BEAR CUB NEWSLETTER FEBRUARY 1, 2015 VALENTINE INFORMATION 5 CURRENT OBSERVATIONS We have enjoyed filling our mornings with extensive play at the different centers. The children appreciate the strong friendships developed in our Bear Cub classroom. Friendship skills are important to learn at this age. We are seeing our class solve conflicts with their friends in nonaggressive ways. The children are more flexible about understanding the concept of “give and take” required between friends. The progression of building meaningful friendships provides a great platform for us to move into our unit

SARGARENT BOB MAKES A SURPRISE VISIT!

The visit from Sergeant Bob proved to be an

exciting and positive experience for our

classroom. Many concerns were addressed

by the police officer. We talked about what

to do if your house is on fire, if you see a gun

lying on the ground, if you see a strange

dog/cat in your neighborhood, in a stranger

approaches you, and several other child

appropriate topics concerning important

safety issues. A very cool experience for the

children was that the Sergeant passed his

real set of handcuffs and a flashlight type

stick around the circle for each child to hold.

In addition, he gave them a tattoo badge to

use for pretend play. The special visit was a

valuable experience for our Bear Cub

JOURNAL WRITING

We have officially started on our weekly activity of writing in our personal journal. We start out writing the letters in our first name. We do this activity as a classroom. The response was positive! Take a moment to see some of the children trying their skills of writing with a pencil.

VALENTINE’S DAY PLANS

We want to give you the “heads up” on the exciting plans for celebrating Valentine’s Day at school on Friday, February 13th. As with all classroom activities, we try to keep in low key. Of course, we will have a special valentine treat at snack time and hand out all valentines. If you wish to send Valentines, either store bought or homemade, please make sure to send one for each of the 20 children in our classroom. To keep things simple, we ask that you or your child sign only the back of the card. Please do not address the envelope to individual children (if you choose to use envelopes). The children will be decorating their shoeboxes in the art center area for the next couple of weeks. We will be gluing colorful hearts, doilies, foil, tissue, stickers, etc. onto the shoebox. We will make an opening in the lid where the children can slip their valentines into their friends’ box. Everyone will leave with a “mailbox’ full of Valentines to enjoy at home

UPCOMING IMPORTANT DATES: FEBRUARY 13TH – VALENTINE’S DAY CELEBRATION
