Thirty-third Sunday in Ordinary Time St. Ann Catholic Church November 18, 2018

Dear Friends,

"At that time there shall arise Michael, the great prince, guardian of your people; it shall be a time unsurpassed in distress since nations began until that time. At that time your people shall escape, everyone who is found written in the book.”

The prophet Daniel mentioned St. Michael the Archangel, the “great prince” and guardian of God’s people. You might have noticed that after every daily Mass and Sunday Mass, we recite the St. Michael Prayer. Soon, I will be instituting the traditional prayers at the end of Mass. These prayers will be familiar to some of our more “seasoned” parishioners - they were said after every Mass for years. The intention behind them is to call upon God, the Blessed Mary, St. Michael, and all the saints to come to our aid, especially while Christ still abides in us after receiving the Eucharist.

Never underestimate the Church’s wisdom in having said these prayers for so long. It was a big mistake to stop praying the powerful prayer to St. Michael - the one who, along with the Blessed Mother, is the great opponent of the Evil One. Please call upon his powerful intercession often, especially in these troubled times.

In Christ, Fr. Marotti

WELCOME TO ST. ANN CHURCH!

If you have been considering joining St. Ann Church we have made it super easy! Just stop in the office and say “hi” and pick up a Welcome/Registration folder. Inside you will find a registration form, a parish directory, and information on the many activities in which you can get involved. If the office is closed, folders can also be found on the counter in the vestibule. We are very excited to meet you! Blessings!!

THE FORGE (A Men’s Small Group)

Iron is sharpened by iron: one person sharpens another.

-Proverbs 27:17

The K of C council of St Ann is sponsoring a program to help aid the widows of our parish to complete projects around the house that are difficult for them to do. The projects we have done in the past are: 1. Yard clean-up 2. Moving furniture. 3. General maintenance and repairs to the homes. 4. Cleaning windows, store rooms, garages, etc.

We would like to invite all members of St. Ann Parish the opportunity to serve the widows of our parish as well.

SAT I DEC 1 I 8:00 am - the work is done!

Save the DATE! Advent Penance Service WED I DEC 5 I 6:30 pm

Wild Goose: The Spirit and the Desert On the day Jesus was baptized, the Holy Spirit anointed him. Immediately after this event the Holy Spirit led Jesus to the desert. The desert was a place of isolation, death, and defeat, but Jesus was led to the desert so that it may be forever changed into a place of grace. The Spirit led Jesus to the desert and also protected and cared for him while he was there.

CALLING ALL YOUNG ELVES! Christmas is a magical time of year and this year, The Liturgical Environment Team would like to tell the story of the Bible through decorating ornaments!

This tradition is known as a Jesse Tree, which helps us connect the custom of decorating Christmas trees to the events leading to Jesus’ birth. The Jesse Tree is named from Isaiah 11:1: “A shoot shall come out of the stock of Jesse, and a branch shall grow out of his roots.” Jesse was the father of King David. We adorn a Jesse Tree with illustrated

ornaments that represent the people, prophesies, and events leading up to the birth of Jesus. The ornaments of the Jesse Tree tell the story of God in the Old Testament, connecting the Advent season with the faithfulness of God across four thousand years of history.

Please join us December 2 and December 16 after both the 9:00a and 11:00a masses and help us decorate the St. Ann Jesse Tree while enjoying coffee, hot chocolate and donuts.

Prayer Requests

If you would like to request that someone be put in the bulletin or on the prayer chain, please go to stannaugusta.org/prayer-chain and complete the form.

Please keep the family & friends of our St. Ann community in your prayers.

Thank you so much for your continu-ing support of the poor through St. Vincent de Paul. We saw a pretty heavy caseload in October, and your generosity helped many families keep a roof over their heads and the power or water on. Again, thank you!

MONDAY MORNING BIBLE STUDY New Book Study: Wisdom-God’s Vision for Life by Jeff Cavins and Thomas Smith

Scripture and the Tradition of the Catholic Church provide an abundance of wisdom, though it can often be challenging to apply it to our lives. In this study, Jeff Cavins and Thomas Smith examine biblical wisdom as it relates to daily life. Drawing on the wisdom literature of the Bible-Proverbs, Wisdom, Sirach, and Ecclesiastes-Wisdom will teach you how to actively seek out sound guid-ance and increase your sense of peace in navigating life. In everything from friend-ships to finances, from making decisions to attaining peace of mind, Scripture offers a vision for happiness and well-being. With this program, you will learn how to gather, gain, and grow in wisdom, and you will experience the joy it brings to your life.

In this program, you will:

• Discover what wisdom is (and isn’t!)

• Learn new habits for increasing wisdom in your daily life

• Gain confidence, through role models and practice, in living according to God’s vision
