The hot- off- the- presses Guide delivered to Barrie homes on Thursday November 25th in the complementary Barrie Examiner will not only sport a new look but will list regular winter favorites as well as tons of new programs. With all of the new exciting additions, something is bound to catch your eye. Read below for a quick snapshot of some of the programs that await you this Winter: • Preschool Children (up to ages of 5 yrs.) Little ones can create in Paint and Play Mondays; or explore rhythm and movement, and experience the use of voice, body, and simple instruments to develop musical skills in the Preschoo Music program. • Youth Music (7- 16 yrs.) Kids who dream of playing the guitar can start with Guitar Hero, a program that teaches to play riffs from the video game onto their guitar. Alternatively, Guitar Reading will teach them music notes on the guitar clef as well as some picking and fingering exercises.

• Adult Mind, Body & Spirit. We also offer a slew of new well-being programs. Here is a small sample of a few available this winter: Angels & Oracle Cards, Eat-Pray-Love, Guided Meditation Series, Eating Organic - You Are What You Eat, and Snowshoe Interpretive Hiking. • 55+. For our more mature population, we have added Gentle Pilates Stretch Out; Zumba and Tone, cardio and toning to the Latin beat; and Crafty Gals, the perfect class where you get together with others who love doing a variety of crafts. As always, residents who regularly drop-in for fitness, public swimming, and public skating can save money by purchasing a membership pass. Huronia Road (Yonge Street to Lockhart Road) Transportation Improvements Schedule “C” Municipal Class Environmental Assessment

(Class EA)

The Corporation of the City of Barrie hereby notifies all interested individuals and parties, that a Public Information Centre will be held on Thursday, November 25, 2010, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the City of Barrie in the Huronia Room “A” located on the 2nd Floor, City Hall, 70 Collier Street, to receive comments regarding proposed alternative design solutions. These comments will be used to develop a Preferred Alternative Design Solution. The purpose of this Class EA is to:

• Assess the existing transportation system in and adjacent to the study area;• Identify deficiencies to the existing transportation system;• Identify the location, extent, and sensitivity of the existing natural, social, heritage and economic environment within the study area;• Establish appropriate measures required to mitigate any adverse impacts to property and the natural, social, heritage and economic environment resulting from proposed transportation improvements; and• Provide a conceptual design, cost estimates, and sequencing requirements associated with the proposed alternative design solutions.

The City of Barrie is updating Phase 2 of the Schedule “C” project in the Municipal Class EA (October, 2000, as amended in 2007). The Corporation has retained the consulting firm Morrison Hershfield to develop/evaluate alternative solutions, recommend a Preferred Alternative Solution and document the entire Class EA planning process in a report.

A copy of the draft ESR document outlining the planning, approval, problem identification, and preliminary impact assessments of the various alternatives is available for review at the following locations and on line at www.barrie.ca:

the hours of 3 a.m. and 6 a.m.

ticketed and/or towed.

UPDATE OF THE HOTCHKISS CREEK WATERSHED MASTER

DRAINAGE PLANThe Corporation of the City of Barrie is planning to engage the services of a consulting engineering firm to undertake the Municipal Class EA component of the Updated Hotchkiss Creek Watershed Master Drainage Plan. The consultant will utilize updated hydrologic and hydraulic modeling recently completed for the City. The consultant will review the previous 2000 Municipal Class EA, update the report and alternatives as well as document the preparation & coordination of the consultation process in compliance with the Municipal Class Environmental Assessment process.

Community Garden Plot Rentals Begins December 1

Garden Plot rentals are now open for the Sunnidale Community Garden, located along Coulter Street. Choose between an individual plot (1.5m x 4.5m) or the Community Plot (recommended for beginners who want to learn more about gardening). Gardeners sign a short rental contract along with the $22.60 rental fee (includes HST) for the 2011 season. Please note gardeners are responsible for their own water supply. You can pick up a Community Garden Policy, Rental Contract and garden location at City Hall on the 6th floor, reception desk or get it online at www.barrie.ca or call (705) 739-4207 for more information.
