What happens when you put together five talented, unconventional young artists? An exhibition unlike any other. Dirty Crayons is the

brainchild of Leasho Johnson, Keegan Simon and Kemar Swaby, which was started in 2011. This is the second staging of the exhibition and the trio have taken on two other artists, Jehan Jackson and Taj Francis.

All graduates of the Edna Manley College of Visual and Performing Arts, the artists are looking to create a representation of the contemporary culture they are a part of, while setting themselves apart from their predecessors. Dirty Crayons gives them the forum to do just that.

The 2013 staging of Dirty Crayons, Victory Run will be exhibited from Saturday, January 12 until Saturday, February 2, 2013 at Cafe What’s On, 133 Barbican Rd. The exhibit will be launched at the same venue on Saturday from 6pm-10pm.

How do you normally spend your weekends? Well, as long as I don’t have work, I try to relax on the weekends but oftentimes it includes sewing, a trip to the fabric store and/or a night out at ULTRA++. If life allows, I try to take at least one day to sleep/lounge around all day to rejuvenate for the week ahead.

What is your favourite thing to do on the weekend in Jamaica?BEACH! Or a country run. Either of the two would be pretty much perfect. Maiden Cay, Ft Clarence, Portland or Montego Bay, anywhere there is sun and sea - or a river (lol). Anything that could involve a little travel and some good food

and a great dose of culture would make a great weekend for me.

If you could spend a weekend anywhere in Jamaica, where would it be and what would you do?Either at Holywell or at a villa on the Blue Lagoon or Great Huts in Portland. Holywell is like the ultimate relaxation spot. I love the coziness and the feeling of an escape from the usual excitement of Kingston. Blue Lagoon is simply breathtaking and Great Huts is like the perfect get away: no technology, just you in your hut overlooking Boston Bay Beach. Everywhere in Portland is pretty much amazing.

What was your best weekend ever and why?Best weekend... I can’t pick! Definitely carnival Sunday! Even though it’s just one day, it tops any and every weekend. Also, one weekend I spent in Bahamas while interning there for three months. I have always wanted to scuba dive and working at a hotel made that possible. My co-workers showed me the ropes and I did my first scuba dive in the beautiful Caribbean Sea! It didn’t end there though. They somehow coerced me into doing the shark dive that same day. First time scuba diving and shark dive SAME DAY. The thought was beyond frightful, but the experience was not like any other. I’d definitely do it again.
