The Scout troop in Wanaka is made up of boys and girls aged between 10 and 15. We currently have spaces available for anyone keen to join. Scouts run during school term time, Monday evenings 6pm till 8pm, at the Scout Den, Eely Point. From Spring to Autumn we manage to “go bush” for one weekend each month. Our most recent trip away was a ‘Bear Grylls’ style weekend up the Landsborough Valley. This involved 4x4

driving in, then building our own shelters and cooking without utensils over open fires. The weather was excellent and the camaraderie even better! An awesome time was had by all.

To enable us to continue and develop the fantastic experiences available through Scouts and Cubs, we are fund-raising by collecting and bagging sheep poo. For this great garden fertiliser please contact Barry Andrews on 443 1662.

I’ve just come back from a few weeks of annual leave and I’m like a coiled spring rearing to go.

Looking at the occurrences over the last week I see it’s been pretty good on a whole. I guess we expect that around this time of year when everything is wound down between seasons.

This week we do have the Warbirds over Wanaka to drag a flurry of visitors in for the long Easter Weekend. Warbirds means much heavier traffic flows than normal so practise a little more patience than normal, allow plenty of time to get anywhere and make sure you plan the back roads if you are trying to avoid the congestion.

There was a party in Helwick Street that got a little out of control with vomiting and urinating on the street. It was closed down by the occupants. One underage person was taken home by Police for his safety.

A male was arrested for disorderly behaviour after he took exception to a male’s behaviour and started fighting with a group. Time to grow up kids and keep your fisticuffs to yourself.

A purple mountain bike was taken between 16/3/12 - 23/3/12 from an address at the SH6 end of Aubrey Road.

A drink driver was caught more than 1½ times the legal limit in Hawea. With a town that small why bother driving. It’s just plain lazy!

We wish the Warbirds organisers all the best for the air show and safe flying to all in the sky. Any low flying done on the roads by motorists however will be dealt with in the usual manner with hefty fines and driver licence suspensions. Remember the 4km/h tolerance over the holiday weekend.

This exhibition will be touring around New Zealand and makes its debut this week at the Rippon Hall.
