The Women’s Missionary and Educational Auxiliary of the Sharon Missionary Baptist Association greet you
with Jesus Joy and Season Greetings! The last quarter of 2017 has been busy and eventful.
On September 30th, one of our Past Presidents Sister Ernestine Langston was recognized for her
Field Worker service and dedication to the Nansemond and Isle of Wight Baptist Sunday School Union. Mrs.
Langston also continues to actively serve on our WMEA Board and Chair of the Scholarship Committee for the
Executive Board of the Sharon Association. Congratulations Mrs. Langston!!!
In October we held our annual “Be Aware Take Care” Breast Cancer Awareness Month and Health Fair Event at Canaan Baptist Church, Suffolk
Pastor Vernon Hairston and his congregation was the epitome of hospitality. We started the day with the Word from Minister Angela Copeland, Associate Minister of Canaan Baptist Church. We were also blessed by presentations from Kimberly Robinson of the American Cancer Society, Amy Peterson of Sentara Obici Hospital Community Education Department and Amy D’Angelo from the Virginia Oncology Associates.
The day also included lunch, a “Show Your Support” a decorated bra display, and A “Hidden Figures” fashion show.
The day ended on a high note provided by “I AM A SURVIVOR” testimonials from Breast Cancer Survivors.
Over five years ago we adopted the local shelter for battered individuals. Each year we
collected items to assist in supporting their clients. This year in November we collected non-perishable food
items. Our Moderator, Pastor Robert Hobbs and Metropolitan Baptist Church Suffolk, provided us with our
drop-off location. We also had a little Holiday Fellowship during the event. Thanks to our member churches
who made it possible for us to deliver a truck load of food to the shelter.
As we embark on the New Year of 2018 we plan to continue to support the missions of The Virginia Baptist
State Convention, Inc. and Sharon Missionary Baptist Association. As a part of the WMEA of the VBSC, we look
forward to serving and supporting Deaconess Bernice McCain and the Board in its efforts to spread the gospel
of Jesus Christ and thereby fulfilling the “The Great Commission.”
Submitted on behalf of the WMEA of the Sharon Missionary Baptist Association and Allied Bodies,
Be Blessed

News from Our WMEA
As 2017 quickly makes her exit we thank God for blessing the Women’s Missionary and Educational
Auxiliary. We pause to thank God for the many successes that God has granted our auxiliary this year. From
the beginning to the end, we thank God.
We closed out this year with our annual Women’s Conference on Saturday December 2, 2017 at the
Quality Inn Dutch Inn, Martinsville. Our theme for this year was “I’m a Midnight Survivor”; scripture
reference Acts 16:25. More than fifty were in attendance. God blessed us with a dynamic conference
preacher. Pastor Lashaunda Reynolds, Pastor of Christian Life Baptist Church/Danville, VA and Guest Psalmist,
Minster Tamika Hairston, First Baptist Church, East Martinsville. Special salutes and gifts were given to the
Officers of the WMEA. President Hayes honored our Devotional Leader, Sister Shirley Harrell and Sister Fitz
for coordinating the Women’s Conference for many years. The spirit was high, the food was delicious and the
fellowship beyond words. The testimonies of the “SURVIVORS” blessed each of us. Pastor Reynolds blessed
us with a mighty word.
Some Pictures from the Women’s Conference
On behalf of the WMEA we thank God for the VBSC WM&EA for allowing us to be a part of your
mission agenda. We thank God for President McCain and the wonderful leadership she has given this year.
May God continue to bless you all.
As we look forward the 2018 we know that God has a mighty hand in our plans and we are looking
forward to what HE is going to do.
May God continue to bless you in 2018 as we continue to work together.
