But as the snow recedes, it reveals a nasty secret … a winter load of garbage! Luckily every year, the City, residents, and local businesses join hands for the annual Spring Into Clean event that attacks the winter grime and returns Barrie to its natural beauty. For its ninth year, Barrie’s“Spring Into Clean”is springing into action this April 16th – 17th. The annual community event was first initiated in partnership with Tim Hortons, not only to clean-up public spaces across the City, but also to raise everyone’s environmental awareness and social responsibility through lending a hand. “Each year, we see an increase in registrations for Barrie’s Spring into Clean from all sectors, which is encouraging. It means Barrie has a strong sense of civic pride and is developing long-term working relationships between government, the media, industry and the public to promote environmental sustainability,”says Spring Into Clean Project Coordinator Annette Hines. Residents can participate in four ways: Students and faculty can collect litter on school property and any adjacent parkland on Student Participation Day; Barrie residents can participate in the Waterfront Clean-up Day and the Spring into Clean weekend where they sweep through their neighborhoods and local parks; Finally, businesses can form teams and register for the Corporate Challenge tackling parks, ravines, or trails. “Last year, we had 250 volunteers at the Waterfront, 50 community groups, and over 22,000 students from 52 schools. In total, we cleaned 8,000 kg of debris!” exclaimed Hines. Despite the great turn-out, Hines encourages more businesses to get involved. Likewise, additional residents are always welcomed. She also stresses that“Spring Into Clean”targets public spaces only, and not private properties, which is the owner’s responsibility. This year, participants must register online. Here’s how you can join the “Spring Into Clean”event and help beat last year’s participation numbers: Student Participation Day Thursday, April 15th Elementary and High Schools must register no later than April 1st online at www.barrie.ca. Needed information includes: • The number of students participating (garbage bags and gloves are provided) • School name, address and phone number • The area you intend to clean (school yard and/or adjacent park) • The curbside location for collection • Contact name and information Community “Spring into Clean” Days Saturday April 16th and Sunday April 17th Residents must register online at www.barrie.ca by April 8th. Once you have registered, you will be contacted for supplies and collection arrangements. Waterfront Clean-Up Day Saturday April 16th Volunteers will help clean the downtown and waterfront area. No pre-registration is required. Just show-up and sign-up at the Lion’s Pavilion in Centennial Park between 9:30AM and 10:00AM. Garbage bags and gloves are provided. Corporate Challenge Days Friday, April 15th to Sunday, April 17th Businesses must register online at www.barrie.ca by April 8th. Once registered, you will be contacted for supplies and collection arrangements. Just like previous years, Barrie and its partners will be assisting participants by providing garbage bags and gloves. The Corporation of the City of Barrie’s

2011 Business Plan (tax rate based

operating, user rate based operating and

capital budgets) will be presented to

General Committee on March 28, 2011 at

approximately 7:00 p.m. It is anticipated

that the recommended motion will be

considered by Council on April 4, 2011.

By-laws required to implement the

2011 Business Plan would be presented

at a subsequent Council meeting(s).

The 2011 Business Plan also contains

recommendations with respect to

changes to user fees for services, products

and goods provided by the City of Barrie.

A copy of the 2011 Business Plan and

Budget is available for review in the

following locations during normal

business hours:

Spring has definitely sprung, blowing in the warmer weather that carries with it the promise of summer. But as the snow recedes, it reveals a

nasty secret … a winter load of garbage! Luckily every year, the City, residents, and local businesses join hands for the annual Spring Into Clean event that attacks the winter grime and returns Barrie to its natural beauty.

Foritsninthyear,Barrie’s“SpringIntoClean”isspringing into action this April 16th – 17th. The annual community event was first initiated in partnership with Tim Hortons, not only to clean-up public spaces across the City, but also to raise everyone’s environmental awareness and social responsibility through lending a hand.

“Each year, we see an increase in registrations for Barrie’s Spring into Clean from all sectors, which is encouraging. It means Barrie has a strong sense of civic pride and is developing long-term working relationships between government, the media, industry and the public to promote environmental sustainability,”saysSpringIntoCleanProjectCoordinator Annette Hines.

Residents can participate in four ways: Students and faculty can collect litter on school property and any adjacent parkland on Student Participation Day; Barrie residents can participate in the Waterfront Clean-up Day and the Spring into Clean weekend where they sweep through their neighborhoods and local parks; Finally, businesses can form teams and register for the Corporate Challenge tackling parks, ravines, or trails.

“Last year, we had 250 volunteers at the Waterfront, 50 community groups, and over 22,000 students from 52schools.Intotal,wecleaned8,000kgofdebris!”exclaimedHines.

Despite the great turn-out, Hines encourages more businesses to get involved. Likewise, additional residents are always welcomed. She also stressesthat“SpringIntoClean”targetspublicspaces only, and not private properties, which is the owner’s responsibility.

This year, participants must register online. Here’s how youcanjointhe“SpringIntoClean”eventandhelpbeatlast year’s participation numbers:

Student Participation DayThursday, April 15th Elementary and High Schools must register no later than April 1st online at www.barrie.ca. Needed information includes:

• Thenumberofstudentsparticipating(garbagebags and gloves are provided)

• Schoolname,addressandphonenumber

• Theareayouintendtoclean(schoolyardand/or adjacent park)

• Thecurbsidelocationforcollection

• Contactnameandinformation

Community “Spring into Clean” DaysSaturday April 16th and Sunday April 17th Residents must register online at www.barrie.ca by

April 8th. Once you have registered, you will be contacted for supplies and collection arrangements.

Waterfront Clean-Up DaySaturday April 16thVolunteers will help clean the downtown and waterfront area. No pre-registration is required. Just show-up and sign-up at the Lion’s Pavilion in Centennial Park between 9:30AM and 10:00AM. Garbage bags and gloves are provided.

Corporate Challenge DaysFriday, April 15th to Sunday, April 17th Businesses must register online at www.barrie.ca by April 8th. Once registered, you will be contacted for supplies and collection arrangements.

Just like previous years, Barrie and its partners will be assisting participants by providing garbage bags and gloves. BFI Waste Systems are donating the collection service. For more information, please visit www.barrie.ca.
