SOI SMILE AMAZON UPDATEWhat is AmazonSmile?

AmazonSmile is a website operated by Amazon that lets customers enjoy the same wide selection of products, low prices, and convenient shopping features as on Amazon.com. The difference is that when customers shop on AmazonSmile (smile.amazon.com), the AmazonSmile Foundation will donate 0.5% of the price of eligible purchases to the charitable organizations selected by customers.

The W-E School of Innovation PTO is in the process of setting up their account so amazon shoppers can shop and the 0.5% donation will go to the PTO to support the students of SOI! We have already had over $30 in donations. That doesn’t seem like much, but it is a start, and it is residual earnings that come from purchasing families already are doing!

This is no cost to you, and prices are the same as amazon.com. Please consider this easy way to donate to SOI. ANYONE can sign up and help us!

We are still assessing them bi-weekly. We will start assessing multiplication and division soon too!

DISCOVERY with Mrs. Reed

Our soil study using samples from the Watershed Property is underway! We are using a Growth Experiment and Drainage Experiment as well as observations with our eyes and hands to help identify what type of soil we found. We will use the information from the experiments to write a paragraph making an evidence-based prediction on the type of soil we located. Next week, we will begin to look at the processes of weathering and erosion as we finish our unit on rocks and soil.

LITERACY with Mrs. Rosciszewski

We’ve been working very hard to build a great foundation for writing this quarter. We focused on learning nouns, pronouns, verbs, adjectives, adverbs, and

prepositions and the function of each. We are working on using the parts of speech to write “spicy” sentences and well developed paragraphs. We have also

been using what we learned about character traits and text evidence to support our ideas about the traits of our characters. We’ve also been working on using

context clues to determine the meaning of unknown words. We finished reading Charlotte’s Web this week.
