What is a Wounded Healer: Biblical Roots and Transformation“If we are distressed, it is for your comfort and salvation, if we are comforted, it is for your comfort, which produces in you patient endurance of the same sufferings we suffer.” 2 Corinthians 1: 6
The Rev. Nan Kennedy, M. Div., B.S. Pharmacy, an ordained Episcopal priest, brings her years of experience in pastoral care in three parishes as well as experience as a chaplain and religious educator in Episcopal schools. She brings a multicultural perspective following her work as a pharmacist with the Indian Health Service in the southwest.
“When we experience the healing presence of another person, we can discover our own gifts of healing. Then our wounds allow us to enter into a deep solidarity with our wounded brothers and sisters.” Henri Nouwen
Joan E. Purdon, MSN, RN, FCN, speaks from her many years in nursing education, spiritual development and faith community nursing. She is passionate about helping others to learn from their experiences and to honor their inner wisdom as a gift from God.
Reflection on Our Practice“Nobody escapes being wounded. We are all wounded people…the main question is not ‘How can we hide our wounds?’ so we don’t have to be embarrassed, but ‘How can we put our woundedness in the service of others?’” Henri Nouwen
Jane Elliott, RN, University of the South Education for Ministry Mentor, draws upon her career in nursing as a nurse practitioner and hospice nurse. She brings many years of nurturing others in their faith development and understanding of our faith traditions as sources of healing.
