Laugh together and share your own funny stories with our very own Mike Bloom, comedy book author and former Disney writer.
Healthy Hearing Initiative Fri. Feb. 12, 1:30 – 2:30 This presentation will discuss brain hearing, common complaints and problems related to hearing loss, the co-morbid effects of hearing loss and a general overview of how hearing devices can help combat these problems and co-morbid disorders.
Hot and Fresh Microwave Meals Wed. Feb. 24, 1:30-2:30 Make fresh and healthful meal in minutes with your microwave. Virginia Cooperative Extension demonstrates quick and easy microwave meals. Sample these convenient, healthful meals and pick up new recipe ideas.

Feb. 26, 1:30-2:30 According to Carl Jung’s Theory of Psychological types, people can be very different from one another and no amount of getting after them is going to change them. Please join Senior Adult Specialist Nancy Connors and… take a 70 question abbreviated Myer Briggs personality profile called the Keirsey Temperament Sorter, score it and discover /appreciate your personality temperament and style.

Basic Smartphone/Tablet Discussion Wed. Feb. 17, 1:30-2:30 Do you have questions about your smart phone or tablet? Maybe there are features you didn’t even know you had! Join us in an open discussion to learn new things about your devices and ask questions about issues you’ve had. Learn Mac, iPad, and iPhone Basics Fri. Feb. 5, 19, 10:30-12:45 Whether you’ve just gotten a new device or want to better operate the one you have, this program will help you learn a little about how to use your Apple products including Mac computers, iPad and iPhone. Lowell Nelson, volunteer and experienced Apple user, will answer your questions in this one-on-one session. By appointment only, sessions are 45 minutes.

SAVVY SOCIAL SECURITY Wed., Feb. 17, 11am-1pm The decisions you make today about Social Security can have a tremendous bearing on the total amount of benefits you stand to receive over a lifetime. Join Virginia Cooperative Extension Master Financial Education Volunteer Mike May as he provides invaluable information aimed at baby boomers about Social Security benefits and the many factors involved in determining what age will be right for them to start receiving benefits.
SPECIALTY COFFEE HOUR WITH COMMONWEALTH JOE COFFEE ROASTERS Sun., Feb. 21, 12:30-1:30pm Learn from the experts, Sean Douglass, Co-Founder of Commonwealth Joe Coffee Roasters, and his staff about the flavor profiles unique to different “origins” of coffee beans, as well as the best methods for brewing and preparing specialty coffee. There will be several different varieties of specialty coffee as well as hot pour-overs on the spot for participants.

THE EFFECTS OF STRESS AND DIET ON COGNITIVE PERFORMANCE
Tues., Feb. 9, 6:30-7:30pm
The effects of the three types of stress and diet on the cognitive functioning of the brain aren’t typically understood by the general population. Yet, they can’t be avoided and they play an important part of how we function cognitively, particularly as we age. Norton Beckerman, author of A User’s Guide to a Healthy Brain will explain how and why this all works and what we can do to protect our cognitive health.
WHO IS AT RISK FOR LIVER DISEASE & HOW TO PREVENT IT
Tues., Feb. 23, 6:30-7:30pm
A discussion on types of liver diseases and the present day demographics of who might be at higher risk factors. It will also cover how to prevent liver disease and drugs used to treat liver disease. Presented by Rebecca Reynolds, NP, Family and Adult Nurse Practitioner (FNP/ANP) with years of experience as an independent health care provider in the U.S. and abroad.
SPELLBINDERS STORY FEST
Thurs., Feb. 25, 1-2pm
Arlington Spellbinders will unleash the power of oral storytelling as each teller shares favorite tales from around the world. Since ancient times in all cultures, this oral tradition has passed on wisdom, connected elders to youth and engaged the imagination. Arlington Spellbinders, part of the national organization, is a group of retirees who tell stories to children in schools and day camps. Come listen to their tales as they share their talents at this special event.

Aurora Hills. You are not required to commit to
the same day or same time every week. Any
extra help is always welcome. Please speak

Help us to find items on the shelves,
and in the process discover hidden
treasures in the children’s and adult
collections. Fulfill holds on items patrons are waiting
for! Young Adult, Adult, and Older Adult volunteers
welcome. Openings on Tuesday (afternoon),
Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday mornings. Weekly
for 3-4 hours. Six month commitment required.
Training will be provided.
