Six months on from the start of The Rotation, the

difficulty of the task we originally set ourselves is

now apparent.

As many of our members are still in education, the

pressure to take a fantastic photo every week or

so is taking its toll. The order in which we proceed

has changed several times to ease the stress, and

Ethan Cooper joined the fold.

This isn’t to say the pleasure has gone. We love

the project as much as on the first day; finding the

hours is the problem.

Before writing this, I looked back on the first book

and the images to be included in this edition. I can

not help but feel pride and envy as I do this, the

rate at which this project has improved everyones’

skills and knowledge is incredible. I hope others

think this about my own photographic exploration.

A love of photography and the visual arts is the

spark that brought the group together. I will be

eternally thankful that it did, during a difficult few

months knowing I had to go out shooting gave me

something to aim for.

I have known several of these peculiar individuals

for years and I never cease being amazed by what

they create.

Over the last year I’ve noticed many more people

taking up photography as a hobby, this has also

led to books being released which have lost the

fun and soul of the pursuit.

Certain books seem to select photographs for

printing that will have the mass market appeal

needed to make a profit, the way of the world

I suppose. This to me, seems to go against the

ethos of photography. Photography to many is an

escape, a way of expressing oneself.

We are not producing these issues to make

money. The images in the books are true to their

individual creators. This is the beauty of this book,

the distribution of photographs without prejudice.

The inner thoughts and views of the

photographers, without censorship.

THE ROTATORS

Benjamin Bacon

Stijn Benoot

The Rotation is a roster of photographers from

all over the world, taking turns contributing their

own personal twist on the classic daily photograph

project.

Arranged by date it documents the passage of

time through frozen moments of each day across

the globe.

Ethan Cooper

Not only are they making endless art for everyone

to enjoy, they're continuously supporting,

competing with, and inspiring one another with

each and every day's worth of new pixels.

It's a project similar to, and unlike what you've

seen before.

7THE NEW GUY

When Nick offered me the chance to join The

Rotation I had to jump at it. You look at all these

other guys and the improvements they had made

in just a few months. I wanted that. The group had

been helping me in the previous months when I

first started taking photographs and I felt joining

would help me to evolve as a photographer in the

way I think and see the world.

The lads obviously saw something in me and even

though I still don't know what that is, I feel like part

of the family.

I really like to see my friends improve. Watching

these guys get better only makes striving to

improve a goal. This inspires me to get out, try

different things and leave my comfort zone. In

fact, a lot of these guys influence me and don't

know it.

Since joining, I believe I have improved. I tend to

look at things and think differently and although

I still have trouble making the camera see how I

see, I'll continue until I get it.

Where The Rotation will take us all I have no

idea but I do know we have all been improving

together and inspiring each other. I like that about

The Rotation and am honoured to be a part of it.
