o Set the green l ine of the aperture A index to the t marking whi ledepressing the lens aperture auto lock but ton.

o Set the red l ine of the shut ter d ia l to the "M" (Manual) posi t ion.

The shut ter speed wi l l be dig i ta l ly d isplayed on the LCDs bothouts ide the camera and inside the v iewf inder.

o Select the shut ter speed by pressing ei ther of the manual shut terspeed select but tons (next to the shut ter d ia l ) . The f ront but tonmakes the shutter speed faster; the rear button makes it slower. Theshutter speed changes step by step with each time you press the

button, and the speed changes cont inuously i f you keep your f inger

on the but ton.

o When you press the shutter release bu.tton lightly, the aperturevalue is indicated on the v iewf inder LCD. To take a picture, put

a l i t t le more pressure on the but ton. The meter swi tch turns of fabout 30 seconds af ter you remove your f inger f rom the shut terre lease but ton. The aperture indicat ion then goes out , but theshutter speed display remains on.

o f f you set the red l ine of the shut ter d ia l to 125x,a var iat ion ofShutter-pr ior i ty AE is possib le, but the speed remains f ixed at11125 sec.

S E L E C T I N G T H E M E T E R E D M A N U A L M O D E

o Set the shut ter d ia l red- l ine index to "M" (manual) and select thedesired shut ter speed. The shut ter speed wi l l be displayed on LCDsboth outs ide the camera and inside the v ieMinder.

o Rotate lens aperture r ing to an F value. Should the lens be lockedat A (auto) , re lease i t by depressing the aperture auto lock but ton.

r Sl ight ly depress the shut ter re lease but ton, and you wi l l see oneo f the fo l l ow ing ind ica t ions (+3 , +2 , +1 , 10 , -1 , -2 , o r -3 ) d i sp layedon the aperture value window in the v iewf inder. These f igures showthe steps of over- or under-exposure (EV value).

+ = over-exposu ret0 = correct exposure- = u nder-exposure

Should the l ight ing condi t ion go over the l imi t of three steps,the +3 or -3 indicat ion f l ickers.

o For normal shoot ing, adjust the lens aperture so that correctexposure, indicated by t0, is obtained. Should you select the lensaperture pr ior to the shut ter speed, adjust the shut ter speed toobtain the correct exposure.l f you prefer over- or under-exposure, you can f reely select anyexposure apply ing the indicat ion as a guidance.As soon as the meter swi tch is turned of f by the bui l t - in t imer, theaperture indicat ion goes out , but the shut ter speed displayremarns on .

When you set the camera to the Aperture-pr ior i tyAE or the Metered Manua l mode;o You can set any desired f -number on the lensaperture r ing for the TTL Auto Flash contro l ,o The LCDs indicate the automat ical ly setsynchronizat ion shut ter speed of 11125 sec. asthe TTL Auto Flash recycles. (nf . page 43 forthe s low speed synchronizat ion in the MeteredManua l mode. )When you choose the Programmed AE or theShutter-pr ior i ty AE mode;

Meter coupling range and Shutter/Aperturecoupling rangeThe meter coupl ing range means the range of

sub jec t luminance w i th in wh ich the bu i l t - inexposure-meter works to contro l exposure. Theshutter /aperture coupl ing range is that part of themeter coupl ing range wi th in which shut ter-speedand aperture value can be combined for proper

exposure cont ro l . When you use a 50mm f 11 .4normal lens and an ASA/ ISO 100 f i lm, the metercoupl ing range is f rom EV 1 ( t l1 .4-1 sec. or f l2-2sec . ) to EV 19 $122-1 l1000 sec . o r t l16-1 |2OOOsec.) . The range var ies according to f i lm speed(ASA/ ISO) . The var ia t ion o f the meter coup l ingrange is shown by s lan t ing l ines wh ich sh i f t w i thASA/ISO rat ings. EV (Exposure Value)EV represents a combinat ion of the shut ter-speedand the lens aperture which is determined bythe f i lm speed (ASA/ ISO) and the br igh tness o f

The automat ic exposure system of your SuperProgram tends to underexpose backl i t subjectsand overexposure spot l ighted subjects on a stage,etc. In such cases, you can compensate by set t ingthe exposure compensat ion dia l . When shoot inga subject against a br ight background (backl i tsubjects) , increase the exposure by set t ing the dia le i ther to 2X or 4X. When your subject is spot l ightedagainst a dark background, decrease the exposure byse t t i ng the d ia l t o 1 /2X o r 114X. To se t the d ia l , t u rnthe knur led r ing. Use of the exposure compensat iondial changes the shut ter speed in Aperture-pr ior i tyAE mode, the aperture in Shutter-pr ior i ty AE mode,the programmed value in Programmed AE mode,and the + values to which you adjust the exposure,in manua l mode .

Exposure compensation dial and Film speed scaleAt both extremes of the f i lm speed scale, the use ofthe exposure compensat ion dia l is l imi ted as shownin the chart . When the exposure compensat ion dia lis employed, the "EF"

{exposure factor) indicat ionwi l l f l icker on the aperture LCD in the v iewf inder.Always return the exposure compensat ion dia l to1X when compensa t ion i s no longer requ i red .

Depth-of- f ie ld is the range between the nearest and far thest d istanceswhich are in focus at a g iven lens aperture.The minimum aperture ( for example f l22l g ives you the greatestdepth-of- f ie ld, or area in focus. The maximum aperture ( for exampleI l1.4 l g ives you the smal lest depth-of- f ie ld. When you vary aperturevalue, the range " in focus" changes accordingly, so that you can createdi f ferent photographic ef fects in your p ictures. As i l lustrated in thepictures on the r ight (examples of f l1 .4 andf l22l , the distance rangein focus can be conf i rmed by the depth-of- f ie ld scale on the lens.

Depth-of-f ield preview

Your Super Program is equipped to help yor- i preview just what wi l l

and what wi l l not be sharp in your p ictures. By depressing thepreview lever near the lens mount, you can c lose the lens down to

whatever aperture you have set . You can then preview how much

sharpness you wi l l get in your p icture by examining the picture area

on the ground glass. Af ter previewing your p icture, i f you re lease

the preview lever, the lens wi l l return to fu l l aperture for focusing'

You cannot, however, preview the depth of f ie ld wi th your Super

The sel f - t imer is used when you want to inc lude yoursel f in thep ic tu re w i th your fam i l y , f r i ends , e tc . D raw the se l f - t imer l eve rin the di rect ion of the arrow, and depress the shut ter re lease but ton.The t imer delays shut ter re lease for about 12 seconds. Sel f -t imer operat ion is indicated by red l ight and electronic beeping.2 seconds before a shut ter re lease, the f requency of f l icker ing andbeeping increases. The sel f - t imer can be cancel led even af ter pressingthe shut ter , by returning the lever to i ts or ig inal posi t ion.The sel f - t imer cannot be used wi th the shut ter set at "B"."E" f l ickers on LCDs both outs ide the camera and inside theviewf inder to warn you of an erroneous set t ing. DIOPTER ADJUSTMENT, CHANGING BACK COVER

Correct ion lenses M are avai lable for the Super Program viewf inder.There are 8 auxi l iary M lenses: -5,4, -3, -2, - ' l , +1 , +2 and+3D. Choose the one that sui ts your eye, and put i t in the eyepieceaccessory slots as il lustrated. Before buying one, try it for yourselfwi th the lens actual ly at tached to your camera.

Ghanging the back coverThe back cover must be removed f rom your Pentax Super Programto use such accessor ies as the Dial Date ME or Digi ta l Data M data-impr int ing devices. Open the back cover, and pul l i t s l ight-by whi lepushing down the back cover re lease pin to d isengage the lockingmechanism. Then the cover can be easi ly removed. Whenreat taching i t , f i rs t put the lower back-cover-re lease lug intoposi t ion, then match the upper lug wi th the re lease pin pushed

downward. Release the pin to at tach the back to camera body.

Conventional screw-mount lenses can be easilyat tached to the lens mount of your Pentax SuperProgram by using the opt ional Mount Adapor K.But there are some l imi tat ions.

o Put the Mount Adaptor K in the body mount bymatching both marks.o To lock i t , rotate the adaptor c lockwise (65' )

wi th a pointed object such as a bal l -point pen.

Now your Super Program can accept anyconvent ional Pentax screw-mount lenses.o To remove the adaptor, press the spring pin onthe adaptor wi th some pointed aid and rotate i tcounterc lockwise unt i l i t s tops.

o What is ASA/ISO 100?I t shows the sens i t i v i t y o f the f i lm in use . Youcannot obtain proper exposures unless you set thecamera to the proper f i lm speed. (See page 15)

o Why are my pictures out of focus?Afways be sure to focus accurately by using thesp l i t image and/or mic ropr ism on the f inderscreen. Camera shake of ten causes blurred pictures,Use shut ter-speeds faster than 1160 sec. , and holdyour camera t igh t ly wh i le shoot ing . (See pages1 9 and 2O)
