Dear Parents and Carers,
We hope you have enjoyed the wonderful sunshine this week, while managing to keep cool.
We have been very busy with children enjoying a range of activities within each of our bubbles.
Our focus has been Sports and Fitness this week, with lots of outdoor PE activities taking place
and plenty of drinks breaks in the shade! We still have a few places remaining in Year 1 and
Year 6. Do get in touch to book your place if you would like your children to attend for the last
few weeks of term.
We now have three key worker and vulnerable children bubbles, which are all full to capacity.
Should you require a place, please get in touch as we may be able to arrange a further bubble
to accommodate your request. When booking places in any of our bubbles, please let us know
if you require a school packed lunch and if your child has any medical needs or allergies.
Please email us at the address below and we will write to confirm your place once our
procedures and checks have been completed: [email protected]
We are now planning for the return of Year 5 children during the last week of term and have
written to parents and carers separately about how to book a place. This will be with our Year 6
teaching team and will mean that our Year 6 cohort will finish week beginning 6th July.
We are currently making arrangements for Year 6 children to come in to collect their leavers’ t-
shirts, folders and gifts. We are planning for this to take place over the next few weeks, with
small groups attending to ensure safety for all. We will write with further detail next week.
Annual Reports
Teachers are in the process of completing children’s annual reports. These will be sent out via
Parentmail this year, as we will not be able to run our regular open afternoon event or send
them home with children in the usual way. Should you prefer to receive your report as a paper
copy, please contact the school office so that arrangements can be made for safe collection.
Reports will contain information about achievement up until the end of the spring term as well
as brief information about children’s remote learning during the period of school closure. Should
you wish to discuss your child’s report with their class teacher, please contact the school office
so that a telephone appointment can be arranged for you.
While we are planning for the return of all children in September, as yet we have not yet
received the government’s guidance and therefore cannot give further detail at this point. As
soon as we are able to, we will of course write with more detailed information.
Burnet News Club
We would like to congratulate Mr Short for his fantastic
work with the Year 6 Burnet News Club. He has been
shortlisted for ‘Outstanding Teacher’ award and Roshan
in 6 Chestnut has received the ‘Outstanding Student’
accolade. What a fantastic achievement!
Wishing you a good weekend,

National School Sport Week 2020
On Tuesday, we did some athletics. We
were learning how to jump over hurdles
with both our feet together. We also
practiced racing from starting positions.
This helped us to user different muscles
in our legs. On the Thursday we played
cricket. We learnt about different batting
skills and how we could change the di-
rection of the ball. An example would be
the hook shot and the defensive shot.

Dear Parents and Carers, SCHOOL MEALS DEBT RECOVERY POLICY The school budget is calculated each year to maximise teaching and learning. However, if debts are incurred, then the school budget has to pay for them. This means that money, which should be spent on teaching and learning, is used to pay for debts incurred by parents. We all agree that this is unacceptable and unfair to the students. Therefore, we request that all parents give this policy their full respect and support. Free School Meals are available to eligible students. If parents believe that their children may qualify for entitlement to Free School Meals, then they should contact the school office for more details. This allowance is a statutory right and it is important that parents who qualify access it; the school administrative staff can help parents with their applications. Parents can check Free School Meal eligibility by applying online at: https://www.merton.gov.uk/education-and-learning/schools/free-school-meals Alternatively, application forms are available from the school office. Due to an increase in the number of school meals that are regularly not being paid for, The Sherwood School has adopted a NO DEBT policy relating to payment of school meals. If debts are not cleared, they would ultimately have to be referred to the Governors Board for debt recovery arrangements to be made. All pupils in the Foundation Stage and Key Stage 1 are entitled to receive Universal Infant Free School Meals. Therefore, this policy relates to pupils in Key Stage 2 (Years 3, 4, 5 and 6) whose parents pay for school meals. As a school, we wish to avoid a situation which allows parents to accrue large amounts of debt for school meals which they then find difficult to clear. School meals must be paid for in advance using any of the methods of payment outlined below:
Online at www.parentpay.com
Pay Point bar code (available from the school office) If a parent genuinely forgets to pay in advance, the school will grant a debt allowance of one week. However, this debt must be paid by the following week and future meals must be paid in advance before any meal is provided. If the debt is not cleared, parents must provide a packed lunch. In a case when a debt payment is not received and a packed lunch not provided, the office will phone the parent to ask them to pay online at Parent Pay or collect a Pay Point barcode or provide a packed lunch before lunchtime. If parents and carers are struggling to make payments, particularly in the current circumstances, we will work with you to arrange a repayment plan. However, should the debt not be cleared within a reasonable time frame, the school reserves the right to inform the Chair of Governors, who may decide to begin formal proceedings. By implementing this policy, we are aiming to help parents limit unmanageable dinner money debts. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us. Kind Regards, The School Finance Team
