From Dameon and Leonie, Baron and Baroness of Aneala, to the populace of Aneala, greetings.

It is that time of year, when the heat of the day saps our strength, and our will to venture outside, but, in spite of the weather, we have had several excellent excursions into the sun.

Dragons Bay Newcomers event was well attended, with several newcomers turning up to sample what the SCA has to offer. We expect to see them all in the future.

Baron Columb mac Diarmata was steward for the Persona Tourney at Garvey Park. Eleven fighters donned armour to wish Lord Columb a happy birthday. Each fighter introduced himself and described his armour, and his inspiration to fight. A variety of melee scenarios were then fought for the entertainment of the populace, and assorted on-lookers in the park. Thanks to all participants for an enjoyable day.

A small group of musical enthusiasts enjoyed Ǣfensang - An Evening of the Bardic Arts, at the home of The Honourable Lady Isabel de Annesley. We had an entertaining evening, and the next one will be held on Monday April 10.

Our Arts and Sciences minister, Lady Mery of Ellersley, is running workshops over the next six weeks to help people make personal silk banners. It is not too late to join in if you wish to take part: contact her for details. We hope to have the banners ready in time for May Crown.

Aneala's presence at the Hyde Park Fair on the March long weekend was stewarded and coordinated by Mistress Branwen of Werchesvorde. Five fighters put on armour under very hot conditions on Sunday, dropping to three on Monday, and we thank them all for their heroic efforts, especially Sir Nathan, who fought every set. (The baron excuses himself from the designation “heroic” since he had to pull out in the first show.) We also put on static displays of weaponry, archery and garb, and worked on various A&S projects, including illumination, leatherwork, spinning, music, finger-loop braiding and embroidery. We have several prospective new members and hope to see them at the follow-up tourney at Lake Monger on March 19.

Still to come in the next couple of months, in weather which we hope will be more clement:

Our Arts and Sciences minister, Lady Mery of Ellersley, is running workshops over the next six weeks to help people make personal silk banners. It is not too late to join in if you want to make a banner: contact her for details. We hope to have the banners ready in time for May Crown.

The College of Saint Basil's Newcomers event will be on April 1, with a theme that should be self-evident. The steward will be Lady Isolde van Wilravenssijde.

Rowany Festival over the Easter long weekend, April 13-18. Baroness Leonie will be travelling there, and will be camping with St Florians again this year.

Aneala's Baronial Thirtieth Anniversary event will be held on Saturday and Sunday April 22 and 23, with a feast on Saturday followed by a tourney on Sunday. Details still to come.

In May, the Shire of Abertridwr is hosting May Crown, at the Kerem Adventure Camp, Bullsbrook. Details have been published on Announce, in Pegasus and elsewhere.

Don't forget to recommend worthy people for Kingdom awards in time for May Crown.. We can help with this if you wish, just come and talk to us if you need pointers on what to do. Otherwise, send your recommendations to the King and Queen at [email protected]

Until next timeYours in Service

Dameon and LeonieBaron and Baroness of Aneala
