There are big events planned for the end of the year to celebrate the kids’ advancement to 6 th grade, and special traditions on top of those. All of them require planning, funding and people to make it happen. We have thus far been very successful in our fundraising events, and have a couple more opportunities to do so. Below is a summary of the fundraisers, traditions and events that comprise the 5 th Grade Promotion Celebration, both past and future. If you have any questions about a specific event, please contact the coordinator identified for the item directly. Any general questions or concerns can be emailed to [email protected] Important Notes: There are some 5 th grade activities that are coordinated and implemented solely by the school – such as field trips, class performances and the wall mural – for any questions regarding those, please contact your child’s 5 th grade teacher. The content and student participants of the June 13 th Promotion Celebration is decided upon by the school, and the 5 th grade parent volunteers are there to provide assistance, the video presentation and the decorations for the event – the 5 th Grade Promotion Team of the PTA does not determine the role of any particular student in the event on June 13 th – for any questions regarding your child’s role or the content of the celebration other than the video, please contact your child’s 5 th grade teacher. There are still many opportunities to get involved. Volunteers and donations will be needed to make the year a success, and this is particularly true for the events on June 12, 13 and 14. If you are interested in helping in any way, please email the coordinator(s) for the tradition/event – their contact info is below. please contact your child’s 5th grade teacher.

o In November, the 5th grade students voted for their theme song, and Fight Song, by Rachel Platten, was

the winner by a landslide

o The Class Theme is “Be the Change” – as the theme song states, everyone can make a huge impact on

the world in which we live. So in the spirit of the song, and the quote ascribed to Ghandi, the theme is

Be the Change you want to see in the world.

o On March 11th, during the school day, the students will provide their signature for the traditional design

tshirt. We will also do a “back and shoulders” confirmation of sizing for all the students given varying

rates of growth at this age. If a student is absent that day, there will be a makeup session the following

week.

o Orders will be placed later in the month, and Tshirts will be delivered in time for the class picture in

early May.

o This years’ tshirts will be royal blue, with white printing.

Coordinator: Nancy Robinson [email protected] In Process

o A video presentation reflecting the class theme and celebrating the students and their time at

Pinebrook will be part of the Promotion ceremony and every student will receive a DVD copy.

o Headshot photos of students will be taken on March 11th. If you desire for your child to opt out of the

headshots on March 11th, you must do so by email to your child’s teacher and [email protected] by

March 10th

o In years past, “baby” pictures of students have been included, however this year any photos other than

the headshots will be limited to a candids montage and must be from school-sponsored events

(classroom activities, field trips, field days, class performances, fall festival, the 5K for education, the

Lion King Jr ) over the full K-5 year timeframe. Parents are welcome to provide contributions to the

candids montage by emailing pictures no later than April 30th to [email protected] (no more than 5,

no more than 5MB total, must be a school sponsored event, preferably with more than one student per

picture). We cannot guarantee than any particular picture will be included in the candids montage.

o Based on inputs from the classroom teachers, and in coordination with the room parents for each class,

the class will provide gifts to the 5th grade teachers.

know they shall never sit in,” the Class of 2016 will make a legacy gift to benefit the Pinebrook

community they are leaving behind as they move on to Middle School. The gift is TBD but will be
