is the SJCS Grand “Friends” Day Celebration. Each student is encouraged to invite a grandparent, family member, or friend to campus to participate in the day’s events. Flyers are available in the school office and on the school website. School NewsJoin the SJCS Association TodayEach May, the SJCS Association holds its annual business meeting to hear about the past year, approve the budget for the com-ing year, and vote new trustees onto the board. The upcoming meeting is on Mon-day, May 13 at 7pm in the Auditorium. The Association is the highest level of authority over the school, and you can be a part of it. Membership requires you to sign off on our school’s statement of faith and pay $10 in dues each year.

Our governance structure is set up so that teachers answer to the administration, the administration answers to the board of trus-tees, and the board answers to the Associa-tion. That is why SJCS is characterized as a parent-run school, and it is part of what helps create the sense of ownership and community here. Current parents, past parents, employees, and any adults who care about SJCS are eligible to become members. We hope you consider joining the SJCS Association today! If you have any questions regarding the Association, please contact the school office.
