Bursa closes lowerSHARE prices on Bursa Malaysia closed loweryesterday as investors were still worried overthe global economic downturn, dealers said.

They said the market opened in negativeterritory with the KLCI dipping to as low as801.27 points in the morning session due tothe persistent selling of bluechips.

However, the local stocks regained someground in the afternoon session in line with therecovery in major regional markets. At 5pm,the KLCI fell 26.67 points or 3.1% to 832.44.

Among the active stocks, IOI Corp fell 26 sento RM2.19, KNM increased two sen to 52 sen,Resorts World lost 14 sen to RM2.23, Tenaga de-clined 35 sen to RM6.15 and Telekom Malaysiaeased 12 sen to RM3.24. Bernama

Deliver orlose licence,WiMax operator toldKUALA LUMPUR: The govern-ment may revoke the WiMax(Worldwide Interoperabilityfor Microwave Access) licencegiven to a company following itsfailure to offer the service dur-ing the six-month trial period.

Energy, Water and Commu-nications Minister Datuk Shazi-man Abu Mansor, in issuing thewarning, said the governmentwould however first determinethe problem faced by the com-pany concerned.

He also did not specify adeadline by the government towithdraw the licence.

He was speaking to reportersafter launching the 2008 MyBroadband conference andexhibition at the Kuala LumpurConvention Centre yesterday.

WiMax is a telecommunica-tions technology that providesfor the wireless transmissionof data using a variety of trans-mission modes, from point-to-point links to full mobile

cellular-type access.Four companies were given

WiMax licences in which theywere required to launch theservice during a six-month pe-riod which ended last August.

The companies Bizsurf (M)Sdn Bhd, Packet One NetworksSdn Bhd (previously known asMIB Comm Sdn Bhd), AsiaspaceDotcom Sdn Bhd and REDtone-CNX Broadband Sdn Bhd wereawarded the 2.3GHz spectrumfor wireless access.

Bizsurf is a subsidiary of YTLe-Solutions while Packet One isowned by Green Packet.

All the licences, except that ofREDtone-CNX, cover PeninsularMalaysia. The REDtone-CNX li-cence is for Sabah and Sarawak.

Shaziman said the MalaysianCommunications and MultimediaCommission (MCMC) is monitor-ing the progress being made bythe four licence holders. Gener-ally, three (of the companies)have done a good job while one

is slightly behind, he said.If they cant give a good

reason why they cant give thebusiness plan as what theyhave proposed, we would liketo take the licence and give tothose people who are reallyinterested and serious in thatparticular industry, he added.

The MCMC had previouslystated that all licence holdersare expected to quickly rollout the service to 25% of thepopulation in the area given to

them by end of last year, witha service provision of at least1MBps at affordable rates.

At the end of third year, it isexpected that they will be ableto roll out services to at least40% of the population in theareas given to them.

Each of the companies isexpected to invest betweenRM250 million and RM300million in the first three yearsof the WiMax implementation. Bernama
