On May 30 th Nebraska Public Power will have a planned power outage to perform scheduled maintenance on the power lines that supply elec- tricity to an area south of McCook which includes McCook’s Water Treatment Plant and seven of the city’s nine water wells. Due to the power outage the Water Department will be operating on a very limited supply of water. Therefore, lawn watering and other outside activities requiring water will not be allowed on May 30th from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. The City of McCook apologizes for any inconven- ience this may cause. The public’s assistance is greatly appreciated during this time. NEW EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR HIRED Jessica Bortner, RN, BSN, MBA, was hired as the Community Hospital Health Foundation Executive Director, according to Troy Bruntz, Com- munity Hospital President and CEO. Her duties begin May 29. Bortner is replacing Terri Shipshock, who retires in June. “Jessica brings an enthusiasm with her that is very exciting for us at Community Hospital and Community Hospital Health Foundation,” Bruntz said. “We look forward to her rejoining our staff. Her healthcare background and strong leadership, business and communication skills will help to con- tinue the mission of the health foundation.” A native of Oklahoma, McCook has been home to Bortner since 1997, where she and her husband, Heath own and operate a farm/ranch north of town. They have a son, Charlie, 13. She worked at Community Hospital beginning in 2000, providing patient care as a registered nurse. From 2001- 2010, she oversaw the performance improvement program at the hospital, beginning as a coordinator and working up to performance improvement director. She also served as the corporate compliance officer. During her time at Community Hospital, she revised the per- formance improvement program to include a process based manage- ment system linked to the hospital’s balanced score card. BOARD OF GOVERNORS HEARD REPORT The Mid-Plains Community College Board of Governors heard a re- port from MPCC President Ryan Purdy regarding local, state and national activities. Mike Steele, area vice president of administrative services, reported that Trent Wiese has been named the interim direc- tor of information systems. Andy Long, area vice president of student affairs and MCC, bid farewell to the Board. Long will take over as the executive director of the McCook Economic Development Corpo- ration. His last day at the college will be June 1. The Board ap- proved a 2.33 percent package increase for administration (excluding the college president), which is same as the weighted aver- age of the negotiated faculty salary increase. As part of the same motion, a 38-cent per hour increase was approved for classified staff. The package for both groups includes a 0.5 percent increase in the TIAA-CREF retirement match for full-time non-negotiated employ- ees.
