From the Desk of Dallas S. Bunton, Sr. IFCCE, MCE; Chairman & CEO NACS and Medical Services of Chattanooga October has been a very in- teresting month. A couple weeks ago, I was approached by one of our employees regarding a religious topic of conversation. Some of the questions in- cluded: Christian leadership here at the company, successes and challenges, and trusting in people to do what is expected while in the spotlight or even in the shadows. I was also recently asked what has driven me to success and my ability to reach goals as well as follow my dreams in life and here at NACS. Wow, what a series of questions to really ponder prior to responding to such sincere inquiries! Well, when you start as young as I did dropping out of school at the age of 16 with just 37 cents in my pocket and dreams which I couldn‘t even begin to explain because they possibly did not fit my profile, I suppose it was a fair series of questions. So how do I, as a Christian businessman and leader of NACS, credit my success? As we mature we need to have goals and focus. I have listed mine for you in this message, keeping in mind that these may not work for you exactly as they did for me. Nonetheless, they have and continue to work for me. I have waivered at times, yet seem to be drawn back to these core prin- ciples that were probably started with my grand- mother and great-grandmother as follows: 1.) I met Beverly, fell in love at first sight, and imme- diately stated that she was and would be the Queen of my life. I still feel the same way today. 2) To have children and build for them a home safe, secure, and clean, for my family to enjoy together with one another. To raise our children to know Jesus Christ and have the opportunity to know, understand, and choose to believe as I was given. This is and will always be a choice. 4.) To overcome all childhood obstacles that haunted me and overshadowed attempts that would propel me into a new person leaving old baggage in the past. 5.) To provide a quality of life for Beverly and my kids that would be far beyond what I had experienced. My dreams were always big to the point of disbelief for most. 6.) To work always, and to always put my family over myself. I have always had a job since I was 17. Even today my family is first (though I am enjoying self-time more). 7.) Finally, to remember the Sabbath which keeps me from ever forgetting Christ and God the Creator of Heaven and Earth. I always pay tithe, and it keeps me from forgetting that all I am and have is a gift from God a gift that I cannot repay. I cannot out give God. These are my seven simple goals that I have always carried in my heart. Perfect? No. Maybe the best? For me, yes, but again, these are my goals and dreams and determinations that enable me to be who I am. I would like to encourage you to take a moment to sit down and ask yourself the same that was asked of me… basically, what makes me tick? What do I really want out of life? What do I want to give back in this life? Ask yourself these questions, and my hope is that NACS would be and is a stepping stone to make this happen. Kelly Barlew Early Out, Employee of the Month

October has been a very in-

teresting month. A couple weeks ago, I was approached

by one of our employees regarding a religious topic of conversation. Some of the questions in-cluded: Christian leadership here at the company, successes and challenges, and trusting in people to do what is expected while in the spotlight or even in the shadows. I was also recently asked what has driven me to success and my ability to reach goals as well as follow my dreams in life and here at NACS. Wow, what a series of questions to really ponder prior to responding to such sincere inquiries!

Well, when you start as young as I did – dropping out of school at the age of 16 with just 37 cents in my pocket and dreams which I couldn‘t even begin to explain because they possibly did not fit my profile, I suppose it was a fair series of questions. So how do I, as a Christian businessman and leader of NACS, credit my success? As we mature we need to have goals and focus. I have listed mine for you in this message, keeping in mind that these may not work for you exactly as they did for me. Nonetheless, they have and continue to work for me. Global & Division Updates

Following a recent conference call with one of our physician group clients, the practice managers praised Kyle Evans (shown in photo on right). She said he has a tremendous wealth of system knowledge and always assists them with any issues or questions they have. The manager went on to sate she had given

everyone his name and says ―if you have a problem, call Kyle he can fix it.‖ Great Job Kyle!

MS BT employees participated in seasonal fun with a creative pumpkin contest. The winners as shown in the photo on right were:

1st prize — Leslie Delgado Williams for her entry ―Gourd Trooper.‖ 2nd prize — Mireya Sacrapal for her ―Baby Boo‖ submission.

3rd prize — Shelly Bible for ―Klutz the Clown.‖

I Am Thankful for … “Hot Dogs”

In everything give thanks — I Thessalonians 5:18

The wife who says it‘s hot dogs tonight because she is home with me and not out with someone else. The husband who is on the sofa being a couch potato because he is home with me and not out at the bars. The teenager who is complaining about doing dishes because it means they are at home, not out on the

streets. The taxes I pay because it means I am employed.

The mess to clean after a party because it means I have been surrounded by friends. The clothes that fit a little to snugly because I have enough to eat. My shadow that watches me work because it means I am out of the sunshine and for a lawn that needs mowing, windows that need cleaning and gutters that need fixing because it means I have a house. All the complaining I hear about the government because it means we have freedom of speech. The parking spot I find at the far end of the parking lot because it means I am capable of walking and have been blessed with transportation. My huge cooling bill because it means I am comfortable. The lady behind me in church who sings off key because it means I can hear. The pile of laundry and ironing because it means I have clothes to wear. Weariness and aching muscles at the end of the day because it means I have been capable of working hard. The alarm that goes off in the early morning hours because it means I am alive.

Employees greatly influence the emotion and attitude of the workplace. The first step in reducing negativity is to take a long,

hard look at your own leadership and communication behaviors. In the face of challenges, we need to be realistic but optimis-tic. If problems arise, they should be empathic but solution-driven. When faced with challenges, we must establish clear expec-tations and see that they are being met. In short, when it comes to curing a negativity infection, the most powerful medicine is an effective employee that can remove themselves from a problem-solving situation. Together we can achieve our dreams.
