Bigger,

Wanaka Auto Electrical is bigger, brighter and more accessible following a move to brand new premises on the corner of Frederick Street and Connell Terrace. Owners Tony and Shelley Barrett have owned the business for three years, which is the only solely auto electrical workshop in Wanaka. “We are now more accessible for larger vehicles like trucks, buses and campervans and there is plenty of parking on-and-off site,” Tony

said. As well, a waiting room with luxury seating is a nice place to read a magazine or enjoy a hot drink in comfort while your car is serviced. Wanaka Auto Electrical can repair anything from air conditioning, to start faults, diagnostic faults, lights or windscreen wipers. They also install hands-free phone kits and stereo systems. “People should come straight to us with any auto electrical problems, as we are more equipped

to deal with these sorts of problems. Our staff have a combined 80-years of experience in this trade,” he said. “We also offer a field service where we can come to you to sort out your auto electrical problems”.For your entire auto electrical needs, look no further than Wanaka Auto Electrical. “Our staff are jovial, friendly guys who are always willing to help, no problem is too big or small for them.”

likely to be in place until the end of June. The contractor is currently working on trenching and water pipe renewal but this work will cease at the beginning of the ski season with work set to resume in September once winter is over. Delays of up to 10 minutes should be expected while the work is happening but Council will try and keep these to a minimum. It’s a big job but the result will be a much improved road so thanks for your patience.

Road reportsWant to know what the roads are like before you leave home? Council is loading the road conditions onto our website and Twitter every day. Updates are posted before 7am and give an overview of what roads are like across the whole district.

Wicklow TerraceCouncil is considering revoking the reserve status on a portion of the reserve land in Wicklow Terrace. The area concerned measures 211 sq metres and the land concerned will be vested in the Crown to sell.Submissions are being taken on this matter now and will close on Monday 9 July. You can read more about the issue and how to make a submission online at www.qldc.govt.nz

How do you like your neighbourhood?Council has begun the process of reviewing the District Plan. The plan is at the heart of how this place looks and what you can do in it. It’s about the places where we live, work and play including your particular neighbourhood. Over the next year and a half we’ll be asking for your feedback on the plan before opening formal submissions in October 2013.Around 19 different discussion documents are currently online for you to read and comment on. Brochures on heritage issues and wilding trees have just been put online with more being added every month. Don’t forget you can make a comment on any of the issues raised during the review at any time during the process so if you missed the cut off date for any earlier discussions, you can still send it to us.

Crime LineBy Senior Constable Bruce Mclean

WANAKA

Firstly I would like to welcome all our seasonal visitors to town. I hope you will see it is a lovely town we have here - a community who look out for each other and actually care about where we live.

On Monday, a car lost control in the ice and crashed into a bank, rolling on to it’s side. On Sunday, an Australian travelling north on the Cardrona Valley lost control of his Apex rental car on ice, colliding with a bank. If you think it even might be icy, I can assure you it already is. By driving super slowly you can generally avoid injury if the ice takes you. Be alert!

On Thursday we went to another crash where a 16 year old without a licence crashed and flipped his mother’s car, injuring his sister. Ridiculous behaviour!! We took a historic theft complaint about a grey PVC dive bag containing a 7mm black wetsuit, full length jacket & leggings, snorkel, mask, 2 pairs of dive boots and also a separate theft of fuel, stolen from the Hawea area.

We have received a report of sheep being attacked by a dog or dogs at the same property near Albert Town, on two occasions within one week. Any dogs caught wondering or harassing sheep on this property will be shot. Please keep your dogs locked up over night and know were your dog is at all times.

On Wednesday offenders went to a paddock and stole 3 metres of cut wood in the Cardrona Valley. They left in a Ford van and were arrested, but why would you take someone else’s property and hard work. Lazy!!!

A male was seen digging out a tree from a property on Beacon Point Road and has left it ready to uplift at a later date. The owners were not present. If it’s NOT YOURS, DON’T TAKE IT!!!! It’s great when neighbours are looking out and call us.

Thanks to those who are calling in and reporting suspicious activity it all helps.

If you have any information about the items mentioned or anything else, please call WANAKA POLICE ON (03) 443 7272 OR CRIMESTOPPERS ON 0800 555 111. Stay frosty out there.

THIS MONTH WITH ROTARY

Members of the Wanaka Rotary Club travelled up to Tititea Lodge earlier this month to carry out a weekend working bee. The club has previously raised funds to purchase and install a new generator up at the Lodge, and this time they fixed a new roof on the shed, together with a host of other maintenance tasks in and around the Lodge. The first day’s work was followed by an sumptious dinner, prepared by members of the Club. Tititea Lodge is situated in the East Matukituki Valley, offers outdoor educational programmes, and is managed by a Trust involving Dunstan High School and local enterprise and business leaders.

Kate Murray, Manager Community Networks Wanaka and staff

member Barbara Jungen, try out two petrol weed eaters under the watchful eye of Pastor Wayne Ward while he test runs a Lazyboy recliner. Both items are some of the generous and interesting items donated for the Bi annual Wanaka New Life Church run Garage Sale this Saturday along with live music and activities for the children. A sausage sizzle, cake stall, and other goodies will also be on sale. ‘New Life to Old Treasures’ is an initiative of the church in response to a critical need for cash in 2009 by the Community Networks Wanaka Trust food bank. Over $2000 was raised at the

first sale. As Christians the church understands the importance of caring for the lonely and those in need so is happy to support local initiatives such as the food bank. There has been a great response to the concept of turning your old treasure(not your junk!) into cash to directly benefit the community. Goods include bedding, furniture, appliances, clothing, household goods and even a Dominator garage door opener! The garage sale starts at 9am Saturday 18th in the old Catholic Church building, Brownston Street and runs until 3pm. If you have items to donate contact Wayne Ward on 443 7170.
