The Thing on the Path

Lad sits and watches the chicks.

The chicks think Lad is the hen!

The chicks peck at Lad's pan.

Lad just watches this.

The chicks peck on Lad's back.

Lad nips at them.

The chicks walk with Lad on

the path.

Lad runs fast.

The chicks cannot get Lad.

Is Lad mad at the chicks? 

No, Lad wants the thing that

runs on the path.

Stop, Lad!  It is a skunk.

A thick smell drifts. Lad gets a whiff.

Lad runs back.

The chicks get a whiff. 

The chicks watch Lad get a bath.
