Competitor Research
There are no businesses like mine in the area.
Chuck E Cheese’s is a play land for kids with games, food, and an indoor playground area.
– no fee to get in, but they charge for food and to play the arcade games.
– Food prices range from $2.00-$10.00. – Chuck E Cheese’s has been in business for over 10 years.
The Boys and Girls Club is the only other business similar to mine in that they provide a place for students after school where they can study and play games.
– sometimes cater to outside groups and host activities and lock-ins, but they do not turn into a teen party spot.
– Cost= $30.00 per week= $120.00/month
Marketing Plan
Geographic Area:includes all students on the Peninsula if they have a membership or come with a guest.
City & state:in the old Hills Department store building in Newport News, VA because it is central to Williamsburg, Newport News, Hampton, and York County.
Targeted Clientele:all students in middle and high school
Marketing Cont’d
My business is better than the competition because there are no businesses like it for teenagers to have fun on the weekends. We will also have security and ID badges to prevent people from causing disturbances that ruin the fun for others. We will have rules and a strict 3-strikes/no-tolerance policy.I will advertise my business with flyers under windshields at the movies, Chuck E Cheese’s, the skating rink, and at the movies. I will send flyers home with the students from school. I will also take out yellow pages and newspaper advertisements. How often will you advertise? More at the beginning and as needed when business slacks off.
Financial Plan
Start Up Funds $200,000-$300,000
Items needed to set up and carry out your business: $1000 per year for video game equipment$1,000 for advertisementEmployees will be paid minimum wage
Suppliers
I will need a frozen food distributor for the foods- Sysco Foods of Hampton RoadsA beverage distributor- Pepsi Cola Co.A snack vendor- Snack Attack VendingI will need a paper products supplier for napkins, toilet paper, plastic wear, paper towels, cleaning products, etc.-Tidewater Wholesalers Ink.I will need a company to rent video games from- Wometco Amusements
Financial Cont’d
How goods & services will be distributed:
I will distribute my service when students come to my facility.
TroubleshootingWhat could go wrong What I would do
1. People could get into fights 2. Some music nights might be
unpopular-low attendance3. There could be
disagreements over what to watch in the TV theaters
4. People could trash the place-not clean up after themselves
5. Teenage employees could cater to their friends and give away free food.
6. Someone could fall, choke, or get hurt.
1. Fighting immediately causes loss of membership and banning from The Spot
2. Poll the students on what music they like best and play only that music.
3. Take a poll about what people want to watch. Post a schedule on the wall in advance of what will be watched.
4. 3 Strikes and you are out policy. Video cameras will monitor behavior.
5. Fire dishonest employees6. POST ALL RULES- have members sign a
contract, have guest sign a contract upon entering, require school ID for membership and record info onto a guest list, keep a first aid kit on hand, train all managers in first aid
Insurance
Company: All State
Amount: $1,000,000
I chose them because…they have a good reputation and I like their commercials on TV. I would want fire, flood, theft, and liability protection because there will be a lot of expensive equipment in the building.
