The Parishes of
Fr. Phil’s article continued on Page 3
Thank You
I’d like to begin this year by offering my thanks. Many
thanks to all of our volunteers who continued to organize
the many good things that we do to help our community.
Thank you to all those who contributed and donated
toward these causes as well as for your continued
support for our parishes. Thank you to all those that
were directly involved in preparing our churches for
Christmas, whether it was on the grounds itself or for/
during the liturgies. Thank you for those who have
cleaned, sanitized, and disinfected the churches
throughout this pandemic. Thank you for all others who
labor behind the scenes for the glory of God. Your efforts
help people find Jesus.
Thank you to all those who have sent or left me
Christmas cards and gifts. I am thankful for all of you,
and I pray this year will be filled with an abundance of the
Father’s blessings as we begin 2021.
Epiphany Water Blessing
Just another reminder that after Holy Mass this Tuesday,
January 5th, a special blessing will take place for a
sacramental known as Epiphany Water. The solemn rite
includes various devotional prayers and specific prayers
offered by the priest to cast out evil. This sacramental is
quite powerful as it receives a two-fold prayer of
exorcism. The rite itself will be about forty-five minutes.
People are encouraged to bring their own large
containers filled with water (preferably one gallon or more
unless you are unable to carry that). Also, be sure to
bring salt as that will receive special prayers as well.
Make sure you clearly label all containers of water and
salt that you bring so that you would be able to take it
home with you. Every single container of water will be
individually blessed.
If you are unable to attend but would like to have
Epiphany Water, drop off your large containers of water to
the parish office no later than Monday, January 4
th
so that

Beware of Scammers
They exist and will ask you for help, gift cards,
and a whole lot of other things. They will pose

like a legitimate need. If it is vague, ignore
them. Thank you.
Duty as Citizens
Paragraphs 2239-40 from the Catechism of the
Catholic Church highlights the duties that
citizens have to the good of society. For the
sake of the common good, each citizen is
morally obliged “to pay taxes, to exercise the
right to vote, and to defend one’s country.”
When we vote, we expect that our individual
voices are heard and given a fair share among
other voters. We expect that the process of
tabulating votes will be honest and done with
integrity. When evidence presents itself to the
contrary, it is something that we cannot simply
let slide, no matter what the outcome. There is
a compilation of election irregularities in a
document known as The Navarro Report. It can
be downloaded from the following URL:
https://www.scribd.com/document/488495896/
Navarro-Report From the report’s executive
summary: “Evidence used to conduct this
assessment includes more than 50 lawsuits
and judicial rulings, thousands of affidavits and
declarations, testimony in a variety of state
venues, published analyses by think tanks and
legal centers, videos and photos, public
comments, and extensive press coverage.” It is
quite extensive in it’s compilation of evidence.
This is about election integrity, not partisan
politics. There is something each of us can
do to see that our legislators guarantee the
integrity of the election. The following URL
will help you send an e-mail or a tweet

Senator Gary Peters, and Representative
Paul Mitchell III: https://votervoice.net/

EVERYDAY STEWARDSHIP -
RECOGNIZE GOD IN YOUR ORDINARY
MOMENTS
Wise Men See God in the Simple Things.
If you’re on social media, you have probably seen a
meme going around that features this quote: “God has a
plan for your life. The enemy has a plan for your life.
Be ready for both. Just be wise enough to know which
one to battle and which one to embrace.”
There were certainly two competing plans for the Magi:
God’s and Herod’s. And, wise as they supposedly were,
it wasn’t entirely easy for the Magi to discern which
was which.
After all, Herod posed as a friend. He offered the Magi
hospitality and kindness. Though the Gospel doesn’t
say so, he probably flattered them and appealed to
every moral weakness he could observe in them. In his
palace, they must have felt great physical comfort —
rest and tables of plenty on what was an otherwise long
and treacherous journey.
But if the Magi were honest with themselves, I’ll bet
they would have admitted that, regardless of Herod’s
charm, they felt a gnawing sense of doubt while in his
presence. When they looked upon the Christ Child,
born in a stable without any of the comforts of the
world or protections of wealth, they probably felt the
opposite. They probably felt safe.
The Magi were lucky enough to have the right plan
spelled out for them in a dream, but for the rest of us,
it’s enough to remember this: God’s plan is often the
one that leads us to places of great simplicity, great
humility and great love. Let’s have the wisdom to view
power with suspicion, and innocence with admiration.

The Epiphany of the Lord
Today, in St. Matthew’s Gospel, the
evangelist retells the story of the
Magi visiting the Christ-child, the
newborn King. In this initial meet-
ing, they are overwhelmed, and in
response, venerate our Lord by
prostrating themselves, face down.
The Magi open their treasures and
offer Jesus gold, frankincense, and
myrrh. These gifts foreshadow
Christ’s royalty, divinity, and suffer-
ing. The Scripture passages from
Isaiah and St. Paul further convey
that the Good News of salvation is
to be proclaimed to all people. Do
we, as faithful stewards strive to
follow the Magi’s example of offering
adoration, praise, and glory to God?
Do we, in thanksgiving, embrace the
Good News, deepening our person-
al relationship in Christ? Then, in
turn, spread His joy, peace, and
message of hope and salvation to
all those we meet? To help you en-
counter Christ, plan to attend an
evangelization event offered at your
parish.

COVID-19 UPDATE
WHY ARE THE WINDOWS OPEN IN CHURCH?
In order to stop the spread of COVID-19, the CDC
recommends that indoor environments have increased
airflow in occupied spaces whenever possible. With that, the
church windows are being opened slightly, as well as one of
the outdoor entrances. In addition, the fans are being kept on
low. Even though the windows are open and the fans are on,
the heat is also on maintaining a relatively comfortable room
temperature. If sitting by an open window is undesirable,
please sit in a seat that is more comfortable; please do not
shut the windows.
The worship space, restrooms, gathering space, and
sacristies are disinfected after each Mass celebrated here at
Holy Family.
These and other protocols are in place to minimize the
spread of COVID-19 and to allow us to continue to hold
public Masses.
WHAT ROLE CAN YOU PLAY TO HELP MINIMIZE
THE SPREAD OF COVID 19 AT CHURCH?
To help minimize the spread of COVID 19, it is asked that
you participate in these practices:
• Stay home if you are sick. If you are not feeling well,
have a cough, or are experiencing any symptoms of
COVID, please refrain from attending Mass in person
and watch Mass online or on television.
• Wear a mask. Please put on your mask prior to entering
the church building and keep it on.
• Sanitize your hands. Sanitize your hands at the Hand
Sanitizing stations as you enter the building.
• Practice social distancing. Be mindful of proper social
distancing when choosing a seat and when going up to
receive Communion.
The Knights of Columbus will be praying
the Rosary on Saturday, January 9, 2021
at the flag pole in front of Holy Family
(weather permitting). The Rosary will
begin precisely at 12 noon. If the
weather is bad, the Rosary will be prayed
in the Life Center’s gathering space.
Join us as we pray for our country, our
Church and for the intentions of the
Knights of Columbus.
Blessed Mother invites us to pray, pray,
pray as she has shared in numerous
visitations. Number three of the 15
promises of the Rosary is, “The Rosary shall be a powerful
armor against hell, it will destroy vice, decrease sin, and
defeat heresies.”
http://themostholyrosary.com/15promises.htm).
The rosary has worked miracles and is a powerful tool
against the unrest and the evils in the world. Continue to
pray the Rosary, every day, until we meet together at the
Flag Pole.
See you there!

10 Tips: Cut Back on Your Family’s Sweet Treats
Limit the amount of food and beverages with added
sugar your family eats and drinks. If you don’t buy them,
your family won’t get them very often. Sweet treats and
sugary drinks have a lot of calories and few nutrients.
Most added sugars come from soda, sports drinks,
energy drinks, juice, cakes, cookies, ice cream, candy,
and other desserts.
1. Serve small portions A small number of treats can
go a long way. Use smaller bowls and plates for these
foods and share a candy bar or split a large cupcake.
2. Sip smarter. Offer water instead of sugary drinks.
3. Choose not to offer sweets as rewards Reward
your family with kind words and comforting hugs, or give
non-food items to make them feel special.
4. Make fruit the everyday
dessert Serve baked apples, pears,
fruit salad or frozen juice bars
(100% juice) instead of high-calorie
desserts.
Make food fun. Make nutritious foods fun by preparing
them with your family and being creative together.
Create smiley faces with sliced bananas and raisins.
Cut fruit into fun easy shapes with cookie cutters.

the Cardinal Mooney Catholic community?
Acceptance letters will be going out at the end of January.

still time for them to be a part of the Class of 2024.
In considering Cardinal Mooney Catholic, you are
considering a high school of distinction. In doing so, you
have joined the ranks of students who have earned
scholarships to very prestigious colleges and universities
across the country. You have opened the doors not only
to great academics, but participation in championship
athletics, a nationally recognized art program, social
enrichment, National finalist First Robotics program, State
finalist Mock Trial, and so much more. Most importantly,
attending Cardinal Mooney will place you in a wonderful
faith-filled and family environment!

We look forward to hearing from you!
Christmas music has already been playing for a
couple of months and for the most part, it tends to be
the same songs we’ve all known growing up. One
song that has stood the test of time has been “The
Twelve Days of Christmas.” Whether it be on the
radio, in advertisements, or as parodies, the song has
been a familiar tune since 1780. However, according
to Smithsonian Magazine, it is believed to be much
older with a possible French history.
Even though the origins may be a mystery, one
thing always remains the same; twelve extravagant
gifts are given during the Christmas season.
Jumping ahead to the craziness of 2020, these
original gifts just don’t seem very practical or relatable
anymore. It goes without saying that 2020 has
definitely made its mark in history, so the sixth
graders helped me to develop a song that we found
to be a little more fitting with the many “gifts” we’ve
been given this year...Enjoy!
“On the twelfth day of Christmas, 2020 gave to me...
 Twelve online meetings
 Eleven pumps of soap
 Ten different movies
 Nine pizza boxes
 Eight packages delivered
 Seven pairs of sweatpants
 Six months stuck inside
 Five bags of chips
 Four hour naps
 Three daily prayers
 Two rubber gloves and
One toilet paper roll on the shelf!”
May you all have a very Merry Christmas and health,
happiness, and blessings in this New Year!
