PARISH LIFE
“The Church draws her life from the Eucharist. This truth does not simply express a daily experience of faith, but recapitulates the heart of the mystery of the Church.” (St. John Paul - On the Eucharist & Its Relationship to the Church). At the parish of St. Theresa, we strive to embody these words that describe the centrality of the Eucharist for the life and mission of the Church.
We welcome you to join us as we gather to celebrate our faith and worship God. Whatever your present status in the Catholic Church, whatever your current family or marital situation, whatever your past or present religious affiliation, whatever your personal history, age, background, or race, you are a Child of God and you are welcomed, accepted, loved, and respected at the Church of St. Theresa.

Twenty-First Sunday in Ordinary Time

Please remember in your prayers all those members of our parish family and our friends who continuously suffer physically, emotionally and/or spiritually and those who tirelessly care for them. Let us especially remember those currently in need of our prayers: Fr. Mick Lambeth, Esther Berdini, Frank Boris, Kim Carroll, Rachel Carroll, Kim Coyle, Johnny Favro, Emma Fernandez-Regan, Cecilia Garbaravage, Joe Ghigzone, Gregory Gioe III, Jeff Green, Cheryl Kalinowski, Evelyn Kelly, Nelida Kuhlman, Joyce Lynch, Nancy McCarten, Peter Mills, Rev. William Modlin, John Moore, Owen Noble, Patricia Punzo, Thomas Punzo, Andrew Joseph Ragusa, Tracy Robinson, Michelle Scott, Thomas Smith, Matthew Steinmetz, Elliot Truex, Sean William, John Williamson, Sharon Williamson & Mary Ann VanOstendorp.
We extend our prayers and sympathy to the family and friends of Barbara Santo. May she find eternal rest in peace with God our Father.
Please remember in your prayers all those members of our parish family and our friends who are currently deployed especially: Master Sgt. Jordan Bieda, Airman Steven Brown, Boatswain Gabrielle Fest, Airman Staff Sgt. Frank J. Kowalewski, Jr., Lt. Amanda Keller, Lt. Jennifer LaFalace, Pvt. Anthony Mackiewicz, Jr., Staff Sgt. Michael Novelli, Staff Sgt. Nicholas Okoszko, Spec. Jeffrey Peterson Jr., Cpl. Matthew Volko, Lt. Christopher J. Worosz, USN, Lt. Matthew A. Worosz, USN. May the Lord protect them as they protect us.
Lord of Harvest, we petition you as you have instructed us to ask for more laborers to serve in the vineyard of Your Church. You have told us that
the harvest is rich and laborers are few, and we experience this great need in the face of the challenge of the New Evangelization. We ask the Holy Spirit to inspire young men to seriously consider vocations to the priesthood. Help all of us to be effective instruments to encourage and support those whom you are calling to serve and lead in the Church in the future. Lord, you told your Apostles to put out into the deep. We ask for the grace and courage to accept your call as we pray and work for an increase in vocations to the priesthood. We ask this in the Name of Jesus Christ, the Great High Priest, Amen. THE SACRAMENT OF BAPTISM: Baptisms are held the 1st and 3rd Sunday of each month at 1:00 PM. Arrangements must be made in person at the Parish Office at least 2 months in advance. Parents and Godparents are required to attend a Baptismal Prep Class. THE SACRAMENT OF MARRIAGE: Arrangements must be made at least 1 year in advance. Preparations include sessions with a member of the clergy and attendance at a Pre-Cana Conference. For more information, please call the Parish Office.
THE SACRAMENT OF THE SICK: The Catechism of the Catholic Church tells us there is no need to wait until a person is at the point of death to receive the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick. A careful judgment about the serious nature of an illness is sufficient. “Hence, as soon as anyone of the faithful begins to be in danger of death from sickness or old age, the fitting time for him to receive this sacrament has certainly already arrived."130 We welcome anyone who has a physical condition, is anticipating entering the hospital for surgery or tests, or under any emotional distress to avail themselves of this beautiful Sacrament. Please call the Parish Office to schedule the Sacrament with a priest. Please do not wait until the very last minute to call.

HEALTH “TIP” OF THE MONTH
Backpack Basics Picking the wrong backpack might injure your child. Some symptoms of backpack injury you should look for are complaints of soreness or pain in the shoulders, lower back and neck or tingling in the fingers.
When picking the best backpack for your child, you should follow some simple criteria:
Choose the right size - it should never hang lower than your child’s hips.
Don’t overload it - never carry more than 15%
of your child’s weight.
Watch the straps - straps should be snug and worn on both shoulders and the waist strap
should always be used.
Check for lumbar support - padding in the back of the pack transfers the weight from shoulders
to the lower back which will reduce strain.

TWENTY-FIRST SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
First Reading: Joshua 24:1-2a, 15-17, 18b Joshua gathered all the tribes of Israel and told them if it did not please them to serve God, then they must decide who they would serve. The people claimed that God had brought them out of slavery and protected them on their journey. Therefore, they would serve the Lord their God and no one else.
Second Reading: Ephesians 5:21-32 or 5:2a, 25-32 Husbands and wives should love one another as Christ loved the Church. They should nourish and care for each other as Christ cared for the Church. Through the union between the two, they become one.
Gospel: John 6:60-69 Many of Jesus' followers were still disturbed by his teaching of the living bread, which they could not yet fully understand. Jesus explained that the Spirit gives life, and flesh is unimportant. Some of the disciples decided to leave. Jesus asked if the Twelve also wanted to leave. Although they do not completely understand yet, they have enough faith in Jesus to stay because they believe he is God's holy one.
Consider & Reflect “When they stood in ranks before God, Joshua addressed all the people. ‘If it does not please you to serve the Lord, decide today who you will serve, the gods your fathers served beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites in whose country you are now dwelling. As for me and my household, we will serve the Lord.’ ...Many of the disciples who were listening said, ‘This is a hard saying, who can accept it?’” Joshua, the successor of Moses, challenged the people. How often in the scriptures we come to moments of great decision. Mary was asked to be the Mother of God. She said yes. Peter and the apostles were summoned to leave the fishing industry and tax collectors booth. Saints and Martyrs throughout the ages, made their heroic decisions. Missionaries traveled to bring the gospel to others. Now it is my turn. Surely, as the hymn says, ‘We have decided to follow Jesus.’ But do we only when it is convenient? In moments of stress, or at the time to make a moral decision, what wins, convenience and ease or witness and commitment? Maybe we should begin by realizing that the Christian life is a challenge, supported by God’s gift of grace, allowing us to make a firm decision to improve. The Christian life is not to be a life of comfort, but it is comforting to know that Jesus Christ supports my decision to follow.

From Fr. Mick
My Dear Brothers and Sisters,
A couple of weeks ago Fr. John announced that I would be on a temporary leave from the Parish.
My Medical Team is comprised of great Doctors and associates. I have complete trust in their ability and care for me. They discovered a problem with my left kidney that will require surgery. This surgery should occur during the first two weeks of September. The Doctors and I feel very confident that the preparation and surgery will be successful and completely eliminate any problem with my kidneys.
I miss you all so very much but I certainly feel your love and support. I would like to thank you for all the “Get Well” cards and Mass intentions. I ask you to please keep my Medical Team and me in your prayers, just as all of you are always in mine.
Your brother in Christ Fr. Mick
