The Train Tripby Geri Murray

It was a big day. Tim’s friend Nate was coming on a train. Tim made the bed. He asked his sister Jan to help him but she said, “No way!” and painted her nails.

Dad said, “Tim, I’ll take you in the van to get Nate.”

Tim said, “I can’t wait! At last I can play with a boy the same age as me. We can camp and play games.”

It was a long day for Nate. He had a nap as he sat on the train.

Then Nate was awake. The train had stopped. It was in a strange place. Nate was scared.

A man came up to Nate and said, “We will have to wait. We had to brake to fix the rail.”

Nate said, “I will be late. Tim will hate to wait.”

But the man had left. Nate said to himself, “Maybe I can paint as I wait.”

Nate made a pig face on the page. “I will make it say, ‘Slim, Tim’s pet pig.’”

Slim, Tim’s pet pig.

The rail was fixed, and the train got back on its way.

The man came back.

Nate said, “I have a pet in this gray case. My pet is named Jake.”

It was a snake! The man went away fast!

Nate said to his snake, “Tim will make a space for you, Jake. It will be fun to scare Jan. You will make Jan shake and quake!”

At the end of the day, Nate made it at last.

Nate asked Jan, “Want to grab a snake?”

Jan was not afraid!

“Okay,” said Jan, “Nice snake.”
