Dear Oxford Friends and Associates,

As we welcome in a new year, it is often customary to refl ect on where we have been and what we have achieved. This year, however, I would like to begin with WHY Oxford. In his

book, Start with Why, bestselling author, Simon Sinek, says it is not what you do or how you do it, but rather WHY you do what you do that is important.

At Oxford Financial Group, Ltd., doing what’s best for you is at the heart of what we do each day. We believe that the stewardship of your legacy requires passion, an alignment of interests and inspired solutions, which are customized to your unique situation. Your success is our only objective.

Whether it is estate, tax, cash fl ow, retirement, legacy or philanthropic planning, we work closely with you to understand your personal and fi nancial goals. Then we implement a carefully constructed plan to get you there. It is an approach that is deeply rooted in forging enduring relationships with our clients.

The foundations, endowments and other institutional clients we work with tell us that two of the qualities they value most about us are our total objectivity and our broad reach. Oxford has served as a co-fi duciary investment advisor to retirement plan committees for more than 20 years. We supervise over $22 billion in client assets in total across our institutional and high-net-worth client practices.

Our commitment to enhancing the lives of others is evident in our philanthropic efforts. Oxford fosters a strong culture of giving back to our community both as a fi rm and among individual associates. As you’ll read in the following pages, our employees donate time

and professional expertise toa variety of local and global not-for-profi t organizations.

Ensuring our clients receive the best fi nancial advice requires access to the brightest minds in the business. Today, we have 43 individuals in the fi rm with over 74 designations, including 21 individuals with a CFP certifi cation, 9 with a CFA certifi cation and 13 with an MBA. All of this equates to exceptional advice. This year’s report features many of these associates. You will read how they apply their expertise to uncover compelling ideas and opportunities for clients.

Over the last 12 months, we’ve continued to strengthen our team with the addition of the following individuals:

• In Cincinnati—Managing Director T. Michael Veith and Client Relationship Manager Donna S. Sterwerf

• In Chicago—Managing Director Thomas G. Kloster

• In Indianapolis—Managing Director and Oxford Investment Fellow Bryan D. Dunnivant

• In Indianapolis—Director of Family Offi ce Services and The Trust Company of Oxford Julia S. Weaver

At Oxford, we recognize the importance of innovation and product development in helping clients meet their ever-changing fi nancial needs. In 2015, we launched Regent Street, an offering which allows clients access to unique investment opportunities. Regent Street investments are aspirational in nature and provide our clients additional return opportunities with a measured amount of risk. In addition, we created Swindon Transition Counsel, a service that provides support for our business owner clients who are looking to transition ownership or management of their business.

Small enough to deliver highly customized support and large enough to access leading investment talent around the globe, Oxford strives to be the premier registered investment adviser (RIA) in the Midwest, and one of the top three companies of our kind in every market that we serve. We operate with a commitment to personal service delivered by professionals who share one passion—your success.

Thank you for giving us the opportunity to serve you.

KIC-IT is an organization that helps teens and young adults ages 16-25 who are

in crisis. It provides everything from a safe place to sleep for those living on their own to the resources they need to get back on their feet. KIC-IT focuses on “helping youth help themselves.” Holding them accountable for their actions gives them the independence and support they need to become successful adults.

I volunteer as a life coach at KIC-IT’s drop-in center. This involves meeting one-on-one with kids to help support their goals, create a budget or provide them with contacts to fi nd an apartment. I help them establish goals and I follow up to check on progress.

What I enjoy most about volunteering is the interpersonal aspect—promoting fi nancial responsibility across the community. It doesn’t take much to make a difference in someone’s life—a hot meal, a ride to a job interview or just some one-on-one guidance. If we can equip youth with the skills they need to feel empowered and self-suffi cient, they’ll have the means to lead meaningful, independent lives.

At Oxford, we work closely with our clients to help them build an effective fi nancial strategy. It’s only natural that I’m volunteering for an organization that helps youth establish the fi nancial skills they need to succeed in life. Working with KIC-IT gives me the opportunity to serve my community and shows that when we work together, we can foster change.

Collaboration fosters better ideas

From terminology to tax code, it can be challenging to navigate the complexities of the fi nancial

world. At Oxford, we bring together a team of professionals to integrate fi nancial planning and investing with taxation and regulation. The result is a highly cohesive strategy that blends sound advice, transparency and the fl exibility to meet a family’s unique objectives.

We are often viewed as a family’s Chief Financial Offi cer, coordinating your tax, charitable giving and estate planning needs. The knowledge and expertise a CPA imparts helps clients feel confi dent that their short- and long-term goals are being properly executed. As someone with a strong tax background, my goal is to help families feel fi nancially connected to that process—we work with you every step of the way, so you’ll worry less about your fi nancial future.

We build strong, enduring relationships with clients. We consult with them on

tax issues and opportunities year round, not just during tax season. And, because we stay current on evolving legislation and tax law changes, we look for opportunities where taxes or tax exposure could be reduced, for example, improving the after-tax performance of portfolios. In fact, we are one of a small number of fi rms that can provide this level of support.

My CPA background allows me to evaluate the impact of capital gains, explore charitable contributions of stock or establish certain tax strategies, depending on the needs of the client. It adds a level of depth not found working solely with a fi nancial advisor.

Working directly with a client’s tax accountant, we ensure deadlines are met and weigh the pros and cons of various tax scenarios. The knowledge and exchange of ideas we gain from working with other CPAs helps us stay on top of changing trends and identify more advanced strategies—resulting in higher-level planning ideas for our clients.

TOFF.HD—proactive, professional planning

TOFF.HD is a service designed for multi-generational families who want to create and

maintain a lasting fi nancial legacy. It involves a deep, thoughtful review of a multi-generational family’s trust documents designed to create a structure that will live and function well for current and future generations. Our approach is rooted in getting to know our clients and understanding what’s important to them. This, in turn, supports the depth of trust planning we provide and ultimately, how we execute those plans.

Often, clients come to us with several trusts created by multiple generations over many years with different advisors. Our goal is to ensure this complex structure is aligned with the family’s overall philosophy. It involves analyzing the trust structure, governance, power holders and potential tax

implications as well as the timing of required distributions and accessibility to additional funds. Our process seeks to add consistency and fl exibility, while identifying potential challenges. Planning to mitigate future complications allows the family to utilize the assets to appropriately benefi t the various generations in a way that enhances each individual’s potential and the family legacy.

TOFF.HD brings together a team of professionals who are uniquely qualifi ed to support multi-generational families. The Family Offi ce Service team leverages my CPA background and experience in tax, trust and wealth transfer issues to create a coordinated approach to planning. The ability to “speak their language” adds a layer of credibility with outside professionals—ensuring a more cohesive, effi cient approach.

I have been a patron of the Grand Rapids Civic Theatre—the fi fth largest civic theatre in the

country—for roughly three decades. I have fond memories of attending the theatre as a child, and today, I bring my own family.

The Civic Theatre depends upon the fi nancial support of businesses and individuals. But, it also relies on the hands-on support of local professionals. Community artists, operations, fi nancial, media and technical experts dedicate their time to ensuring theatrical excellence at an affordable price.

My volunteer work has ranged from sewing buttons on costumes to serving on board and committee positions. For seven years, I served on the Board of Directors and the Development Committee, securing annual and corporate donors. Today, I am a member

of the Endowment Board, where I help oversee funds to support a self-suffi cient theatre.

Investment talk is single-faceted—you’re not really connected with someone at a personal level. Volunteering helps me connect with people more deeply. When an Oxford client says, “I saw your name on the Civic Theatre’s playbill,” I’m more than just an investment professional sitting across the table.

Volunteering is a part of who I am, how I want my kids to learn about giving back and a refl ection of me professionally. I would be missing out on the chance to be part of the local success and sustainability if I did not give back to my community. It gives me great satisfaction knowing that I’m helping to support the legacy of local theatre.

The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) is the largest global research

organization for type 1 juvenile diabetes. My wife and I became involved with JDRF over 20 years ago—impressed by the effi ciency with which they translate funds directly into research. Coincidently, a few years after our initial involvement with JDRF, our oldest son was diagnosed with diabetes

as a teenager, leading us to ramp up our involvement.

Over the years, I have served in a number of capacities for JDRF. I was a board member for the Indiana chapter helping to increase fi nancial support. In addition, I served on the National Lay Review Committee, which oversees the review process for awarding grants to researchers and physicians.

For the last seven years, I have participated in the JDRF Death Valley Ride to Cure Diabetes—a 100-mile bike ride across the desert. Today, I serve on a smaller committee that works with legacy donors interested in contributing to JDRF through their estate plans.

At Oxford, we work with families to help them organize their fi nancial lives. We strive to expose them to the best ideas used by other successful families, including legacy planning.

My work with JDRF helps me relate better to clients as they become passionate about causes they want to support. I share stories of my personal involvement and encourage them to consider broadening their charitable intentions beyond just fi nancial support. When organizations support giving and help families navigate a plan for themselves, they stand a better chance of driving real change at the local and, ultimately, the global level.

CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™

The CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ mark is awarded to individuals who successfully complete the CFP Board’s initial and ongoing certifi cation requirements.

CFP® Grounded in Midwestern values

The same values at the heart of Midwestern families—integrity, trust and honesty—

are ingrained in our culture at Oxford. These core values play a key role in the day-to-day administration and management of a family’s fi nancial affairs.

Whether it’s overseeing a client’s tax plan, building an estate plan or establishing philanthropic goals, we apply objective, thoughtful and comprehensive advice to help families preserve their legacy.

With clients in 37 states, we have not lost sight of our roots. Our approach is and remains grounded in doing what’s right for our clients. We focus on corporate integrity and transparency—a stark contrast to the risk culture inherent in many fi rms on Wall Street. Adhering to a diligent, risk-controlled process ensures that we align our goals with those of our clients.

Take the case of a client with a special needs child. Nearing retirement, the couple wanted to generate suffi cient retirement income and also ensure fi nancial security for their child. We helped them align their fi nancial and philanthropic goals by integrating a charitable gift to help fund the construction of a group home where their son will ultimately live, with an income strategy to support retirement. Whatever it is that defi nes you, we ensure your plan refl ects those goals.

As a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ professional, I bring a broader perspective to the process. The fi rst step involves getting to the “heart of the matter”—defi ning what’s important to you. Then we execute an investment strategy according to those objectives. We build our process to best accomplish your overall goals, whether it’s multi-generational estate planning, designating a charitable contribution or some combination of both.

The entrepreneurial know-how to go the extra mile

The Mayfair Initiative is Oxford’s strategy to invest directly in privately held companies with highly successful and exceptional management teams across the Midwest. We create a true partnership by investing on the same terms

as our clients and the management teams charged with leading the companies.

The Mayfair platform provides our clients with a unique opportunity to invest in established business leaders across the Midwest. In addition to exceptional management teams, we focus on companies with defensible, niche market positions, scalable operations and signifi cant and defi ned growth opportunities.

Mayfair represents the entrepreneurial division of Oxford. We partner with companies to help them grow by serving on the board and developing management-based incentives that correlate with their business plans. It’s a key reason why I think the Master of Business Administration (MBA) complements this role so well.

Working with professionals who have earned an MBA gives clients a level of confi dence that we have the expertise and tools to identify the best opportunities. The knowledge gained from an MBA is valuable because it teaches you to be analytical and sharpens your problem-solving skills, particularly when it comes to evaluating opportunities. Strong relationship skills are also critical. We must build trusted relationships with the companies we invest in, and build and maintain investor relationships. Together, these qualities add depth to our professional experience, demonstrating that we have the know-how to go the extra mile for clients.

My experiences have equipped me with the knowledge and confi dence to talk to business owners across several industries about a variety of issues. It comes down to breadth and depth of experience—that’s a real asset when you work with Oxford.

Founded in 1910, Holy Trinity High School educates a diverse community of children,

including many underserved youth in the greater Chicago area. The school fosters an environment that challenges teens to be the best that they can be.

I have been involved with Holy Trinity High School for the past ten years in a variety of capacities. Currently, I am Chair of the Board of Trustees. As a board member, I support the school’s mission of making a difference in the lives of Chicago youth. The fi nancial support we generate through the capital campaign—an $8.5 million fundraising effort—puts students on a strong forward trajectory. For the past seven consecutive years, 100% of the students have been accepted into college. I think that is evidence of the dedication of volunteers, educators and others.

The desire to champion change is deeply rooted in Oxford’s culture. As an investment fi rm, we are committed to serving others, helping clients achieve both their fi nancial and charitable goals. Being socially minded allows us to extend our core values across our community and make a difference in the lives of others.

I believe that people genuinely appreciate businesses that embrace philanthropy. My involvement with Holy Trinity High School often comes up as I get to know clients and what’s important to them. These discussions provide a foundation for helping to establish an individual’s charitable giving intentions. I support Holy Trinity High School because I want to help local teens become successful, productive citizens. I want our clients to share our passion for giving back to community.

I serve as a volunteer attorney with The Children’s Law Center, a non-profi t in the Twin Cities.

I provide direct legal representation and advocacy for area foster care youth—typically children between the ages of 12 and 20.

Many involve child protection cases where the child gets removed from a home due to neglect or chemical dependency and placed in a foster home. These children need someone to advocate for them on their behalf. For example, if a child wants to stay with a particular foster family, then they need someone to advocate their position to the court. We provide that voice on behalf of our clients.

I meet with the child on a regular basis and appear in court on their behalf. A big part of the process involves education—helping youth understand the role of the judge and each individual involved with

the case. Even if their wishes are not granted, they understand their legal rights and the process.

At Oxford, I am primarily focused on estate and trust law. Volunteering with The Children’s Law Center provides me with exposure to a different type of law. Working with this organization gives me a sense of appreciation for what I have and sometimes take for granted. People live in very different situations—giving back to the community offers a deeper perspective and a compassion for others.

When we talk with clients about planning and identifying charitable intentions, The Children’s Law Center provides a connecting point for discussion. I think the fact that we support charities—as a fi rm and as individuals—encourages clients to think about how they too can make a difference.

Aligning advice with tax and legal goalsFamily Offi ce Services brings together a team of fi nancial professionals

with diverse backgrounds. It is the foundation for understanding clients, their family dynamic and short- and long-term goals. Getting

to the client’s “heart of the matter” helps us align our advice with their tax and fi nancial objectives.

As a J.D., I dig into legal and tax issues to identify complexities that could potentially impact a client’s fi nancial strategy, estate plan or charitable intentions. At the core of this approach is an ability to apply strong problem-

solving and analytical skills to navigate the ever-changing nature of tax code. By identifying the challenges facing each client, we can address potential legal and tax implications and implement the right strategy to grow and preserve wealth.

Bringing together different disciplines and designations from within the organization helps us focus on delivering the best advice—and leverage the team’s diverse skillset for the benefi t of the client.

Understanding the big picture

Juris Doctorate Continued

Tax complexities and legal issues can have a signifi cant impact on a family’s estate. That’s why

decisions related to managing and protecting wealth require a highly integrated approach.

A law degree trains you to think about the “big picture” when creating a wealth management strategy. It has empowered me to ask the right questions, collaborate with outside professionals such as CPAs and attorneys, identify complex issues and take advantage of potential opportunities for my clients.

We learn everything we can about our clients’ fi nancial lives. We assess whether they have suffi cient life insurance, explore tax implications, evaluate estate-planning needs and identify charitable giving intentions. Then we draw on our experience to analyze operational, regulatory, tax and legal issues to create a strategy that can help clients preserve wealth and achieve goals.

We draw on our specifi c legal expertise to thoroughly understand an issue and then identify a resolution. Whether putting together a plan to manage estate taxes, or using charitable gifts to offset tax exposure, our goal remains the same—to develop a solution that is aligned with each client’s long-term goals. Let’s say an individual is planning to sell a business and anticipates a future tax liability. We might consider incorporating a charitable giving plan prior to the sale to offset tax exposure.

We believe the benefi ts of a coordinated approach to planning allow us to manage wealth in a way that is both effective and effi cient. Bringing seasoned tax, legal and fi nancial professionals together under one roof enables us to better navigate the complexities and design a plan that will have a lasting impact.

We all volunteer for different reasons. Working with the American Heart Association means taking the time to make a difference in someone’s life. The statistics are staggering—one in three

women die from heart disease each year. In fact, it is the number one killer of women. That’s why Go Red for Women was established—to encourage women to take charge of their health. Our greatest challenge is education— we work to empower women to make their health a priority.

We both became involved with the organization after losing loved ones to heart disease. “I’ve served in different capacities for Go Red for Women, from spearheading corporate sponsorship events, to participating in fundraising walks in the Greater Indianapolis area,” says Sue Mitchell, Director of Compliance. Oxford Client Relationship Manager, Donna Sterwerf, serves on the Executive Leadership Team for Go Red in Cincinnati, working with Girl Scouts and high school students to raise awareness of heart disease.

Oxford is a very compassionate organization and philanthropy starts at the top. Employees across the organization are encouraged to do something charitable for others—whether it’s donating time or fi nancial support. And, we align that objective when we work with our clients, helping them identify their charitable intentions within the context of their broader fi nancial goals. We enjoy talking to clients about what we do for Go Red for Women—it’s a connection that is both personally and professionally rewarding.

I became involved with the Fuller Center for Housing two years ago, after a former colleague and ardent supporter passed away. I served on a volunteer team that built a house in her memory for a family in

Indianapolis. This involved exterior painting, jobsite cleaning and serving meals to other volunteers.

The Fuller Center for Housing is a very inspiring organization. Everyone, from marketing to fi nancial operations, serves on a volunteer basis. That means 100% of the money raised directly supports families in need.

At Oxford, we instill a passion in our clients to serve others and be “stewards of their money” by helping them identify and execute their charitable intentions. We want families to be successful. In many ways, the Fuller Center for Housing is a steward of volunteerism, returning all donated funds to the community with no profi t made.

Oxford stands behind the statement “your success is our only objective.” The Fuller Center for Housing shares that goal: giving individuals the support they need to create a home, at terms they can afford and with no interest charged. In short, it’s about helping people create a legacy for their family.

We believe in building highly diversifi ed portfolios that are resilient and robust across a range of potential economic and fi nancial market outcomes.

•• 19 ••

An in-depth approach guided by independent, objective thinking

The Oxford Investment Fellows are the backbone of our research platform. We execute an investment process that captures original investment thinking, extensive research and deep market insights, and apply it to each client’s portfolio. Each of our seven Oxford Investment Fellows has extensive investment industry experience and holds the Chartered Financial Analyst® (CFA®) designation. The Fellows collaborate across asset classes, but each offers specialized expertise in a focus area such as:

• global equity• fi xed income• liquid alternative strategies• hedge funds• real assets• private equity

Having this depth of knowledge and experience is unique to a fi rm of Oxford’s size. We are large enough to foster intellectual curiosity, yet small enough to meet as a team to exchange ideas and formulate strategy. An ongoing series of conference calls and face-to-face meetings—held weekly, monthly and quarterly—serve as an internal forum to educate our client service team on investment strategy and developments in the capital markets.

Investment philosophy

We believe in building highly diversified portfolios that are resilient and robust across a range of potential economic and fi nancial market outcomes. Our investment process is driven by the assumption that fi nancial markets offer periodic mispriced opportunities for astute investors with access to deep analytical resources and intellectual rigor. In the pursuit of achieving your wealth objectives, we are

committed to managing portfolio risks, avoiding confl icts of interest and providing superior levels of communication.

Oxford’s investment advice is guided by the following six core principles:

1. Success begins with a long-term plan and ends with the failure to follow it.

2. No one can predict the future. Investment decisions should be a function of value and risk.

3. Human emotions (greed, fear, panic) will always create opportunities for the disciplined.

Highly customized advice

What distinguishes Oxford is the way in which we formulate and implement investment advice. We begin with the Investment Policy Statement, which identifi es the client’s goals and objectives. It’s a process that enables us to understand their return objectives, risk tolerance, time horizon and other considerations.

The next phase is asset allocation, which involves designing a customized investment strategy. Once we determine how a portfolio’s assets should be allocated across stocks, bonds and other investments, we make specifi c recommendations to execute that strategy. Ongoing monitoring ensures the portfolio is on target with the client’s goals, making adjustments as needed.

Oxford’s hands-on approach supports a highly objective, unbiased approach to investing. Identifying the best opportunities, applying comprehensive due diligence and creating a customized strategy helps us manage the risks and rewards to maximize results for our clients.

A top-tier knowledge platform

Chartered Financial Analyst

The Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation is a professional designation given by the CFA Institute that measures the competence and integrity of fi nancial analysts.

CFA

With wealth comes more opportunity and complexity. That’s why, when it comes to managing your fi nancial assets, knowledge and experience are essential. Having the expertise of a Chartered

Financial Analyst (CFA) working on your behalf adds a level of breadth and depth to the investment, fi nancial and tax planning process.

The Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation has long been considered the “gold standard” in the investment industry. It’s an arduous three-year process that combines multiple exams with substantial hands-on experience requirements. This top-tier knowledge enables us to integrate multiple investment disciplines in conjunction with specialists, such as tax lawyers and accountants. And it gives us access to a network of CFA charter holders around the globe—providing exposure to the latest investment insight and strategies.

Unlike other fi rms our size, we have CFA charter holders focused on both research and client service. This means you have day-to-day access to a professional who is well-versed in your fi nancial strategy. Having someone on the front line with this depth of investment profi ciency helps us formulate better advice and build a portfolio according to your specifi c objectives and goals.

One of our greatest strengths at Oxford is our ability to provide deep education to clients—a talent that is particularly relevant in today’s post-fi nancial crisis world. Having an experienced partner who can translate complex information can instill the confi dence you need to make better decisions.
