She received her undergraduate degree in business management from
Boston University, and her law degree from the University of Illinois. S

Office in 1993 as an Assistant State’s Attorney. In 1999, she went into
private practice as a partner with the Urbana law firm of Beckett &
Webber, P.C., until she was elected State’s Attorney. In addition to her
duties as State’s Attorney, she is an adjunct professor at the University
of Illinois College of Law teaching Trial Advocacy, and serves as chair of
the county’s Children’s Advocacy Center Governing Board. She lives in
rural Urbana with her husband, retired Urbana Police Officer Al
Johnston, two daughters, four horses, and four dogs.
